I've noticed the Toshiba in my Dell (stock config) workstation has always run hot... I fully expect for it to fail prematurely.
Whether that temperature is within manufacturer specs or not, it's waaaay to hot in my opinion.
I'd throw a heatsink or something on it if I cared about the drive...
Not unless you've got a specific task to accomplish.
Otherwise, just "get your learn on" with what you have.
The concept is the same on a 100.00 server and a 30,000 server!
Enjoy!

Contrary to what the MSM reports I watched an interview with Julian Assange where he basically admitted that it was DNC staffer Seth Rich that leaked the e-mails.
Assange will never give exact details about any of his sources however in the same interview was adamant that it wasn't the...
You will absolutely LOVE Stablebit DrivePool & Stablebit Scanner.
If you use a couple SSD's as cache drives your speed limit is pretty much the limit of your network connection.
I think you will enjoy the control that file level duplication provides, especially in such a large installation...
I second the LSI 9211-8i -- I've had wonderful luck with these cards.
You can't go wrong at that price range.
jackofalltrades Don't be afraid. Dive right in that's how we all learn!

On dual CPU machines pay close attention to WHERE on the board (which slots) you insert your memory in.
The total amount of memory you have will determine which slots to use.

There is an option for that actually. When you first install the Google Voice app it asks you that exact question. (It's easy to miss)
I'm not sure how to toggle that option without reinstalling but I know you can... just can't remember how at the moment. If you can't find it, uninstall...
Google Voice will use any internet connection available. If your wi-fi is turned on it will always use that first like anything else.
If you want to double check make a call using Google Voice to another phone and see which number shows up... your carrier number or your G-Voice number. You...
It's a good time to pick up older (Xeon?) servers.
Because they tend to use more power than the newer stuff you can get some pretty capable machines at a good price.
Many companies tend to toss the machines as in the long run they save $$ in electricity by upgrading the machines even though...
Get a free Google Voice number install the app on your phone and use that. 100% free Wi-Fi calling right on the phones you already have.
Heck, I don't even use my VZW number anymore since G-Voice allows for so much more control.....
If you must emulate a POTS line do as mmettin said and...
bogchop --- What happens when you plug the drive directly into the card bypassing the backplane on the 4224?
I doubt the 8's are supported on the LSI and not the 10's. I'd venture to guess that LSI just hasn't updated their documentation.

Sounds like you are on the right track with Stablebit DrivePool. Just add Stablebit Scanner to your system and you'll almost certainly be fine.
Since you have physical copies of your media I wouldn't waste the hard drives - I would just rely on duplication along with Scanner to keep my data...
It sounds like your experience has been just about exactly the same, actually. :)
5-8 years is a LONG, long time for 24/7 moving parts!
The one thing I have noticed is that the enterprise (10-15k RPM) drives are not to be trusted after three years of typical 24/7 data-center usage. Three...
As someone mentioned above, and what has been by 30+ years of experience with mechanical drives is if it works for a year or two it will most likely work for a long time, long time.
Heck, usually if it lasts a few months out of the box the same applies, actually....
Just sayin'

I've got 15~ HGST 4TB drives that are going on 3.5 years that have had zero failures so far.
The other 30 or so 4 & 8TB drives are all Seagate, all about the same age except for the 8TB drives which are right at two years.
I've had three of the Seagate 4TB drives fail and zero failures on the...
It's been a couple of years since I used any of the AVTECH products and I was using their older blue units. The software looks to be the same though.
It's simple and WORKS.
I can't imagine their newer stuff has any issues and I will be purchasing AVTECH again when my already half dead...
I know this is quite the old post but in the spirit of answering your question for anybody else doing research:
AVTECH - Tempager/Room Alert -- https://avtech.com/
&
GEIST - ITWatchDogs / Weathergoose - http://www.itwatchdogs.com/
I prefer the AVTECH Products personally.

We can't be talking about the age of a power supply in YEARS. Just too many variables. We need to be addressing the age in HOURS.
With that said, the next two questions are:
What kind of an environment has the PSU been living in?
At how much of its rated capacity has it been running?
A high...

Plex
It doesn't get too much better than this.
Although I did purchase an open box 30 inch TCL Roku TV for my travel trailer and I was pleasantly surprised at how the Plex app for Roku has matured.
Good stuff!

If getting an SSD is out of the question you might want to think about adding another mechanical hard drive or two. (even one that you might have lying around) and striping them. (RAID0)
You can do that either via software or hardware depending on your motherboard.
Just another option to...
Bottom line: Keep your drives cool  and they will last.....
....a very, very long time.
I've been doing this for 30 years and it always plays out the same every time regardless of the brand of the drive.
Secondly, it sounds like a bunch of you would benefit from Stablebit...
Just ran across this..

In the car with the family I use the hotspot from my phone, repeated by the Wi-Fi Stor which normally has a 2TB external drive connected to it with our media.
The wife and kid connect their tablets/laptops to the wireless network from the Wi-Fi store and it's a done deal.
On trips there...
This will surely assist!
Plug a HD and/or SD card in and you're off to the races.

With Scanner, did you check out any of the advanced settings?
I had to enable "UNSAFE" for it to read SMART from my Highpoint 2740 and "NO WMI" for it to read from my LSI 9240.
Good luck in your quest!

Ahh. Screenshot. Good idea!
This is Stablebit's Scanner.
If you check it out, be sure to check out the FAQ as there are a couple tweaks that need to be set depending on your controller/s.
