DAN A4-SFX: The smallest gaming case in the world

Ah, I see that it's for version 4... I've got version 1 of the A4. Might need to drill some holes.

DAN A4-SFX: The smallest gaming case in the world

Cool! How did you mount the 120mm bracket to the case? Have always wanted to try something like this in the A4... this bracket and the 400w HDPLEX, and your effort make it seem like it can be a reality!

Ca11idus, this is really cool! Could you share some more design details? Which 120mm bracket, AIO, power supply?

DAN A4-SFX: The smallest gaming case in the world

Cool, thanks for the advice! I am using the screw holes, and they are attaching. Are you suggesting to bend the flaps at the bottom of the panels where the screw mounts are?

DAN A4-SFX: The smallest gaming case in the world

Hi all! I have an much loved A4-SFX v1 that is experiencing some panel sag toward the front end of the case on both sides. Any suggestions for how to fix before I take a hammer to the case?

DAN A4-SFX: The smallest gaming case in the world

Not sure if this has been mentioned before, but has anyone attempted or thought through modifying an A4-SFX v1 with slits in the bottom of the case to take an AIO cooler like the v2?

aquelito, how loud are those single slot GTX 1070's under load? This seems like it could be a great build if they're not too loud!

DAN A4-SFX: The smallest gaming case in the world

If you can get your hands on it, I highly recommend the Nexus Low-7000 R2 coupled with the Thermalright Narrow ILM bracket to use a Xeon E5 in the A4. I used the T318+TY-100 fan for about a year with a Xeon E5 V3 and found the temperatures too high to be comfortable. I think the TY-100 will...

Nice work getting this built!! I just received my A4 as well and was really tempted to try this idea, but having waited nearly 1.5 years I decided that I could wait a little longer and see what was around the corner with Vega-- I'm hoping that AMD produces an update to the R9 Nano. Since you...

Thermalright's Narrow ILM adapter works with this cooler and mounts to either Intel Narrow 2011 socket or AMD's AM3 socket. Do we know how AM4 compares to AM3? If the coolers are compatible this will work with that as well.

I mounted it without taking photos, but you can see the area I cut out of the narrow ILM bracket under the copper heat pipes on the right side of the image above. Here's a picture of where to make the cuts (drawn in red)

For those planning X99 builds in the A4, I wanted to follow up on dondan's comment that the Nexus LOW-7000 provides the best cooling performance and how to attach it to the Asrock X99 ITX board. I've used the dynatron t318 for over a year and have found the cooling performance to be subpar, Dan...

Wow! Just curious, what radiator and pump are you using for this? What kindof temps are you getting? That looks like a lot of hardware on a single 120mm radiator, if that's what you're using!

I think that we've seen this working before with GTX 970's in Windows 10, correct? The issues have been with GTX 1070/80's in Windows 10 using this riser combination, correct? Regardless, happy to see that this is working for you, nice job!!

    GALAX Unveils a Single-slot GeForce GTX 1070

There are some. And, @Ivyelion, I think that these GPUs (with TDPs much larger than 75W) primarily draw power off of the 6/8-pin PEG connectors. Others have passively split a single 16x PCIe port and have run two GTX 1070s or 970s with no problem. If you were splitting to two GTX 750 Tis...

    GALAX Unveils a Single-slot GeForce GTX 1070

Wow, that is pretty cool, could fit two of these in the same space as a single double slot GPU with the right bifurcated PCIe splitter.

Hi Dan, Could you provide some more details on this mod? I'd like to improve temperatures from the T318 and am interested in trying this. Also, really loving the progress on the window designs. Looking forward to seeing this become a reality! Thanks!

Awesome!! Nice work breathless. You're the first reported example of a fully working GTX 1070 in SLI off of a consumer ITX motherboard. - Unfortunate that the boot takes forever. At which point does it hang? In the BIOS initialization phase, or in Windows? - Hey, as long as all 8GB are...

Ah, that card has a PLX chip on it, that's why each card gets x16 lanes rather than x8! 16 lanes are fed from the chip to each of the cards. However, there are only 16 lanes that come from the motherboard into the PLX chip so the two cards share the original x16 lanes from the motherboard...

    PCIE Bifurcation

I think you're really close to getting this working. There's a few permutations left to try it seems, different bifurcation cards and Haswell-E CPUs. Let us know if you hear anything back from ASrock about an updated BIOS as well!

You could conceivably house it all in an M1!

    PCIE Bifurcation

Got it, was just curious why you mentioned that bifurcation is broken on the current BIOS with Broadwell-E... could it actually just be completely dysfunctional in the current, non-beta BIOS? I suppose from up above it seems like alfaSZ was able to get bifurcation working on the non-beta BIOS...
  28. J

    PCIE Bifurcation

breathless Thanks for the update. Unfortunate that things aren't running smoothly. You seem to point to Broadwell-E as a possible culprit, have you tried with a Haswell-E or Haswell-EP CPU?
  29. J

    PCIE Bifurcation

Great to hear you have it working! The HDPlex riser is not bifurcated, correct? What are you using to bifurcate your PCIe connection? EDIT: Nevermind, I see your previous post about using the RSC-R2UT-2E8R. Congrats on getting it working!
  30. J

    PCIE Bifurcation

Sounds like they don't know either! Could be signal instability due to cable length or power issues. Has anyone thought of trying the RSC-R2UT-2E8R with active power and no cabling and then using 3M twin axial cables to route the PCIe signal to the GPUs? This solution would avoid possible...

    PCIE Bifurcation

breathless, welcome to the thread, glad the information here has been helpful! I'm curious then why the RX 480 was designed to draw so much power over the PCIe slot instead of drawing more over the PEG connectors. Seems like an odd decision, but maybe it was to keep costs down by not adding...

DAN A4-SFX: The smallest gaming case in the world

Personally I prefer the design with the acrylic panels (or glass) flush against the case. That being said, I'd love to see a window design, so I'm happy to go with which ever you prefer and is feasible to make!

DAN A4-SFX: The smallest gaming case in the world

Right! The whole advantage of the A4 is being able to use off the shelf components, and thus the most powerful GPUs on the market, like the Pascal Titan X, and have the power supply in the case.

DAN A4-SFX: The smallest gaming case in the world

Hi Dan, This fantastic news. As someone who has been using the Dynatron T318 cooler coupled with the Thermalright TY-100 fan, I have to say that I've been unimpressed with cooling performance even with undervolting the CPU. This is really unfortunate news. The E5-16xx chips were the only ones capable of supporting ECC RAM and overclocking. I assume this was a retail chip? Also, could anyone else confirm this with another motherboard/CPU configuration?
