    ESXi NFS mount I/O error

Guess what. Almost exactly TWO years later, I got the same error message (NFS Mount I/O Error in ESXi) while upgrading my NFS server from wheezy to jessie. Did some searching, this was the second hit in google. Wahey, my own post, so I tried it out... and nope. of course, I didn't modify...

    Unusually slow hard disk

@staticlag, I understand that Reallocated_Sector_Ct and Current_Pending_Sector are generally the attributes to look out for on mechanical drives. But how about SSDs? I'm a bit nervous with my Crucal M500 SSD because it already shows these after a few months. Are they of concern? 1...

    Unusually slow hard disk

One of my hard disks is being excruciatingly slow, and I can't quite figure out why. Hope you can help. How slow is it? # hdparm -Tt /dev/sdm /dev/sdm: Timing cached reads: 15042 MB in 2.00 seconds = 7526.71 MB/sec Timing buffered disk reads: 26 MB in 3.26 seconds = 7.99 MB/sec...

what happens after data corruption on a single device zpool?

Excellent, and many thanks to omniscence for catching my mistake. To answer what I'd set out to find at the start: All of the above is true.

No, didn't. Argh, that looks right!

what happens after data corruption on a single device zpool?

You're right that the file data is cached, so the error isn't detected by mdsum until after i did zfs unmount and mount. In my later tests, I used zpool scrub instead, with no difference. It always seems to hang. I've tried to put my vdisk on / (ext4). Same results for me... stumped.

what happens after data corruption on a single device zpool?

@omniscience. Oh! your results do look better than mine. What are you running? I'm on debian wheezy: # uname -a Linux storage 3.2.0-4-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 3.2.46-1 x86_64 GNU/Linux # dpkg -l zfs*|grep ^i ii zfs-dkms 0.6.1-1~whee amd64 Native ZFS filesystem kernel modu ii...

what happens after data corruption on a single device zpool?

I re-ran my test, with these differences: - set failmode=continue - one instance of a one-byte data corruption, instead of 2 instances of 2048 byte corruption - used zpool scrub to detect the data corruption rather than just reading the files # dd if=/dev/zero of=/run/shm/vdisk bs=1024768...

what happens after data corruption on a single device zpool?

I found this answer on Server Fault (http://serverfault.com/questions/381910/is-zfs-disk-rotting-protection-automatic-and-built-in), which basically says that metadata has more than one copy, and can self heal. Whereas file data does not unless we specify redundancy options. Right now: - I...

what happens after data corruption on a single device zpool?

Thanks TCM. Failmode is currently set to wait. Would setting failmode=continue help? From my reading of the manpage, - writes would block. So I wouldn't be able to restore the files from backup - reads may be made to healthy devices. but I only have one device on this pool, and it seems...

what happens after data corruption on a single device zpool?

I'm wondering what happens if i have a single device zpool, and silent data corruption occurs. Does anyone know? What I'd expect is - data corruption is detected. - it can't be healed automatically since there is no redundancy What I'd ideally like to happen is - all files that are not...

Flashing IT firmware to Dell H200 on X9SCM

Thanks. I'm actually tempted to go with Stanza's idea (that the problem is an Internal Tape Adapter card with insufficient RAM/ROM space). The Dell 6GBPSAS.FW that flashes perfectly is 865KB, whereas the LSI IT firmware are ~ 620KB and always fail, and the one LSI P07 IR firmware that succeeds...

    ESXi NFS mount I/O error

I'm scratching my head as to why ESXi refuses to mount the nfs datastore with an I/O error. Here are the details. From the ESXi ssh shell, - "vmkping 192.168.9.249" (the nfs server) succeeds. - "nc -z 192.168.9.249 2049" succeeds. - "esxcfg-nas -a -o 192.168.9.249 -s /z/vmdatastore nas"...

Flashing IT firmware to Dell H200 on X9SCM

Of the 4 cards pictured in your post at http://forums.overclockers.com.au/showthread.php?t=1045376, it looks most like the H200. Two internal ports. RAM chip only at the front though. I'm currently running the Dell 6GBPSAS FW (ie, IT). With this firmware, the adapter configuration does not...

Flashing IT firmware to Dell H200 on X9SCM

Hi Stanza. Yes, I'm currently on the Dell A10 IT firmware. From what I've read, I need to erase the firmware (sas2flsh -o -e 6) before I can move on to the LSI IT. I'm at my wits end because - I can't use the DOS sas2flsh.exe which many have had success with, due to PAL initialization...

Flashing IT firmware to Dell H200 on X9SCM

Thanks Abula. That's a nice collection of tools for the M1015. I've tried a bunch of ideas from the page: - Ran the "Shell_Full.efi" to see if a fuller shell than my X9SCM's default EFI shell would make a difference. [Nope] - I wasn't able to google any references of people using the...

Flashing IT firmware to Dell H200 on X9SCM

Good idea. Wonder why I didn't think of that! Checking... Basic googling suggests that Dell H200, 6Gbps SAS HBA and LSI 9211-8i all use mptsas driver in Linux. So in Linux at least, there should be no difference in driver stability. LSI 9211 specs are at...

Flashing IT firmware to Dell H200 on X9SCM

Thanks for the tips guys. I can't take screenshots because my X9SCM is the one without IPMI. But basically, the sas2flash -list looks something like this (picture from Stanza's post elsewhere), except for these differences: Firmware Product ID: 0x2713 (IR) Board Name: Int Tape Adapter...

Flashing IT firmware to Dell H200 on X9SCM

Unfortunately it does not. That LSI page has UEFI installers for P5, P8, P9, P15, P16. P15 and P16 give me the firmware fault or something about mfg page 2. P8 and P9 do not actually contain the sas2flash.efi file, and instead have a replacement text file saying that the forefront antivirus...

Flashing IT firmware to Dell H200 on X9SCM

By all accounts, the sas2flsh.exe versions that were posted by stanza and sovking are able to cross-flash. Unfortunately I can't run them in DOS due to the PAL error, and I don't have another motherboard to do the flash on. Thus I'm holding out for a similar EFI version of the utility -...

Flashing IT firmware to Dell H200 on X9SCM

I'm having problems flashing IT firmware to my Dell H200 card on my SuperMicro X9SCM. The card identifies itself as an Internal Tape Adapter instead of a Perc H200. Here's what I've tried: - Boot to DOS, use LSI's sas2flsh.exe from the P16 firmware to try to erase the firmware. "ERROR...

    advice for my all-in-one

Thanks _Gea. My preference for linux is because I've run it for 10+ years (lvm+raid, not zfs), so I'm more familiar with it. ZoL is certainly newer and may be sufficiently mature, or it may not be. Guess I'll give it a go. I'm willing to learn, and to crash-and-burn and switch storage OS...

    advice for my all-in-one

I'm pretty sure my build plan ain't perfect... Is it too long and rambling? Let me summarise the main questions here: 1. The CK23601 has 7 x 8087 and 2 8088. Can I use 2 x 8087 to dual-link with a Dell H200 (or IBM M1015), 5 x 8087 breakout cables to connect to my internal SATA drives, and...

    advice for my all-in-one

    advice for my all-in-one

I'm planning to consolidate my existing Atom-based netbook and Qnap NAS into an all-in-one box, and scavenge hardware from other systems along the way.
