good, small, powerful mini-itx case (non-black)

REALAN - great aluminium cases. Otherwise any 10L cube, like cooltek coolcube or so. I have one here with a gtx 960, and it works great, not to mention how good it looks.

    Just another (Sandwich) ITX

Thank you for your clarification. It might be so in theory, but not in my case. My brick has a max output of around 100-110W - I tested it: anything above this limit yields random crashes, probably because of instable voltage. That's why I advised meanwell.

    mini EPM (eco-power-multimediastation)

I had some time today, and finally did it: reversed both fans into push mode. You were right: temps are much better and there is even room for a mild overclock (max 72°@3.9Ghz after an hour or so). The Noctua fan remains surprisingly quiet. Only problem left to be solved is dust. No way I'm...

    Just another (Sandwich) ITX

100w on 12v is min for a quad. Check out my build thread: i ran into troubles with a g3258 cpu and 120w psu. Also be careful with efficiencies: my 120w brick is only 83% efficient, which means roughly 100w. Go for meanwell if possible.

    mini EPM (eco-power-multimediastation)

Actually, the case is pretty much open on every side. When the 140mm fan blows, you can feel the air draw all around the case the case. I guess air intake is not a problem. As of directing the flow, I thought on a caes this size, it would not be of matter. Maybe you re right, and there is just...

    mini EPM (eco-power-multimediastation)

Since the vga bios flash, things finally seem to work. No more blue screen / random crashes. The last annoying thing is the noctua fan beeing too loud. I'm really disappointed by noctua. Always expensive, and still quite loud. No OC possible at all, since the cpu would reach 70° under (heavy)...

    low-power webserver

I have a zyxel nsa325v2 with a custom debian installed. It's originally a NAS, but with 1.6Ghz(!) marvell cpu and 512mb ram, there is plenty of room for a mini server. costs about 50€ in europe; plenty of second hand available. Not as powerfull as most product listed here, but wayyyyy...

Thank you for you input. Good point: was my first thought. Than I read some test about powered pci-e riser, showing that it's only relevant when 2 or more cards are plugged in. My Riser is only 15cm long, and should not have that many power losses. Anyway: I orderer another riser (4th!), just in...

    mini EPM (eco-power-multimediastation)

First lead in my investigation about those random crashes: vga bios. Some time ago, I flashed the gtx 750 ti to raise the TDP to 70W, which was supposed to prevent fps drops under full charge. Well it turns out 70(gpu)+53(cpu)+2.5(hdd/sdd) > 100W limit of my psu (120W with 83% efficiency). Even...

    8.5lt High-End Gaming Machine = Easy?

If you add 1.5 liter, there a plenty of cheap options available. All those "cube" design easily fit a small gtx 970, which is plenty of horsepower for any gaming.

Are there any 120mmX120mm radiators? (Lian Li 351 water cooling plan)

Are you sure you need this ? There was a thread a couple of years ago showing that even 140mm rads make little sens in comparison to high end air coolers...

    mini EPM (eco-power-multimediastation)

I'd say around 2,5Kg; should not be a problem for vesa mounts. Putting the fan inside is tricky, but possible. Check out the "sandwich itx" thread. For me, the limiting factor is the cpu cooler. I already managed to keep it beneath 30mm and leave enough room between the cpu and the gpu for...

    mini EPM (eco-power-multimediastation)

It's quite possible to hide the fan cable by drilling a small hole (2.5mm) through the frame of the fan. As I wasn't sure about the final config, I did not do it yet, but it's planned for the future. For the rest: I have a 2 year old daughter, which keeps trying out everything, including...

    mini EPM (eco-power-multimediastation)

Nope. The prolimatech is in exhaust mode, pulling hot air OUT of the case. Push mode makes little sense in this config, and would dust the entire box in no time. CPU fan is also in pull mode. Cooling the gpu first could work when watching vids; under gaming load, the gpu tends to get very hot...

    mini EPM (eco-power-multimediastation)

I doubt your first setup would work. "Sucking through the hole also venting the gpu" means gpu atop the cpu. This creates a nice little heat stack, which you'd have to remove. These 3L systems are so small, if you cramp a 50W CPU and a 40W GPU, you have to get the hot air outside. If you use a...

Let's have a look at this tiny beast. Top view: mainly the prolimatech fan in exhaust (pull) mode held by 4x 20mm M4 chromed screws - all nicely centered! Back view: WIFI-antennas, Prolimatech cable ... and and mini-HDMI to HDMI adapter! The secret to a clean sandwich setup: use a card with a...

    mini EPM (eco-power-multimediastation)

Hello, This project was born out of some frustration over intel's desktop chip policy. I built the mini EPW hoping to fit a good Broadwell CPU, and OC it to death thanks to good cooling abilities. Than, when chipzilla finally decided to sell some broadwell cpus, there were only 2 available, and...

Pico PSU Requirements for an SFF build

Should work, but will get hot. Most bricks are designed to handle 80-90% load max. If you push it, the thing gets damn hot. But if you add a small 60mm fan, you can squeeze out the 110% you need without problems.

Antec ISK-110 and AMD 7870k Build

I've seen lots of mods with the isk-110, and none of them worked as expected. Airflow is just terrible on this case. You can somewhat improve it by switching to a pico-psu and removing some cable cluttering, but the way the openings are designed is just weird. Anything over 65W tends to...

Trying something similar over here; how much cpu cooler clearance do you have ? How much between the 120mm and the vga heatsink ? Any chance of stacking a 30mm cpu cooler, the vga + heatsink and finally the slim 120mm fan wihtin 80mm ? Thanks a lot for your help.

    Project H20-Micro a Watercooled 3 Liter system with GTX970

Awesome reply: thanks a lot; the latter build is approximately what I'm try to emulate ! So with a gtx 750 ti, 4x will be totally fine. Will try to post some pics once it's done :) I found a french site dealing with pci-e 3.0, and they found a difference of about 1-2% only with gtx 980 cards. So...

Hi everyone. Inspired by the OPs awesome work, i've decided to do some testing myself, just for my home sys. Right now, I don't fully get how pci-e works. For an instance, why THIS ? Why do we even have such large pci-e slots, if only the first 32 pins are used ? Perhaps QinX (or someone else...

    Project H20-Micro a Watercooled 3 Liter system with GTX970

CAN'T break it. Basically, it would be nice if the device could sustain a fall of about 80cm. Besides the ouya, all gaming devices nowadays I know about are way to sensitive. Where is the SNES you could throw against the wall ?

I like this one too - but honestly, I couldn't care less about the exterior looks. Just make it sturdy and kids-proof. With your watercooled-fully-stuffed-no-hollow-room-left-design, it seems actually possible, and would definitely beat all other devices currently on the market. Keeping screws...

    Coolcube AIR - Cooltek/Jonsbo

I'll probably do a dust check next week, and try to post a pic from the short sata cable. Not sure about 3M tapes, but the one I used tend to leave stains or even bleach the the plastic. On metal, this is no issue, though cheap tape will peal off due to heat expansion/contraction over time.

    case recommendations (mITX)

Hi, you may want to checkout my coolcube AIR mod; fits your needs (2x 3,5" hdd on the bottom, ssd taped to the top) and is way smaller than most cases seen here. I run an i5 3570k at 4.2Ghz, but an easily push to 4.8 on air with that setup. EDIT: just saw the MSI Card: this one would NOT fit.

    Coolcube AIR - Cooltek/Jonsbo

Yep .On alu it's awesome, but I wouldn't recommend it on plastic cases. Also, I had to find a short sata cable (5cm!) to fit the ssd.

    Coolcube AIR - Cooltek/Jonsbo

I used this cheap plastic dust filter from ebay. It's simply held between the case front and the bequiet fan, using the same M3 screws holding the fan. There is about 1.5mm clearance between the blades and the filter. It reduced the airflow by up to 1/4 according to my estimates, but does a...

    Coolcube AIR - Cooltek/Jonsbo

As time passed, I grew more and more unhappy with my last Chieftec Build. The main reason was the really annoying U side pannel, the stupid handles, and dust, dust, dust. It seemed to pile up just everywhere, at a rate I never saw before. Since the case had openings pretty much everywhere, a...

On aliexpress, you can find 300-350W open frame 12V adapter for $18. I still think the best comination is thin mini itx + 12V dc adapter. Yes, cable/connector modding will be required, though if he has enough orders, meanwell could do this for free.

    Project H20-Micro a Watercooled 3 Liter system with GTX970

Thank you for the update, interesting stuff. 1. +1 for the Gigabyte card. USB 2.0 is great for alternative boot (I'd put a dual boot linux/bsd anyway) that do not have usb 3.0 support, although nowadays it's mostly irrelevant. Kb/Mouse will fill those nicely! Although I must confess I'd miss...

DAN A4-SFX: The smallest gaming case in the world

Followed this one from the start, but must say I'm not thrilled by the way the design took. Given the trend in modern cpu/gpu development, I don't think gpu boards longer than 21cm will be required for a great gaming experience in the future. The 970 is a very good example right now. And if you...
