The hard drives are pulls from new HP or Dell Machines that we converted to SSD's. I have 3 of each I believe I will confirm...
_Gea:
1) I don't use USB in any way, that was the OP.
2) I am tired up over 20 hours. You are right about the vdev, we do two sets of mirror's stripped.
I always use Raidz2. I haven't used Raidz3 yet, but a couple of times I have lost two drives. I use 6 drive vdevs with Raidz2 and join them all into a pool. If the system is super critical I will mirror the vdev's.
One thing I would do with that much data is acquire another external USB drive...
No DP on the TV, it does have a 60Hz HDMI which the GTX 760 will push to it. It won't do 60Hz under OSX.
OSX is just a sometimes deal on that machine.
If performance is going to be about the same I am just going to stick with the 760 or put a 980 reference that I have in it.
Yeah gaming is...
Ok, for as long as I can remember I have been using dual monitor's. I got into using triple's around 2008-09 with the Dell 2707 monitor, then I went to the Dell U2711's as soon as I could get one in 2010 or so. I then tried the Dell U3011 monitors, liked it a lot, but I liked the ZR30w's better...
In my living room I have a computer attached to my TV, I don't use the HTPC a whole heck of a lot but I just upgraded my TV to a Vizio 4K TV.
Right now the system is.
256 SSD
Gigabit to SAN(I have a iSCSI mount that acts like a local drive)
GTX 760 2GB
i7-4770
16GB RAM

Ok, so I know I was an early adopter, I had a HTPC for years, have had a NAS setup for years, but now I have all Roku's/Chromecast's/XBox on the TV's and we just get OTA programming, anything from cable I want to watch I just download with my NAS setup, I am running ZFS on 4 6x4TB drive array's...
I tried the UP2715K and didn't like it other than the built in speakers, it was just too much resolution for 27" of display. I currently have two systems with the UP3214Q's on them, and I am replacing one of the systems, and am thinking about going for the U3415W. I haven't tried any of the...
Fry's is usually trouble on stuff like this, one time I had a friend buy an open box computer from there and it didn't have ram or processor in it and he had to come within a day or two of suing them to get his money back. I try to buy as little as possible from them.
That isn't a bad price but for 400 I am going to stick it into a FreeBSD or FreeNAS boxen and have something that performs better and has more options with just a touch more work.
I am sure in the near future that that type of ram is going to be in your size class but what app are you NEEDING 32GB of ram for as that type of specification is usually reserved for workstation classed machines.
Here is what I do when I want it in a desktop system is just have a FreeNAS system present an iSCSI drive to me. Works great nice and fast and reliable at one customer site we have 15-20 POWER users running their storage etc for fairly powerful engineering work stations.
BTW: Here is a shot of the ram usage on the server at the condo in Vegas. This system has two VDevs each is 6x4TB, RaidZ2, non hybrid, non ecc ram and went from 16GB of ram to 32GB 14 Jails one of them is Virtual Box that is running Win 2012 with a 16IP camera recording system. A Keycard...
sKiDmArK: I have six systems right now that are running FreeNAS/ZFS/Plex/Non-ECC Ram. I love seeing people saying ECC ram is a must on these systems over and over again. We have ran as much as 42x4TB hybrid drives on 16GB of non ECC ram, we have NEVER had any data loss while on ZFS. Unless we...
I have been many different ways about the Plex/HTPC's over the years and I like my current setup the best.
Disclaimer I do own my own company and my office backups from all of the servers from my offices to my home, so some of mine is overkill.
In a safe downstairs I have an i7-4790 that has...
bds: The tests that I showed you were my freenas system. The local storage was on the server and the client that I had I was just using a 1GB connection. I have 10GB connections on the bigger stuff, I just don't need it right now, performance is plenty with what I have. The only local storage I...
Here you go. The terminal is directly off the machine and I didn't turn anything off VirtualBox has 4 Windows 2012 machines in it, There were 3 1080P streams coming from the machine. This is my small storage server with 6x4TB Greendrives running RAIDZ2, no SSD ZIL or SSD L2ARC. It is running an...
kasakka: I have real Mac's and Hackintosh both. Under OSX I haven't gotten SLI to work. I use different cards for different monitors. My highest performance system is a E5-2680, I do have it where I can boot Hackintosh on it, but most of the time it is running Linux with 5-10 machines spooled up...
Ok, I have done 3x4k on UP3214k's and it "felt" faster than what the 5k does. The reason that it felt that way I believe was the fact that I was using a single reference 980 GTX on the center monitor and on the outboards I had a 980GTX driving those. The card's were not configured in SLI. I...
I use ZFS on FreeNAS and Solaris both, and it is very fast. I use SSD's for L2ARC & ZIL's where I need the speed. I have a few of these systems, and most of my storage space is on an iSCSI mount. A couple of things that I really like are snapshots and the fact that I don't have to redo the...
Surf, light 3d engineering, development/scripting photo editing, and yeah some porn lol I work from home and these are my primary systems.
I have two systems that I use one is i7-4790k and i7-4770, I also have an older i5-3570. 32GB of ram Samsung and Vortex SSD's. Everything other than OS is...
I have went back and fourth and back and fourth with my display. I have had the Dell 32" 4k monitor and the 27" 5k monitor and while the displays look gorgeous they bring my system to its knees as far as video goes. I have a Titan X and GTX 980 and neither one have the snap that I would like to...
Yes, dropping a hard drive can cause issues. That being said though, most drives have this feature built into them especially laptop hard drives https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Active_hard-drive_protection hard drive falls and failures are a weird bear I have seen a drop of just a couple of inches...
What resolution are you looking to playback? How much transcoding do you do? That is the first thing I would ask.
I have a large Plex/Home media setup, and currently can stream 8 different 1080p streams from my system.Right now I am running FreeNAS here are the specs.

I am a ZFS Fan so I would do ZFS on FreeNAS with a pair of L2ARC's and ZIL's and the thing would scream! I have 12x4TB drives and 2x250GB ZIL's and 2x480GB L2ARC's with 2x10GBE
