I want to test out input lag on a LCD I own. I've been meaning to test it out with a CRT via the display clone method, but I'm having trouble finding a free timer application that is confirmed to be reliable at 120hz.
Can you recommend me anything?
I've been meaning to get the xl2411z as it seems like the best as well as cheapest 1080p 144hz solution. However, it lacks for a DP port and it seems DVI inputs are being phased out in the near future.
I'm worried that I'll have to resort to adapters in the future and that they may cause...
Actually, this is something he is aware of and precisely why he wants a smaller screen. Due to his eyesight, he likes to be very close to the screen, so he figured that a smaller dot would be beneficial.
In the end though, he really overestimated the size of a 24'' screen so I convinced him to...
Apart from vertical pivot, he doesn't really need any special features and you won't find a 5000:1 contrast ratio IPS in the first place -- hell, it's difficult enough finding a VA that goes past 3000:1.
We'll probably get the p2217h. At the end of the day, if he's really adamant about 22'' and...
Oh, I've got a 27'' with room to spare. This IPS is for my father and he really wants a 22'' for some reason. I tried to dissuade him, but he's convinced he wants a smaller screen.
I'm aware of this. Display lottery becomes very hard the smaller you go because QA is obviously going to be more...
I haven't followed the scene closely for a while so I don't know if any advancements have been made in the past two years or so. I'm looking for something in the 200 to 250 € range. Can you help me out?
I'm not a fan of iphones in the least, but my sister got one and now she needs a charger for the holidays. Saw this, seems cheap, thinking about buying one for her since I'm about to place an order on that site for a different item anyway. What do you think...
Some S27c750p units have brighter blacks than others. Mine in particular unfortunately seems to be in the brighter batch. I never measured, but my VA Sony Bravia definitely has deeper blacks than my Samsung. Definitely still ahead of any TN or IPS panel, but it's something to be vary of. I think...
The viewing angle cone is just a fact of life with VA screens, especially on a huge model such as this one. If you move far enough, the cone eventually disappears.
This never bothered me with my screen and as I understand, BenQ new VA's have a less pronounced cone. It's not actively...
You're gonna laugh at yourself when you realize that it's physically impossible to see every part of the screen from the same angle.
OP, as for your issue, unfortunately, there's no objective truth. It will depend on your taste. I would personally go for what gives you overall deeper blacks and...
Why hello there, U2312HM sufferer.
When it comes to a "gaming monitor", you have to define what "gaming" means to you.
If it's Quake or similar, you shouldn't worry about display quality, any 120hz TN panel will serve your needs better because you're after raw performance. Nobody plays...
It will vary depending on what you're doing. I don't think you can possibly remove aspect ratio from the distance you're watching, making the study moot. If you sit in front of a huge monitor, it won't really matter much what the aspect ratio is, seeing as your peripheral vision will be busy...
It took me a while before I even noticed it. These are the big bad vertical bands everyone's talking about? If you're already dealing with inconsistent VA gamma, this is really nothing in comparison. Hell, even the subtle reflections of a light matte coat can be more obtrusive than this.
I...
That's actually quite intriguing. I'd like to hear an explanation.
Speaking of odd things -- Whenever I run this Lagom test, my S27C750P emits a very high pitched whine:
http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/clock_phase.php
The more of the screen it covers as I'm scrolling, the louder it gets...
Not all screens suffer from pretty obvious manufacturing defects however. My screen is completely free from any uniformity issues visible to the naked eye. OP's screen on the other hand has a pretty obvious blot that clearly shouldn't be there. Granted, I own an AMVA panel and they're a lot...
There's really nothing specific you should look out for in a "gaming monitor". 144/120hz monitors are marketed as "gaming monitors" because gaming experience does benefit from higher refresh rates. PC gaming that is -- you'll see zero benefit on your PS4.
For a vast majority of people...
It's likely a graphics card issue. S2340L connects via HDMI which means you'll have to do the following:
http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1729604
I really wanted a glossy screen and S2440L being a VA panel was exactly what I was looking for. Then I found out about the utterly...
Whatever they did is quite likely completely irrelevant for you. Using ICC profiles and settings others made is rarely ever useful to your unit in particular.
Your laptop screen looks way, way, way too blue in both photos you posted. The 2460 maybe looks slightly yellow, but it's a photo so I can't really tell.
If you find your laptop display acceptable, your standards are extremely skewed and you'll need a long break from that to be able to really...
Depending on your GPU and drivers, setting HDMI Black Level to low can cause your color range to compress significantly resulting in uniform black crush throughout the screen.
The VA "black crush" effect is just a byproduct of the gamma shift. All the color/luminosity information is still...
According to OP, BenQ has the exact same thing, only it's longer than Dell's.
Also, in my country, you get a "total satisfaction guarantee" on any product up to 7 days after purchase and 14 days if you bought online. I understand many countries have the same.
Dell's "Premium Panel Guarantee" is a huge misconception circulating around forums. You're guaranteed a zero bright pixel policy, not dead pixel policy. They only let you return if you have 6 dead (dark) pixels or more. That's pretty standard among manufacturers and nothing to write home about.
Agreed. IPS screens may have a slight edge in color accuracy, but if the image feels more vivid and "there" on a VA panel, that's gonna count for more for people who like to watch movies and play video games. I think a lot of people would appreciate being rid of IPS glow too.
I agree with this. I think most general users would be more happy with VA over IPS if they were actually aware of them. There's way too much hype around IPS though and most people just want to get a "good screen" and get it over with without doing any research.
I was using a Philips 109p4 (and still do as I prefer it for Photoshop) exclusively for a very long time and getting a PWM-free LCD was a godsend for my health. Eye strain reduced drastically, headaches disappeared, face no longer felt flushed and the odd feeling of having something stuck in my...
Just want to say that:
1) IPS glow is absolutely not blown out of proportion. It's as intrusive as the various youtube videos suggest. If anything, it's not mentioned enough.
2) I have zero backlight bleeding on my 27'' screen. It's a 1080p, granted. This thread implies 1440p monitors...
You could be having a reaction to hard matte coating. I found my experience with the U2312HM terrible. The matte coat robbed all vibrancy from colors. It also sparkled -- hard. The PWM flicker made everything feel excruciatingly eye-poke bright, even though it never looked bright. Even manually...
