To be fair, HEDT as a market segment did not exist during P4's era. So to classify the top SKUs (and the infamous emergency editions) as "mainstream" seems misleading. They were the de facto "HEDT" parts during a time in which Intel had not segmented the mainstream/HEDT platforms.

Well if you went Z390 then you know for sure that's the end of the road. I'm entirely not convinced Ryzen 3000 is end of the road for AM4, and have seen no convincing evidence (forget that, not even rumors) indicating that's the case.

Considering Zen 2 desktop released before Rome (Epyc 2), I'm not sure that conclusion holds. To be clear I'm not saying Zen 3 desktop will release before Milan, but at this point I see no evidence pointing to Ryzen 3000 being end of the road for AM4.

What OC is your 4770K at? If it's 4.5 or less it means my chip is severely underperforming. Should be within 2-3% of 4930K if at the same frequency. SB to IB was on average 3% IPC improvement IIRC.
