I would not do this under any circumstances period. I know 99% of the members on here are upstanding people who would never screw around with your account, but there's just too much at stake to hand over a complete stranger your password for a measly $100. If you catch that rotten 1%, you're...

Ryzen 3000 hype and review oddities

If only 1 review out of say 20 saw this, then it's quite reasonable to conclude the reviewer did something wrong/it was an artificially induced situation and move on.

AMD Ryzen R9 3900X Review Round Up

I can't wait for the day RGB PCB becomes a thing. I mean seriously why not, we already have red, orange (think ribbon cable color), green, blue as standard colors, so just gotta throw in yellow, indigo, and purple and we're done. And then we can throw in black and white on top to truly complete...

I found some perfectly compatible ram for Ryzen 3900x - just sharing

No that's fair enough I just got a little annoyed. More choice is always good. I'm a "performance first" guy so I tend to strongly gravitate towards GSkill since they usually have the fastest pre-binned ram in town.

I found some perfectly compatible ram for Ryzen 3900x - just sharing

OMFG it's like people don't read. Literally three posts up: That's what the "rolling the dice" is in reference to, NOT IMC strength, NOT ram compatibility, but rolling the dice on being able to tighten the timings to CL17 on a CL18 kit. THAT'S IT. Why would I even suggest a CL17 kit otherwise?

I found some perfectly compatible ram for Ryzen 3900x - just sharing

lol I'm also just sharing there's a 3600 CL17 kit for only $11 more for those who'd rather not roll the dice. Don't know why you're getting so aggressive but whatever.

I found some perfectly compatible ram for Ryzen 3900x - just sharing

Ram OC not compatibility Kit in OP is CL18. Why roll the dice when you can buy B-die ram at CL17 already for only $11 more?

I meant ram lottery, not IMC lottery.

I found some perfectly compatible ram for Ryzen 3900x - just sharing

Or why not just buy a 3600 CL17 kit without having to play the lottery? Especially good option if you hate RGB like me, and only $11 more too: https://www.newegg.com/g-skill-16gb-288-pin-ddr4-sdram/p/N82E16820232183 Or this 4000 CL19 kit for about the same price...

Ryzen 3000 hype and review oddities

Just buy a damn 9900K or wait for the 9900KS (assuming not vaporware) or wait for Comet Lake if you have the patience and be done with it. You're for looking for reasons to NOT buy AMD and I strongly suspect even if the community convinced you, you'll still find something to nitpick over/be...

AMD Ryzen R9 3900X Review Round Up

Forget Fermi, FX 5800 was true original dustbuster, and the entire FX series as a whole was kinda lackluster. To this day I still can't figure out how anyone at nVidia OK'd that dental drill of a fan on the FX 5800. I mean yeah sure we've had loud blowers from both camps after that, but nothing...

I also enjoy a little "style" which is why my case has a window and I have some blue LED fans. However there's a big difference between some subtle highlights and full out RAINBOW MADNESS. The machine is used to drive a display, which is where my eyes are focused on 99.5% of the time. The...

Despite what AMD says in drivers, did s.o. test Ryzen 3000+Windows 7

This ridiculous back and forth is making my head spin, so I'll just throw this out there: since one needs to jump through so many more hoops to get Ryzen 3000 to work with Win 7, I'd argue anyone who makes a conscious decision to stick with Win 7 at this point is not the type to turn their...

    Zen 2 Review Summary

Wut I never said 3950X was mid-range lol. I actually objected to labeling 3950X as "mainstream" even though it's on a "mainstream" platform since 16C/32T is anything BUT mainstream, and of course the price reflects that. But all that got lost in translation somehow. Forget the 3950X, you...

    Zen 2 Review Summary

To be fair, HEDT as a market segment did not exist during P4's era. So to classify the top SKUs (and the infamous emergency editions) as "mainstream" seems misleading. They were the de facto "HEDT" parts during a time in which Intel had not segmented the mainstream/HEDT platforms.

Forget T-Bird, you want crazy, how about a $2000 Pentium II? https://www.cnet.com/news/300-mhz-pentium-ii-box-for-1999/ BUT that was the absolute bleeding edge at the time, and also PCs weren't as common, so less volume = higher cost per capita, amongst other reasons why prices were so high...

That's why I also didn't buy one at launch but instead got a used one for $400 from this very site. ;) (I was coming from a severely anemic i7-740QM laptop at the time so I think I suffered waited long enough)

    Zen 2 Review Summary

See this sort of price normalization is why we have the prices we have these days. Sorry not trying to single you out here, just saying instead of accepting these ridiculous prices, I voted with my wallet and refused to buy overpriced shit. That's why I'm still on a 4930K + 980 Ti.

    Zen 2 Review Summary

To be fair, 3950X is squarely in the HEDT realm in terms of price. Sure it might be on a "mainstream" platform, yet the price is anything but. (yes I'm aware of what Intel's HEDT pricing looks like, just saying $500 is really where it should end for mainstream, and $750 I just can't justify as...

AMD Ryzen R9 3900X Review Round Up

Fack you very much Dan_D, now what am I supposed to upgrade to? Z390 is dead, and I absolutely do not want a 14nm++++ chip, so Intel's out until 2021 at least. Meanwhile I'd really hate to be on the tail-end of AM4, so I guess one more year of waiting it is.
  25. N

AMD Ryzen R9 3900X Review Round Up

Fair enough. I guess I read AMD's statement as AM4 will be supported until end of 2020, in which case Ryzen 4000 will most likely make the cut.

AMD Ryzen R9 3900X Review Round Up

Well if you went Z390 then you know for sure that's the end of the road. I'm entirely not convinced Ryzen 3000 is end of the road for AM4, and have seen no convincing evidence (forget that, not even rumors) indicating that's the case.

AMD Ryzen R9 3900X Review Round Up

Considering Zen 2 desktop released before Rome (Epyc 2), I'm not sure that conclusion holds. To be clear I'm not saying Zen 3 desktop will release before Milan, but at this point I see no evidence pointing to Ryzen 3000 being end of the road for AM4.

I game at 1440p and spend ~10% of my time ripping DVDs (encoding, sorta). Explain to me why 9900K is the better purchase please. This is the part so many miss. Z390 is a dead end, 9900K is the last "upgrade" for it. Want anything faster? Another $200+ for the mobo you go. If we're going to...

What OC is your 4770K at? If it's 4.5 or less it means my chip is severely underperforming. Should be within 2-3% of 4930K if at the same frequency. SB to IB was on average 3% IPC improvement IIRC.

Even just 2 years ago I would've agreed with Joker that maxing out a CPU from the factory is stupid and basically a middle finger to the enthusiasts.
