nah, i ordered a 3800XT for £327 about an hour before the 5xxx series release.
not fighting for the privelege to spend an extra £90 that will net me 1 extra FPS at the resolution i play at.
3800XT dropped £40 -and came with farcry6 - so i jumped.
cheers all, interesting discussion all round.
this is what prompted my question really:
i have just bought one of those WD D10 12TB 'xbox' drives for use as internal storage, for the princely sum of £180, and wondering when I would be able to buy an 8TB bus-powered external drive to partner...
We got 5tb 2.5inch drives in 2016.
We now have easily available 3.5inch consumer drives at 14tb, nothing exotic.
Feels like we should have got 6tb 2.5inch in 2019, and should at least have seen product announcements for 8tb by now...
Where did it all go wrong?
Thoughts?
Solid kick in the sack.
Given they support HDMI 2.1 when used with a compliant B550 board these would make great HTPC chips.
I have the Gigabyte B550 itx on pre-order... wondering how long i'll have to wait for a 4700G.
And we have an answer at last - 2.5Gbps will be the new (consumer) king:
https://www.anandtech.com/show/15916/at-last-a-25gbps-consumer-network-switch-qnap-releases-qsw11055t-5port-switch
i asked about this recently:
https://hardforum.com/threads/are-there-any-technical-advantages-to-the-new-type-c-front-panel-connector-standard.1996076/
and the consensus seemed to be that the new type C standard connectors do not imply any improved power delivery specification - such that an...
i'm including VAT (@ 20%), which i believe is not normal practice in retail dollar pricing, so probably closer to $225?]
yes, when this board was first announced they were talking about a $190-200 price range, but in the mean time we've seen a global pandemic that has knackered manufacturing...
thank you all.
so it appears that the new motherboard connector does not mandate any level of performance beyond the minimum that might be expected of the old style connector (even if it does offer the potential of greater performance).
Whether that be:
1. data-rates
2. power delivery
3. alt...
cheers.
i have used H75's on both my existing builds - my htpc with an i5 4440 and my main pc with an i7 5820k - and both have done 5-6 years now.
but since then the wraith's have come along with a good rep, so don't want to spend £75 for a marginal performance improvement.
as i'm replacing...

&
InWin 901
3600 is likely to double duty, first in my htpc (which is a dieing i5 4440 system), then as a temporary replacement for my i7 5820k until Zen4 is cheap (around Q1 2022).
just bought a 3600 for a good price, and also wondering about cooling.
no room for a 120mm tower, so curious whether a Corsair H75 would be a [substantial] improvement over a Wraith Stealth?
and as I my come into a Wraith Prism a few months down the line - whether the Corsair H75 would be a...
how quickly will RDNA2 arrive in the mid-range and low-end?
i.e. how quickly will we see the 5500 series replaced with something that has HDMI 2.1 and AV1 decode..
I've read elsewhere that an old-style USB 3.1 (10Gbps) m/b header will work fine on a old-style USB 3.0 ports on a case.
Re: the advantages of the new-style header -
Is this all possibilities, or are there any headline upgrades you can [always] expect from the new-style headers?
i.e. always...
i.e. will it always provide a performance floor above that which could be assumed on previous USB 3.x motherboard headers?
e.g. assumes a minimum data-rate of 10Gbps (rather than the possibility of supplying only 5Gbps)
e.g. assumes a minimum power delivery of 18W (rather than the possibility...
looks like a smashing board for £200, looking forward to it.
amused the google search page listing for the MSI product page is titled "return to honor"! :D
smashing, thank you.
also bought a second FT05 case for an absolute song.
my new pc is coming together in dribs and drabs whenever a bargain presents itself...
thank you all,
delighted that i might still benefit from the better power circuitry on the x570 tomahawk even with only one 8pin eps.
now just this question: :)
2. Back to the Elite - would i be able to use the 2 x USB 3.2 Gen 1 headers on a case which only has USB 3.0 5GB front sockets?
Separate questions:
1. If I were to get the 2x 8pin tomahawk - would i still benefit from the better power circuitry when only using it with 1x 8pin eps?
2. Back to the Elite - would i be able to use the 2 x USB 3.2 Gen 1 headers on a case which only has USB 3.0 5GB front sockets?
I bought a 650W Seasonic Prime Ultra Platinum for £100 (a bargain).
Intending to use it on an MSI x570 Tomahawk m/b (when released).
Realised afterwards the 650W model only has one EPS 8pin CPU power connector, and the x570 Tomahawk has two EPS 8pin CPU power connectors...!
Is this a problem...
or has this hardware flaw been fixed similar to the improvements seen in zen+?

What do we think of Silverstone PSU's these days?
[from the PoV of their higher tiers of products - gold/plat/titanium]
I have always used them:
750w strider silver from 2010 - rattly fan for the last six years, but still works fine.
750w strider gold from 2014 - going strong in current PC
650w...
cheers, just not quite sure counts as coffee lake (or derivative) in consumer market as a consequence of Intel's non-stop rehashing of the skylake uarch...
