Has Intel finally released a DDR5 HEDT motherboard?

Honestly, I didn't know that the CPUs weren't out yet and I haven't built a PC in almost 10 years. My current PC is a very old Z97 DDR3 build and I am just waiting for a DDR5 HEDT motherboard with the features I want so I can finaly build a new PC.

Has Intel finally released a DDR5 HEDT motherboard?

Don't know. I don't think it has actually made its way to retail channels yet as I can't find it anywhere. I fully expect it to be well north of $500 though.

Has Intel finally released a DDR5 HEDT motherboard?

Well, one is for a GPU, one is for a Mellanox Connect X2 card and one will be for additional SATA ports. It's always nice to have enough PCIe slots for whatever I may need them for even if I never use them. That's the entire point of a HEDT motherboard. "Options"

Has Intel finally released a DDR5 HEDT motherboard?

The Asrock W790 WS looks like the closest thing I have seen to a DDR5 HEDT motherboard with it's 5 full x16 PCIe lanes 4 of which are 5.0. This is aimed at workstations though but still, should I pull the trigger or wait for more and better offering to soon be released?

Why are the latest DDR5 motherboards so tiny?

YES! Like I have been saying. I have been looking at the new Asus and Asrock DDR5 motherboards and all I would like is for them to take either the X79 Extreme11 or X99 Extreme11 and update it with all of the latest tech. Is that really too much to ask? Lots of USB4\Tunderbolt and USB3.2...

That is such a dumbass response. What, did I hurt your feelings or something?

Why are the latest DDR5 motherboards so tiny?

I don't care about pure performance, I care about capacity. I only need 1 high performance, high capacity drive for the OS and my games. So it isn't necessary for motherboards to have multiple/many M.2 slots and for these drives to even be twice as expensive. As for U.2 drives? I have never...

Thanks for the suggestion. I didn't know about these and this will help me plan my upcoming build nicely.

Why are the latest DDR5 motherboards so tiny?

Old man? I am in my mid 30's and most of my drives are 10TB or above. Higher capacity drives means I can download and store more stuff. Yes, there is still a need for more than 4 SATA ports. You know, back in the early 2000's, there was a local computer repair shop that had been around for...

Why are the latest DDR5 motherboards so tiny?

No, as a data hoarder who has literally spent many many thousands of dollars on hard drives in just the last decade and is well up on storage trends, I think it is you who needs to "get caught up on storage options". Just looking at Newegg and nowhere else, the cheapest 8TB M.2 SSD is $1,075...

Why are the latest DDR5 motherboards so tiny?

But I don't use or care about M.2 drives. I get that they are faster but 2.5" SATA SSD's are still plenty fast and are a lot cheaper and can you even RIAD M.2/PCIe drives? I would rather have many cheap high capacity mechanical SATA drives in a RAID than several really fast over priced M.2...

Why are the latest DDR5 motherboards so tiny?

OP here. So in my current PC, I have my 980Ti, a Mellanox ConnectX-2 10G NIC card, a USB 3.1 C card and a card to add more SATA ports. On the new build I am planning, I will have an RTX 3 card and I will keep the Mellanox ConnectX-2. I can eliminate the USB 3.1 card since the new motherboard...

Why are the latest DDR5 motherboards so tiny?

So I have been looking at the EATX and ATX Intel 1700 motherboards from Asrock and Asus and they ALL only have have at most a measly pathetic 2 PCIe 5.0 x16 slots and some will also have 1 additional 4.0 PCIe x16 slot for a total of three. It also seems the new AMD DDR5 motherboards are just as...

Looking for advice on building a cluster.

I have two servers that are completely full. Continuing to fill up individual servers seems like it will be problematic going forward so I want to consolidate my data into one pool as well as allow for plenty of room for future storage. My setup so far is FreeNAS running on separate servers so...

    Intel X299 motherboard thread

It's the principle of the matter. If I am spending $400+ on a new motherboard, I want the latest and greatest and I don't feel that I should have sacrifice a PCIe slot and spend even more money on a 10Gbe NIC because the manufacturer was too lazy or cheap to include it in the place. I don't...

What is the highest speed I can get out of a raid array?

My Norco has OmniOS amd my other servers have FreeNAS. File transfers get done faster.

    Intel X299 motherboard thread

What a shame... So many of these high-end mobo's still only have gigabit nics on them... It's infuriating that they are still putting obsolete tech in new expensive enthusiast hardware. I have only noticed two of these boards have 10Gbe nics which really limits my choices.

    10gbe home network.

Don't care. I am planning for the future and with modern hardware and the falling prices on 40gbe switches, even if I don't get the full 5GB/s speeds on every machine I still think it will be worth it. So to confirm what that site I linked to was saying. I can get a 40Gbe QSFP+ switch and use...

    10gbe home network.

My goal is to get a 40Gbe switch and a 40Gbe card for my main PC and storage server, for the others, I would get the Mellanox Connect X-2 cards and still be able to use them with my 40Gbe switch.

What is the highest speed I can get out of a raid array?

I am looking at 10Gbe switches and I am wondering if I can get 40Gbe speeds from an array of mechanical disks. All my servers hold 36 drives or more and if I can get a sustained speed of 200MB/s out of one drive than I should be able to get 7.2GB/s or 57.6Gb/s out of 36 drives. Is my...

So are these the kinds of switches I need and is there a newer version of the Mellanox Connect X-2 that is supported by newer OS's and are there other 10Gbe cards out there that you would recommend and do you know where I can get low profile brackets for a decent price?

The problem is definitely FreeNAS and not a hardware or network issue. I used OMV to copy files to my server and I got sustained transfer speeds of 110-115MB/s.

My primary PC has a Realtek and an Intel nic. I use the Intel nic. My primary storage is mechanical hard drives, Toshiba mostly, which are pretty fast. I can easily get 200MB/s+ transferring from one drive but transferring from an array should much faster. Why you gotta harsh my mellow :p...

Nice! $100 on B&H, Nextwarehouse and Superbiiz. So this looks like it uses standard ethernet cables. All the other 10Gbe stuff uses twinax cables like what bman was taking about. Hmm... What kind of a switch would I need if I got these cards?

    10gbe home network.

So would it be better to go with a Infiniband or Fiber Channel setup? I just want to be able to move data between my computers at a speed of at least 1GB/s (Gigabyte) and not the 30MB/s it is now. What would your recommendations be to achieve this?

Do SAN/DAS boxes support higher capacity drives?

Do all the SAN/DAS disk arrays support 6+ TB drives or do they only take the drive capacity listed on the trays which is usually less than 1TB? Does anyone know if the Sun Storage J4400 arrays take 6TB or larger drives? How fast are these arrays?
  35. R

    10gbe home network.

No, just a switch. This is just a local network for moving files back and forth fast. All of my computers will be near each other and only one will be kind of far-ish away, 100ft or so.

    10gbe home network.

I want to build a 10gbe home network. 10gbe cards and switches are inexpensive. I wanted to go for 40gbe but am I right to assume that an individual PC's or server isn't capable of those speeds anyway? So do I just put a card like this in each system and connect them to a 10gbe switch and that's...

Ok so I managed instal freedos and everything seemed to run fine but when I entered megacli.exe -AdpAllInfo -aAll -page 20, it just made some blank lines and didn't do anything. I even let it sit a while and still nothing. This is starting to really frustrate me. image
