Temperatures tend to be a little lower when used in the vertical orientation. It tends to only be a couple degrees of a difference though if I remember correctly.
Long story short, the biggest differences (in my opinion) are larger ventilation areas and less screws required for assembly. Page 1 of the 2.0 thread has the list of 26 changes to the case ranging from minor to major differences.
If you have a 2080 you would benefit from the larger ventilation...
I think that's a matter of opinion. Sentry 2.0 is better than Sentry 1.1 in every way except that 2.0 doesn't support SFX-L since it has better water cooling support. I wouldn't say that 1.1 is a bad case though. I still have my 1.1 case and plan on using it for a backup PC. I still think it's a...
Linus has another video featuring the Sentry 2.0 (it's the one that's hinted at in SaperPL's post above). It's nothing really new, but it's just nice that this case is still getting coverage. It also has a chance to win the PC, but that's obviously highly unlikely.
I'm not saying it's not a smart move. I'm just curious what changed to have 500 cases be the goal. Some previous calculation must have been done to arrive at the original 1000 case goal.
I noticed that the funding requirement was cut in half.
What changed for you to cut the requirement so much? What was the logic behind needing 1,000 cases and now only 500? Sorry if it seems like I'm being overly critical; It just caught me off guard when I refreshed the page and we jumped to...
Paul's Hardware has another video featuring the Sentry 2.0. It's not really focused on the case other than that he's building a system in each of the two colors. I just wanted to point it out since it has some more footage of the gray color. It doesn't have any benchmarks or anything in it; just...
Yeah, I hadn't watched the video yet when I posted it. It does make me wonder why he thought using air from inside the case was the better orientation. I imagine he just didn't think about it. I'm also hoping for some more tests with an AIO to see some comparisons with the test you did and Paul's.
It was the most noticeable at idle since my fans were spinning identically between the two cases. Less GPU/CPU heavy games tended to have a slightly less temperature improvement but the fans were also spinning slightly slower. Games that had my gpu at 100% saw no temperature or fan difference...
ZombiPL and SaperPL sent me a case to review as well. I'm not fancy enough to have a video, but I'll put my review below.
Disclaimer:
I received this case to review for free, but the following review is my own opinion/thoughts and hasn’t been influenced by this. Since you aren’t able to buy...
I found a countdown that some people might be interested in... http://zaber.com.pl/sentry/ It ends at 18.00 CET on April 1st. I'm sure ZombiPL and SaperPL will have more updates as the time gets closer.
I'm just excited that it seems like significantly more people are able to review the case. I also don't actually know if he got a case; I'm making an educated guess.
Except he didn't install the riser bracket correctly. It's not supposed to loosely sandwich the riser pcb without any support...
Yeah, I'm happy that Linus looked at this case since it will get a lot of publicity, but it feels like a half hearted effort for as much as he likes the case. I don't understand why he kept refusing to look at the manual. Linus also mentioned that Kyle (Bitwit) has the case as well. ZombiPL and...
Linus is doing a livestream with Sentry 2.0 right now fyi. .
edit: He's doing a great job of showing why you should read manuals instead of just winging it.
I finally got around to reading the online manual and have some grammar/wording suggestions. I couldn't determine a good way to show what the original text was, but in general the red text is an inserted word/letter with multiple red words replacing several words. Overall the manual seems easy...
I'm going to wait till some reviews come in before purchasing this, but I'm really excited. Hopefully it outperforms my Lp53 by a tangable amount.
I wonder when Dondan's NDA lifts. It would be good to hear some of his thoughts.
These changes look great. I agree with cutting out the quad drive mounts and pci covers; it's just wasted material and weight for most people. Are the dimensions the same as V1.0? Are any of the 2.0 pieces going to be backwards compatible?
Also this was posted on April Fools day for the United...
It looks like he posted an update on his A4 V2 kickstarter campaign on February 4. My guess is that he's really busy dealing with shipping out cases. It would be nice if he actually told us that though.
Ok, good. Some users have forced the PCIe riser to fit the other way which could damage the riser. It sounds like you didn't do that though.
Since you put the riser card in correctly, it doesn't seem like the riser would cause problems unless it was damaged some other way, or is faulty. I don't...
I'm not 100% sure what could be going on, but I'll give my best attempt to help.
How did you insert the PCIe riser? sliding it from the GPU area to the CPU area and plugging in the riser into the PCIe slot; or plugging the riser into the PCIe slot and pushing it into the GPU area?
Do the cards...
I wonder if you should include a link in the manual to the assembly timelapse video you made for YouTube. That's what I reviewed before I assembled my sentry and the only mistake I ended up making was screwing in the usb 3.0 before plugging in the PSU power.
I'm pretty happy that you do an update every week even if it's nothing special. Too many crowdfunding campaigns won't update for weeks/months because they don't have anything 'exciting' to share, which leaves backers feeling out of the loop. I'd prefer an update each week letting everyone know...
I have a 950 and I'm pretty sure my thermal pads are touching my case. If someone can tell me what program would display the temperature that it's at, I can get some results.
Just out of curiosity, why would you reduce these? Is the idea that the extra width is wasted, and that the fin spacing is too tight to allow proper airflow?
I have an SF600 in my sentry right now and it fairly regularly starts up its fan at a low rpm and then shutting off again while just sitting at the desktop. SF450 owners will likely experience the same result. I think hot air gets trapped inside of it since there isn't any extra airflow to force...
Haha, yeah, I'm definitely not an expert on thermodynamics and didn't put too much thought into it. That definitely makes more sense now that I take a moment to think about it.
That's really only a difference of running at like 100rpm less on the copper version. I'm not saying that I wouldn't buy a copper version. I'm buying this regardless of copper vs aluminum. I'm just surprised to find that the temperature difference isn't a consistent value.
Interesting. I thought the difference between alu vs cu would have been consistent and not dependent on the fan speed. I might not be so confident on the desire for copper after all. Thanks for the preview.
That might cause noise problems. Maybe it would be wide enough to supply a sufficient air supply to the fan, but it just makes me think that you'd end up with the noise problem that coolers like the C7 has. It's hard to say since it is wider than the C7 fan thought so I'm not 100% confident that...
