Your issue sounds related to PCIe lane Sharing with regard to your nvme drives. I would try just one single drive in Slot 1 and see if the issue persists. If not, add the 2nd ect. All you can do is use the latest driver supported, generally they still support DX10, 11 and 12 (sometimes) so as long as they still access those API's you should be fine for a while. Otherwise its time to upgrade.
