I had to stop recording just now because I'm stuck on Step 3! lol
I don't know where to find the THB_C header on the PCIe Hub's motherboard.
Can you help??? lol
Sorry for the delay! I'm in-between moving houses right now, so I'll do the video soon as I settle in :-)
Just wanted to drop a quick line to let you know I'm still here and haven't forgotten about you guys ;-)
Thank you!!! So, I'll purchase everything this week:
"IT-GO" PCI-e x16 Riser (QTY: 1)
12V/2A Power Adapter (QTY: 1)
Mini DP to Mini Cable (QTY: 2)
GC-Alpine Ridge (QTY: 1)
And when I receive it all (in a few weeks), I'll make that video and post it! :-D
Then I definitely didn't have the right one in the Amazon link I referenced (which is why I thought I needed two).
I found this one on Amazon (but it's "currently unavailable"): https://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-Thunderbolt-Components-GC-ALPINE-RIDGE/dp/B0722SV69N/
Do you have a purchase link...
Thank you so much! You said "QTY: 1" for the GC-Alpine Ridge cards (is this it?)... I wouldn't need QTY: 2 of them to connect my 2 USB-C Monitors?
Noted... I'll see if I can borrow my dad's metal file to make those adjustments :-) Thank you!
Okay, so here's the list of everything I need to get:
"IT-GO" PCI-e x16 Riser (QTY: 1)
12V/2A Power Adapter (QTY: 1)
Mini DP to DP Cable (QTY: 2)
USB 3.1 Dual Port USB-C PCI Express (w/Alternate-Mode) (UPD2018) (QTY: 2)
Am I missing anything? If that's it, I'll purchase it all per your...
Any of these more preferable over another:

Please post pictures!!! And links to purchase everything you used to get it working :-D A video would be nice too, to demonstrate how to set it up step by step ;-) I'm desperate! (and serious lol)
Looking forward to your reply!
Noted :-) thank you for all your insight! For those who may deem it helpful, I will return with an answer regarding the decision to try the setup previously suggested or just get new monitors that will work out-the-box with my laptop.
There's a lot of truth to what you're saying... thank you for opening my eyes to the reality of this set up. I will go and do my research to find out which would be best at this point (go forward with the workaround or buy a different set of portable/mobile monitors instead) and get back to you...
So then all I need is:
2 Sunix UPD2018
1 IT-GO "ADP-099-31"
?
I'm so glad you know what you're doing! lol thanks for all the advice :-) I'll definitely be asking how to set all this up when it's delivered! lol (or is it pretty straight forward?) Maybe I'll make a video like karatekid430 did...
Okay... so I think I'll go to Amazon.com and find all items needed to work both monitors (just in case it works I wouldn't have to wait for another set to ship, and if it doesn't work I'll just return it all together):
2 Sunix UPD2018
1 Molex Y Adapter
1 IT-GO "ADP-099-31"
Is that your...
joevt You are a Godsend! Thank you so much for breaking all that down for me to understand so simply :-)
Please correct me if I'm wrong: I'll order the "Sunix UPD2018" with the "OKGEAR PA-AD-UL 12V AC/DC Power adapter w/ 4pin molex connector" ?
And once I learn how to set everything up with my...
You are correct in that the USB-C ports in my laptop do not support DP Alt-Mode... I was speaking in terms of: if I ever got an adapter to convert the signal, then it still would only display to ONE of those monitors at a time (I was told with any USB-C DisplayPort that even if you had multiple...
That was a really simple explanation and I'm really appreciative of it!
So... I have 2 ASUS MB169C+ monitors... and it's my understanding (from previous posts in this thread) that even if I hooked both of them up to the 2 USB-C ports in the laptop, it would only output the display signal to one...
Thank you for that correction... you are indeed not the one who posted the video lol my mistake!
However, I'm really interested in your USB-C to VGA adapter setup since you said it works for you... will it work for me too? :-D (I'm hopeful lol)
If not, I'll keep my eyes on this thread to see...
I can confirm the laptop I have has 2 USB-C ports (that do not support DP Alt-Mode), and 3 USB-A ports (plus the other ones you mentioned). So the method definitely is not redundant! lol And thanks for the YouTube video, that was very informative :-)
The upside is: I still have the ASUS USB-C...
This is GREAT news! lol And I would happily try this out :-D
Only thing is... I recently received the new laptop I was going to get and need to know if the new one would still work with what you have suggested. This is the new laptop I got last week: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B06VY7R17M/
karatekid430 Thank you so much for the update! That was a lot to take in... hmmmmmm... so what you're saying is (please correct me if I'm wrong... which I very-well may be lol):
The Sunix UPD2018 does not work very well by itself with the ASUS USB-C monitor (assumed from your point #1).
It...
allenpan I don't have a heatwave (never heard of it actually)... but yes, agreed (sorry, new to this forum-style messaging)... how would I PM you? If you can PM me, I can just reply to that and I won't have to post again in this main thread (sorry everyone else).
allenpan That's wonderful! I'm glad you've been able to have success selling them.
In your listings (http://www.ebay.com/sch/allenpan84/m.html), it's empty... so, how would I go about trading you for the monitor you know you have in stock and possibly buying from you a second monitor if you...
allenpan I'm so appreciative of your patience... I suppose I didn't get what you were trying to say, until now (I get it lol).
That is excellent advice, now that I understand what you mean! Okay, it's all coming together for me now :-D lol
So yes, I will be willing to trade 1 of my USB-C...
allenpan Ohhhhhhhhh.... now that's a problem! Thank you for pointing that out.
The whole point in me getting TWO monitors was to work as two external displays for my laptop so that I'd have three screens to work with in total. That changes EVERYTHING if I can't use two USB-C monitors...
...or continue to wait for some solution that would make the monitors compatible with my laptop lol whichever of the the following comes first, I'll go with:
Trade two monitors
- OR -
Compatibility solution with current laptop
- OR -
Money for the other laptop
In regards to #2 on that list...
allenpan My only reason for switching laptops was for the monitors... so if you do have 2 to trade, then I wouldn't need to get the other laptop :-) But if you only have 1, then I'll move forward with getting the other laptop (when I get the money lol) that would work with both monitors.
allenpan Okay, I'll keep an eye out for your warehouse update! Thank you :-D
The last bullet-point in the product description at the top of the page reads:
Full-size Backlit Keyboard with Numeric Pad; HP Imagepad; Ports: 1 USB 3.0 Type C; 2 USB 3.0 Type A; 1 HDMI; 1 headphone/microphone combo...
allenpan But my laptop does have a USB-C port (it just doesn't support DP-AltMode lol): https://www.dropbox.com/s/7z17hw1n1ydxozd/2017-06-06%2009.51.52.jpg?dl=0 (it's the port to the right of the media card reader).
But I would LOVE to trade monitors with you in an effort to forego all the...
allenpan Thank you for the explanation!
This is the laptop I got here: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N905A4R/
It has a lightning bolt over the USB-A connector, but not the USB-C port... does that mean the TB3 connection won't work for me? If not, do you think karatekid430's setup will...
allenpan Lol, well I'm really glad you decided to respond now with this confirmation :-) Would you be able to tell me how to integrate this "TB3" with the monitors and my laptop? To be honest, I don't even know what a TB3 is (my background is frontend web development, so when it comes to...
allenpan You've been holding out on us all this time? lol this is GREAT to hear, because I never sent those monitors back lol I figured sometime (hopefully in the near future), there would be some workaround to connect them to my laptop :-D So karatekid430's setup will work? Can you guys...
karatekid430 I am THRILLED to hear what you just shared! I did the same thing (created an account on this forum just to ask the question/contribute to this thread). I will be standing by to receive your update once you receive the Sunix UPD2018 host card :-D Please don't forget to come back to...
allenpan Did you ever find a solution for this? I have the same monitors... however, I do have a USB-C port on my laptop (but it doesn't support DisplayPort Alt Mode lol)... any suggestions? or should I just return the monitors?
