xrandr (by itself, with radeon, and with amdgpu) does not seem to be able to read the extra edid information
xrandr with the closed source amd binary blob is able to read the extra edid information.
note: my timings are to three decimal places (556.730MHz) other peoples were to one...

Though thanks to what you posted I was able to use the timings to get 4096x2160 working for me (by adding the mode to xrandr), thanks.
Edit: So I bought this monitor and tested myself. At 2048x1920 I can not get 61Hz (or 70Hz or 75Hz) to work. The custom resolution can be created and used (the monitor does not prevent it), however the image is very distorted.

if i was to use the asus680-2gb (tripleslot) (11.8 " x 5.1 " x 2.3 ") i would have to take the shroud off and use two 120mm fans

if i was to use the asus680-4gb (dualslot) (10.7 " x 5.4 " x 1.7 ") i could still take the shroud off and use the two 120mm fans, OR leave the shroud on and...
So should we only be considering CPU coolers that push air up from the motherboard rather than towards the back? I know there is only a 92mm sized exhaust, but how much does the quality and size of cooler matter vs the location of the holes (intake and exhaust)?

I w ould imagine that for the cpu, if you had fans pushing out, the air would come in through the top, the new holes in the back, and even the 92mm. I'm not sure if you would want to push air out from gpu if you take the shroud of the you like necere did, but maybe.

yeah ok, if someone makes a card like this but with the tubes connectors at the end. that would be great, but then you'd still have to fit the tubes to the pump and then to rad... idk, i guess we wait and see what other people manage to fit in
