This just makes me laugh at the whole mindset behind open source. Such lofty aspirations and such noble motivations, but god help those who make money from it.
Asus V3800 TNT2 Ultra 32Mb. My first ever 3D card and still a legend. Biggest jawdrop moment was installing my Radeon 8500 to play UT2003
My current X800 pro is also sweet, but even with its awesome performance, the jawdrop factor was not as big as with the 8500. The jawdrop from it came from...
Well, I can see the point the thread starter is trying to make, but I think it's pointless to argue about the issue. Both AMD and intel systems will deliver good performance.
My take on it is that the Intel user who is not an extreme gamer is not going to worry about ekeing out the last frame...
Well, I got a HIS X800 Pro with the ICQ2 (Silencer rev4) on it, and I found that even with the better HSF, it got too hot when OC'd, especially when my room got hot. Those coolers are designed to keep the card in normal limits at stock speeds...same with the ICQ2...wasn't meant for OCing, it's...
Two things:
1) It's a pity BFG is nVidia-only. With such good client care, they can only double their sales by selling ATi too.
2) It's a pity BFG is not widely represented in the the rest of the world. Down here in South Africa, we usually have to contend with chiwanese stuff. Not that...
Mwohohohooo that's fucking insane. Good job! Wheredya get the chair from? Others mentioned the lack of a tissue box holder...you can use the map pocket on the seatback :D
Loved Priv1 and Priv2. I'll be downloading this boiky.
Another vote for bringing back the good space sims. Freelancer was such a bitter disappointment.
"You're new here, arent ya" Every fucking time. WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?!?!?!
I was a die-hard nVidia fan since my 1st 3d card, the TNT2. But then I got a Radeon 8500 which, when overclocked, could easily run with a Ti4600.
nVidia lost the plot, and my trust, with the FX line. I was ready to buy nVidia with the 'release' of the 6800ultra, but when ATI release the X800...
You ARE going to overclock. Trust me on this. You're going to try it at least once and see it's great and stick with it.
My vote goes to the Neo2, simply because it's the only s939 board I have experience with, and I'm extremely fond of it.
It depends on the modules themselves. If the total number of ram modules (the chips themselves) exceeds 16, i think, it's only going to work in single channel...although I'not shure of the specifics. Dont have my manual with me. RTM! :)
Are you using WIN2000?
AFAIK it won't work with WIN2k, you have to create a combined install CD for WIN2K.
Correct me if I'm wrong, fellers.
You shouldn't even be asking that question. Too hot is where the silicon is damaged and you can dump your shiny new vidcard in the trash.
Increase your cooling! Your aim is to keep it as cool as possible, not to see how hot it will remain safe at.
My Winchester 3000+ at default speeds (1.8Ghz) is about 15% faster than my Barton 3200+ was at 2.2Ghz, using the exact same RAM and video card. (3DMark2001 : ~23000 versus ~20000)
You could "calc-imate" it by saying the A64 gets about 12.7 points per MHz, versus the 9 points per MHz for the...
What I found particularly amusing was:
Yeah! Work that CPU, baby! What a bunch of amateurs. Still, it's interesting to see the difference at such high quality settings. TO be fair, they DID run the games at lower resolutions, but still. What a stupid statement.
FX55 > everything.
I need some encouragement to do it. I don't really need it, as it runs just fine and OC's very nicely and stays cool. Just want to do it seeing as I'm crazy.
Still running the retail boxed HSF.
I'll reserve judgement until I see real world benefits gained from real-world apps without them having been specially compiled....
I've had enough hype, thanks. Show me the money.
Yeah, I have a 3000+ Winnie, and that higher mult would come in rather handy. Because with the 3000+ you're down a mult, it's imperative that you get a board that will give you a high FSB, along with good memory that you can keep the timings low on, otherwise the board is going to run out of...
Reason it doesn't come right at a bigger res is because he was lazy and used an embossing filter (like KPT 5 Shapeshifter) to create the 3D edges on the 'flames'. Doesn't work too well with very large images unless you know what you're doing and tweak it properly.
I never measured temps, but I can tell you that the baseplate was painfully hot when touching it with a fingertip before. Now, it's just lukewarm, even after an extended bout of gaming.
