I'm wondering if I can pull out the crappy OEM mini-PCIe card in there and drop in an intel 8260.
The main limitation is that I'd need a NGFF/M2 to miniPCIE adapter but other than that are there any other potential issues? I couldn't see anybody on the internet who'd done it.
Cheers
The CAD workstations we have at work (I work for a moderately large Oil & Gas EPC firm) are dual socket ivy bridge era quad core Xeon's with 128GB RAM and a Quadro K4200 fwiw. We do 99% of our work in Matlab (Simulink), Ansys, Solidworks and Access/Excel depending on what we're doing.
What I'm...
Personally could never go for it just due its size - It's over 30L where there are smaller cases for less BUT phantek do make really really good cases to work in and if you want to do an actual loop on ITX it would be easier to work in plus it's a good price...
The touching is less of an issue than the blocking a RAM slot - The only direction it wont block something else is if I could somehow remove or get a lower heatsink cooler (I think it would need to be about 3mm shorter than current)
I bought one of the AR05 coolers for my Z77E-itx and have been having issues getting it to fit.
The way it seems it's meant to go, with the end of the heatpipes pointing towards the PCI-e slot is not possible due to the other side, where the heatpipes loop up touching the chipset heatsink...
Computex is usually a show of what's coming. I wouldn't expect to see it on the market until September/October. If you want a comprehensive list of relatively short coolers head over to the dondan a4 thread.
Cryorig C1 and Silverstone AR05/AR06 come to mind.
Fractal unveiled exactly what I wanted from the Corsair in the Node 202 - They also bundle a 450W sfx PSU for another $60USD, I'm assuming it's going to be the same one as the silverstone so probably quite loud. But for $80USD without/$140USD with PSU it looks like a quality option - Same layout...
Most stores list a bulk price of ~$98 on the 3M which scares me a bit - Means the case could end up costing around $220-250 I'd guess.
After spending another $150 or so on a non-noisy low profile CPU cooler and an SFX/-L psu you're looking at up to $400 for the setup.
What do Silverstone use...
One of the reviews of the LP53 says that the cooling performance did not noticeably drop by putting on a 14mm fan instead of the 25mm that comes with it.
Yeah one of the posts is here:

I never continued the conversation in that thread but the titan cooler that I ended up getting was just unworkably the wrong dimensions - The amount I'd have to gut out would have compromised the...
Can't wait to see the thermal performance stats - the moment of truth!
I'd also be interested to get some info on the noise levels especially with the base intel cooler - It can get quite loud but in this situation with pretty decent airflow it might fare better.
Make sure you go through /r/buildapc etc with the campaign... there are some massive communities that I am sure would be keen and you could pick up some extra traction with. IDK if this could be as big as the NCase but I hope so. It's definitely just as, if not a more impressive piece of design...
After he receives the prototypes I assume he will still have to:
1) Build in to the case and test compatibility of "normal" parts
2) Troubleshoot any teething issues (Could be anything - issues with clips, manufacturing defects of the prototypes, things not lining up, contact causing heat...
I'm not surprised to see the AR05 beating the L9i given the copper heatpipe and better fan.... But beating the LP53, I'm not saying I don't believe it but I'd like to know more about the physical setup of their testbed (all the list is the parts, not whether it sits in a case/on a desk etc).
Thanks so much for taking the time to reply to me dude that saves me a lot of trouble, I hadn't even gone in to looking at the actual dimensions of the connectors... I was more worried about the heat management... It's the little things I guess.
Sounds like it might be more effort than it's...
An option to pick up an original titan cooler has just come up for cheap, I'm running a galax gtx980 (http://www.galax.net/US/980v.html) which is reference just with a plastic shroud for dat cost saving and works great.
Does anybody know if it possible (or worth the time) to swap the GTX980...
Are there any benchmarks showing the improved cooling performance of a 25mm fan on the Lh-9i?
I live in Australia and somehow after shipping etc the Noctua is actually just about the cheapest of the lot for me to get my hands on.. ($55 AUD)
I'm trying to do a DIY HTPC with a max CPU cooler height of 50mm before I transition to dondan's A4. I'm trying to assess my options and can see an Chieftec/Cooltek LP53 with a slim fan, the Noctua L-9i and the silverstone cooler would work. There is also the Evercool HPL-815 but it seems long...
If your expected demand is correct and you are looking in the several hundred mark for production do you think offering both colours could lead to an increase in cost due to splitting the production numbers?
I was going to buy a GTX980 reference from galax as they were the cheapest where I live, however i noticed that the product now being sold in most australian retailers is not the V1: http://www.galax.net/US/980.html
But actually the V2: http://www.galax.net/US/980v.html
Does anybody know...
