In perspective, it's for a backup rig for my Wife/friends over. My main rig has SLI 780s and my backup has a 7970.
I'd rather spend less than more as she doesn't care too much outside of needing a bit more of a cpu bump from an OC. A black based color schemed board would be best, as it's...
My current board, Asus p8 z68 won't overclock my i5 3570k in my backup rig. I assume this is because it's an older motherboard I had left over and it doesn't fully support IB (as in, it will run it but not push the multiplier past 34).
Not going to bother you with getting it to overclock...
3570k or 4670k? Almost the same performance with more heat and less overhead? No thanks.
What is wrong with your current 3570k that you feel it isn't up to your standards? Are you overclocking it and maxing core usage? If you need something heavier like a 3770k or 3930, I'd suggest that...
AMD reducing power consumption. You're funny.
I'd crossfire 7950s over a 7990. When I was buying my first 780, I got a 7990 before it. The whine was horrible and I was planning on a very quiet rig, so it just didn't fit for my needs so I refunded it.
Granted, I know some people don't...
Single card all day every day. Opens up upgrade paths on the cheap later on and gives you lower power consumption and heat for roughly the same power early on.
Should've bought a sapphire model to prevent that coil whine. mm mm good x)
Coil whine doesn't mean a card is on it's last limb, a quick google search will tell you that. Hell, even brand new 7990s have coil whine.
I bet someone offered you that deal. :P I'll offer you the same deal, interested? Heh, jokes aside, with CF you have to deal with profiles and games not scaling well with the 2 cards in addition to any run frame issues. Overclocking is at the mercy of the slower 7950, so if one's a dud then...
Newer generation + shadowplay (assuming nvidia ever gets that going) means I'd go for the 760 over the 660.
Are you against buying used? If budget is an issue, that would help a lot.
You're too kind, OP. Rude people like that who act entitled (oh look he's in sanfran, that's actually a pretty common attitude there sadly) and then give you neutral, plus the rub-ins of "oh your cpu is better than you thought", deserve NEGATIVES in my opinion.
As far as the trade goes, it...
