Yeah I don't get why anyone would be using the facial recognition when the iris scanner should be just as easy. Honestly I'm surprised samsung even included facial recognition.
I would normally totally agree with you on the overuse of the word "drone". In this case, the fact that the plane is autonomous makes it one of the few instances that the term drone actually applies.
An update on the article calls out Chinese gaming company QQ/Qzone as a likely producer of the video.
The article also mentioned that the island appeared to be Okinawa, not Taiwan.
The most interesting thing in this video for me is that it's the first time I've seen the Hololense's field of view depicted in a video.
The wide angle shots are still the normal camera view that we see from the presentations, but it's mixed in with point of view shots where the FOV is very...
I think the whole point of that camera set up is that with a traditional camera body and ultra-telephoto lens you have to either support the entire weight of the lens with your left hand (see the photo in the post above) or use a tripod. With the setup in the article, the weight of the lens is...
I'm curious as to what the studio's cut of various online sales/rentals is compared to how much they make from theatrical showings.
As far as I know, when movies show in theaters they start off around a 50/50 split between the distributor and the theater, and that ratio slowly shift towards...
When I read the brief description of the house, I actually recognized it from an article i saw when the place went on sale. Check out the photos:

If you look to the left of the artificial horizon intrument in the panorama picture you can see an "RSO Bailout" switch and "RSO Ejected" indicator.
It's a little hard to tell because of the angle, but man, you really can't see for crap out the front of that thing.
On a side not, I just found this cool Flikr album of high res photos of the comet. I think most of these are from the Rosetta and not from the lander, but some very cool pictures:

The portion of downtown LA with tall buildings isn't really that large, maybe 9 or 10 blocks wide. The city just kept spreading out instead of up. Southern CA just became pretty a solid metropolitan area from LA all the way down to the border, with just a couple breaks in developed areas like...
I was able to go to Dubai a couple years ago and stopped by the Sega Republic in the Mall of Dubai, the picture they chose for the article really doesn't do it justice. Here's a couple from when I was there:
This was the entrance to a motion theater, Star Tours kind of ride. I didn't...
I read about this when it was announced not too long ago and have already had one card upgraded with a chip. Still have yet to use it though. I'm pretty sure it's all in response to the Target stolen credit card info snafu a while back.
I'm actually not very familiar with chip and pin...
Yeah I was pretty disappointed with this. I knew something was up when it went straight to the race without going to the care and level selection menu. What's the point of winning races and collecting prize money if you can't buy any upgrades with it? FWIW, I beleive ALT-Enter switches to...
Ahh Battletoads... the rocket jetskis and the level you drop down a well hanging from a vine are all I remember about that game. I seem to remember that vine level in co-op being even harder because we always wound up punching each other.
Guys, I think that everyone here, including Steve, needs to read this article a second time. The author is NOT saying ANY of these things. He is saying:
He does not think that Steam machines will be too expensive, that FireTV will automatically fail, Gamestop will never go away, etc - but...
As far as I know, the new game does have a new engine that they built for the new consoles...

Yeah, if the US hadn't already sold Iran a bunch of F-14 Tomcats back in 1974, a few years before the Iranian Revolution..... oops...

Good details from Corsair on this one:
http://techreport.com/news/24797/corsair-sheds-light-on-haswell-psu-support-lists-compatible-units
C6/C7 mention here...
The issue is that a lot of current (and especially lower quality) PSU cannot regulate their voltage in no load scenarios, and Haswell drops the 12v2 rail minimum requirement to a tiny .05A. This only matters if you want to use the new C6/C7 sleep states. Turn off this function and any PSU...
And really, this is only an issue if you want to use the new C6/C7 sleep states. Otherwise any ATX PSU is fine, and a lot of current PSUs are already Haswell ready, including most newer Corsairs and Seasonics
I know the extra ports on the motherboard are for the PCIe power rail, but I don't think you can use those instead of the plugs on the GPU. I'm pretty sure they are just there to help stabilize the PCIe ports.
Agreed, the gold is still there, but more of just trimmings instead of the main...
So now I'm thinking...
Basically, it's not that Bitcoins are harder to mine because there are less of them out there (although that definitely is an increasing factor). It's because the work difficulty has gone up drastically as more and more systems come online as mining nodes in order to...
Big difference in a computer that's on all of the time but idling and a PC at 100% CPU GPU usage all of the time. I expect mining would be very similar to Folding in terms of power draw/heat generation.
This is what I'm not getting either, is it that difficult nowadays to mine at a...
Ok, you're right, I had to go look it up again.
From Wiki:
So now, I though the reason that people are saying it's too late to start mining is that the amount of coins you generate (currently trading at $119 USD ea) is not fast enough anymore to cover the cost of electricity consumed and...
Yes, essentially you are being paid to use your computer as a workhorse to verify everyone else's transactions. However, Bitcoin was designed with a finite cap on the number of Bitcoins that could be "discovered" (aka mined). As we approach that limit (it may have already passed), your chances...
PSUs need to be able to maintain stable voltage on 12v2 at only .05A draw (essentially no load) in order to use the new C6 and C7 power states. I forget what the old minimum 12v load was, but it was significantly higher.
more detail...
So I built this rig January of last year, but just recently upgraded the chassis from an Antec 1200 v1 to a CM StormStryker. The card on the bottom is a 9800GT I'm using for Physx.
