Electronic Arts Lays Off Some PopCap Employees

Exactly. They did a really great job with plants vs zombies 2. I played it even more than the first, but the in-app-purchase model EA forced on it both hurt the game and I'm assuming resulted in less income. I would have happily paid $2.99 for the game, but I had no interest in paying money for...

    Is Plasma TV Dead?

Truth. I was a refresh rate nut back in those days and remember the smoothness and improvement in competitive gameplay was huge. Feels like we've gone backwards and miseducated the masses about refresh rate.

Apple's Head-Tracking Media Display System Patent

This already exists... http://arstechnica.com/reviews/hardware/virtual-reality-headset-review.ars We picked up a pair at the office for testing and I was pretty impressed with the accuracy, not at all gimmicky. The one downside is you're limited to 800 x 600 and the screen feels a little too...

    Best Laptop for ~900?

    Panoramic software

I second the vote for auto stitcher above. It's been able to stitch shots where other software hasn't and the results are always excellent. It does soften the image a little, so apply some sharpening after and you're good to go.

    New Domain Name Practice Criticized

The whole reason they get away with this is because of the free ICANN sampling period. ICANN allows a period of (I believe) 3 days to use a domain for free. At the end of the 3 days, the registrar can return the domain at no cost. It's this little loop hole that allows companies to temporarily...

    Alienware’s New Curved Monitor

Treat this as nothing more than a prototype, not unlike the out of this world prototypes you see at car shows. That's fine they aren't perfect because they're not meant for mass production and sales. Instead, they function as tech demos for a new technology, in this case, near seamless...

He's right on. I did a double check myself to see if you were talking about video editing. If you're on a budget, there are probably other things you could spend the money on that will be more rewarding (I know not really in the [H] spirit). As it is, format and do a fresh install of windows for...

    Powering My Monkey.

Any word on how quickly the solar panel regenerates power? If I left my ipod connected to it, sitting in the sun, could it theoretically run forever? Or does something like an ipod generally draw power quicker than the panel can regenerate it?

    Nintendo pulls Wii advertising

I love Nintendo and the Wii as much as the next person, but to claim they are cutting Wii ad funding because they're 'responsibly avoiding further demand' is the silliest thing I've ever heard. Not even non-profit organizations put the community before the company. It's simply a matter of 'Hey...

MGS4 Needs To Sell A Million On Day One

Clever of him to use the word "bullish". While it could definitely mean they're confident in the PS3; based on pesimistic "have to sell 1 million units on the first day", I think by "bullish" he means bullheaded, or stubborn for throwing all their eggs in Sony's basket. Really, who says "we...

    Microsoft, Autodesk Lose Patent Appeal

Is U.S. Stuck in Internet's Slow Lane?

I lived in New Zealand for the last year, and they're still well behind the US. I was paying the equivalent of $40 (US) a month for a line that gave me 1Mb/s with a hard cap of 10GBs per month. Once you go over, you're cut back to dial-up speeds. That was their entry level line, but the high...

I love this revived popularity in MS paint recently. Not a bad job with this one. Throwing some pumping techno over any video makes it more exciting, even when its watching a guy draw in paint, haha. Though it seems like 50% of his time / effort was spent on just that gradient on the right.

No worries mate, glad you found it to fit your desktop. :) The changes you make with UxTheme are reversible. The only danger would be if you downloaded a theme loaded with a virus, but I'd consider that an almost 0 risk. Best of all there is no additional overhead in terms of memory / cpu...
