There are two 140mm fan positions in the base but not on the PSU shroud itself. Personally though, I think the ideal approach here wouldn't be to add fans closer to the GPU so much as getting the existing airflow to go there on its own (rather than taking the path of least resistance directly...
I actually had a Grandia GD06 myself back before I joined on at Fractal Design. It was a bit too deep to fit with the other home theater components, but it was well made and I remember being fairly impressed with it overall.
Our Node 605 was an outstanding case when it came to blending in well...
Replacing a faulty front I/O shouldn't be much trouble.
SineDave have you tried contacting our support team yet at support.fractal-design.com to see about getting a replacement? Every case comes with a 2 year warranty but even if that's passed I'm sure we can still get you whichever part...
Our Define XL can apparently take a shotgun blast if that qualifies as overbuilt. The newer Define R6 a bit less hefty but I'd say it's definitely worth checking out if you're looking for something solid and versatile. I may be a little biased, of course.
I don't see anything unusual about those screws, so as far as I can tell they really shouldn't be giving you so much grief with the top filter alignment. In my experience, the best way to get the top filter lined up just right is to lay it in and then push along the edge from the center out...
Interesting. By no means an uncommon cooler so it seems like there surely would have been another complaint by now if all of them had this same issue with the R6. I'll check with the support team and see what they've heard. Maybe they can suggest some sort of fix as well.
It should be no trouble at all to send you a replacement set. Odd that your kit only included 8 of the 12 that should've been there. Our support team's generally pretty quick to action but feel free to shoot me a pm if there's any way I can assist.
I may be a little biased, but the Define R5 does seem like the perfect match here. I'd definitely check it out, especially while the solid side panel Blackout edition is $20 off with free shipping @ Newegg.
That is absolutely bizarre. I've never heard a sound like that come from one of our fans. I talked to support a while ago and they're equally mystified. It would defy all probability for all 3 fans to be defective in a way to cause such a peculiar noise, but I'm not sure what else it could be...
I'll be glad to help however I can, assuming our support guys haven't already sorted everything out for you. Defects are rare enough on their own, so to have three fans all exhibiting the same issue right out of the box makes me think there's something more to it. Do you have the fans plugged...
HighSpeed PC gifted me one of these units at a PAX event several years back and it's been pretty solid with a good bit of functionality for an $80 bench: https://www.amazon.com/HighSpeed-PC-Half-Deck-Tech-Station/dp/B015JLMVKG/
Given a choice between Nylon and PVC I'd recommend Nylon filters any day. Both catch dust fairly well, but Nylon filters do so without about half the restriction to airflow. Most Fractal Design cases use Nylon, but since we don't sell our filters separately I don't feel too conflicted in...
External window dimensions are 280 x 332 mm on the Define C and 280 x 292 mm on the Define Mini C. There's definitely space for an LED strip, and as it just so happens one of our crew had a Define C with an NZXT HUE+ installed at a recent gathering: http://imgur.com/a/hM87P
Sorry to hear...
Any limitations on width? The Node 804 is just a fraction over 12" in height but it's more a of a cube shape: http://www.fractal-design.com/home/product/cases/node-series/node-804
Fantastic component and cooling support though. You could do two 1080s with four radiators if you wanted to.
Could also depend on the light source. I'm no expert when it comes to optics, but I do know different UV lamps put out varying wavelengths and spectrum. Some lights are more effective than others at getting strong florescence out of certain colors/materials.
You might try getting a CFL...
It's probably not the smallest, but the Define Mini C is the most of the space efficient MicroATX towers out there: http://www.fractal-design.com/home/product/cases/define-series/define-mini-c
If all you're wanting to fit is a motherboard, nic and SFX PSU though, ITX might be the more suitable...
Not sure there are any spots open for design consultants, but much of what goes into our case designs starts with the feedback we receive right here in the forums. I'm definitely on board with the idea of a super compact ATX case though, and if the widespread popularity of the new Define C is...
If the minimalist styling suits your taste I'd suggest checking out the Define R5. It's got an easy-open latching mechanism on the side panel that makes it pretty quick to get into.
There are several color and side panel variations but the Titanium editions happen to have a pretty sweet deal...
If such a thing does exist, I can think of several potential issues that would come along with fitting so many drives in such a small space. For one, some SSDs can heat up quite a bit with sustained used, and in such tight quarters it wouldn't really have anywhere to go unless the drive caddy...
I'm naturally going to be a bit biased, but if quiet is what you're looking for then the Define R5 is exactly that.
There was a pretty fascinating series of tests done on the R5 using the "world's quietest room" that you might be interested to check out...
Large/multi side panel fans aren't particularly common, but aside from that it shouldn't be all that difficult to meet these criteria. Going with a 240mm rad would expand your options quite a bit though.
Both the Define S and Define R5 are great ATX mid tower cases with solid side panels that...
All good ideas. I'm also a fan of sleeved cabling and I don't think anyone would argue with more warranty. Dual 4+4 connectors are understandably niche, geared more to the workstation and server side of life by my understanding, but monitoring and fan control could be quite useful to hardware...
I'm sorry to hear that. Were you able to a replacement under the warranty? If there's anything I can do to help please shoot me a pm and I'll be glad to assist.
A waterproof PSU is an interesting idea, though it would certainly would be quite an undertaking to design such a thing. I imagine...
I may have mentioned it once or twice before, but user feedback is the single most important resource we rely on when it comes to new product designs and revisions. I think one of the biggest reasons cases like the Define R5, Define S and the new Define C series have been such a widespread...
Does the manual go into more detail on the setting? My assumption is that setting AC Power Loss Restart to OFF just tells it not to restart rather than disabling the anti-surge feature and/or warning message, and in that case I suppose the concern is that it restarted anyway instead shutting...
It's just a notification to let you know there was something up with the power coming in from the wall (in this case a sudden outage) and the built-in safeguards were triggered to protect the system. It's normal to get this sort of message on certain boards whenever the power goes out. I...
The Define S has been extremely popular for modding in general, and it's gotten especially positive feedback when it comes to water cooling setups. No 480 support, but you can do up to 420 in the top alongside a 360 in the front, there are pre-drilled holes on the bottom panel for DDC and D5...
What sort of issues did you notice with the build quality on your XL?
Kinda surprising to hear a complaint on that model. It's got to be one of the stoutest cases I've ever seen. We benchmarked the side panel with a 12 gauge shotgun at one point:
Do the fans move at all like it's trying to start or is it completely unresponsive when pressing the power button?
You might also try disconnecting all non-essential hardware and try booting with just the basics to help rule out the other components. Disconnect everything but the keyboard...
It's mostly just a question of when and where. I couldn't say what's coming next, but both window and solid side panel versions of the R5 Blackout have been on sale several different times over the past couple months at Newegg, NCIXUS and Superbiiz.com. If you keep checking on pcpartpicker.com...
There was a really nice deal on it at NCIXUS.com about a week ago, but you raise a good point. The R5 White really should get its turn for a Newegg special. Not sure if there's enough time to make it happen before Christmas, but we'll see what we do.
As your resident Fractal Design official hardware rep I'm not usually in the practice of posting here in the Hot Deals section, but I've got Kyle's blessing to do so for this one particular instance. There are some pretty sweet deals going right now that are above and beyond what we can normally...
If you're not too committed to the cold rolled steel look the Define R5 is an excellent all-around choice for a mid-tower case, and both windowed and solid panel versions have crazy good deals going on for Newegg's Cyber Monday today:
Define R5 Black - reg. $109.99, currently $69.99 after $10...
The Define R5 sounds like it'd be right up your alley:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007583%2050014581&IsNodeId=1&Description=fractal%20design%20define%20r5&name=Computer%20Cases&Order=BESTMATCH&isdeptsrh=1
Not sure if it qualifies as slim, but the Define C we launched last week is very lean for an ATX case and has fairly robust sound dampening and water cooling compatibility to boot: http://www.fractal-design.com/home/product/cases/define-series/define-c
As Tsumi says, components with coil whine don't necessarily have anything wrong with them at all. Since yours is doing it regardless of the system's state though, it's worth considering that it might be getting noise from the outlet. If you haven't already, try plugging your PC into a noise...
