    Win 11 pro's? con's? opinions?

You do pretty quickly get used to it in the center, too. FWIW, I'm ultimately finding it more useful (once I got used to it) - after all, when you decide you need to hit an app or open the taskbar, you never really know where your mouse is on the screen. If you were doing something on the...

    V-Sync and GPU Temps

"Enabling triple buffering" makes it about input lag. Sure, enabling v-sync broadly creates input lag. Enabling triple buffering will make the input lag worse, though. Sort of. Well...it does, just the question is whether that cure is worse than the disease of input lag (it usually is - IE...

    V-Sync and GPU Temps

Well, triple buffering is an OpenGL-only setting, so...anything that uses DirectX, Vulkan, etc won't see any impact. Of course, that also means you are effectively forcing the card to render 3 frames out, so... ...not great if you are shooting for lowest-latency responsiveness to user inputs...

Tim Cook Worried About Apple Devices Used for ‘Endless Scrolling’

Mining GPU usage % for AMD & Nvidia cards

Eh, it's more how nVidia or AMD *report* their usage to Windows. You can get the true AMD numbers in Windows Task Manager easily enough - on the 'Performance' tab, choose your GPU section. You'll get four graph windows - pick one of them and click the drop-down to choose what it is displaying...

    Dune Games in 2020

*shrugs* TBH, I don't really see the point of digital board games being AS popular as they are, beyond making it a ton easier to learn the rules for some of the more complex physical versions. Not sure I'd have ever gotten into Scythe if not for the (rather excellent) digital adaptation, for...

    Dune Games in 2020

Well....?there are some hella amazing boardgames for it? The original Avalon Hill 'Dune' from the 80s was reprinted recently-ish by Gale Force 9, who are doing a 'lite' version ?next year? specifically streamlining rules and using art/etc from the Villeneuve movie. I wouldn't be especially...

Modifying older drivers to support newer video card releases?

On a hunch - wondered if just the OpenCL components of the older driver might be the issue, so copied the 5 OpenCL files from the 21.3.2 driver into the newer driver folder. Felt like a long shot - installs fine, but F @ H is all: *********************** Log Started 2021-10-18T19:41:08Z...

Modifying older drivers to support newer video card releases?

So as an update...the special boot option 'Disable driver signing enforcement' did the trick, and allowed me to install the modified drivers. Unfortunately...they do not work. Windows seems to think they are okay, no errors reported, just...no desktop, the display keeps switching on and off...

Modifying older drivers to support newer video card releases?

Hmmm - promising start, as I was able to find much of that and work with it. Having the card in the newer drivers works a treat in giving me sections to verify after copy over. Obviously have to bypass the non-WHQL message, but still - an error I haven't seen before. "The hash for the file is...

Looking for recommendation for 64gb DDR4-2666

As an update: that Kingston tip did the trick. Ultimately went with a slight variant kit, owing to finding it for hella cheap on eBay, with: https://www.kingston.com/dataSheets/HX426C16FB3K4_64.pdf Works great! Had to clear CMOS to get it to boot, which felt a bit unusual, but that done...

Modifying older drivers to support newer video card releases?

I recall back in the day modifying a driver or two, to add lines to its .inf allowing support of a video card that was released after the driver was. Either my memory is getting worse, or the 'how' of this has changed a lot, as I'm drawing a blank on trying that, now. Specifically, I'm running...

Looking for recommendation for 64gb DDR4-2666

I did check with Shuttle's website, but their compatibility list is...dated, to say the least. It has no 64gb kits listed, at all, despite the fact the motherboard/chipset has no problem supporting 64gb. I'll take a look at that recommendation, thanks!

Feels like it's been a day since I've posted here, but looking for some advice! Per the subject - I'm trying to find some ram for my system. SEEMS like a simple question, although here is the catch - I'm running a Shuttle XPC, with an H-series Intel chipset, so I cannot use XMP profiles. The...

Facebook Posts Land US Contractor In Emirates Jail

Interestingly, that's actually the exact opposite of reality. What rights do you think you have vs a lion? Vs a gang out in the plains? Vs even just one other person who happens to be between you and your gun, pointing one at you? There are absolutely no "inherent rights" that you get by...

The Star Trek vs. Star Wars Trailer

Merely old enough to be grumpy at the constant 'dumbing down of things' to appeal to the widest audience. TOS Trek had something unique and different, but rather than build on it, they threw it out to spiffy up the special effects. (And FWIW, I actually do like Star Wars more than Star...

The Star Trek vs. Star Wars Trailer

Well, the REAL question is whether you want to go with 'Star Trek' or 'Star Trek As Influence By Star Wars' when fighting Star Wars. You'll recall that Original Series Trek make it *very* clear (VERY CLEAR) that nearly all combat happened at warp speeds. Having to fight at sublight was a...

    Samsung HDTV's @ 120 Hz

Netflix Plans Twenty Original Shows A Year

I don't see the issue. Name of the series, after all, is 'Firefly'...the class of ship they were flying. So tell the story of the crew of another Firefly-class ship in a new season, instead of the Serenity's crew. It'd be an interesting way to mix things up, keep the story new.

Netflix Plans Twenty Original Shows A Year

Wonder if they'd ever think of taking on the budget for remastering new shows? Netflix broadcasts pretty much everything in HD, yet have a lot of content in SD, still, as it simply never got released in HD. Closest analogy would be to their season 6 of the Clone Wars, where Netflix isn't...

Microsoft Confirms That Windows 10 Kernel Will be 10.0

    Why Microsoft Loves Linux

No kidding - I actually AM really solid with PCs, and dual-booted Linux and Windows for a while, but never really got into gaming on Linux as it was DOS 6.x flashback-time trying to get anything to work. Steam's Linux port has improved things tremendously, but even then - was jumping through...

Any of the cool new Maxwell 2 anti-aliasing modes (DSR, MFSAA) work with Maxwell 1?

I'm pretty happy with just DSR, actually, and if that is coming to Kepler, it would seem pretty obvious that even Maxwell 1 could get it. But it's a good question RE: MFAA on Maxwell 1, anyway, if THAT can't come to Kepler.

Any of the cool new Maxwell 2 anti-aliasing modes (DSR, MFSAA) work with Maxwell 1?

Looks like that at the moment, yeah - I guess the question is more whether this is a hardware thing, or just a driver thing (IE., nVidia has only exposed the capability in drivers for Maxwell 2, but it could be made to work on Maxwell 1, too).

Any of the cool new Maxwell 2 anti-aliasing modes (DSR, MFSAA) work with Maxwell 1?

As above. While I know the conventional answer is that the 750 Ti doesn't have the horsepower to do it, that really only applies to modern games. I play some relatively ancient games, that would have no issue with quadrupling (or more) their resolution and result in no performance difference...
