This seems to be the case with 90% of the displays Dell ships. It's like they just don't care. It's also one of the reasons I'm hesitant to pull the trigger on any Dell display--I'll likely have to exchange it multiple times before hopefully getting one that's acceptable. If this process goes on...
The only difference I can seem to find is the % color gamut on Dell's website.
The P2414H has 86% color gamut listed, while the P2314H only has 83% color gamut.
After reading the P2414H review at http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/dell_p2414h.htm, I was wondering if the P2314H shares the same qualities (e.g. PWM-free).
There's a $50 difference in price between the 2, but the only apparent difference is 0.8" of screen size, which makes me wonder why...
Is there a version without speakers?
I don't know what they were thinking putting speakers on these. It adds no value and simply cheapens the appearance.
Dell doesn't have a good warranty because they're a genuinely good company. They have a good warranty because it enables them to save money by cutting corners on quality control. They bet on most people not noticing or caring about defects. For the small percentage that do, it's a drop in the...
I'd wait. It's the wild west right now as far as quality control is concerned. Odds are you'll likely have to go through several replacements of whatever model you do choose to get one that doesn't have any glaring defects.
Anyone notice a pattern with all these Dell monitors? 2312hm, 2412m, 2713hm, and 2713h -- all have giant threads here with people going through replacement after replacement. Dell's quality control has declined considerably over the years.
Personally, I went through one defective 2412m and one...
No, I expect that a monitor with that price tag should be without defects on the first try. If you look at Dell's track record, that is not the case anymore. A monitor with those specifications is certainly worth the price, but not worth the inevitable hassle.
They have discovered it is cheaper...
$1499 is simply unacceptable considering the amount of hassle one will inevitably have to deal with to get a unit without defects. Dell needs to step up its quality control to justify that price.
Yes, that "whine" is the buzzing people are referring to. It'll change tone based on what colors are displayed. Open HardForum in one tab, then Wikipedia in another... if you switch between them back and forth you'll notice the whine change.
I really hope they improved their quality control with this one, because for their other models, it's looking like you need to go through at least a half-dozen replacements to get an acceptable one.
I disagree. For $650+, it should be inspected for issues. Dell's quality control is purposefully crappy because they are counting on most people "not noticing".
Exactly how I feel. Companies like Dell have realized it is cheaper to have lax quality control and a good return policy than it is to improve their quality control. They figure most people won't care about or notice glaring production defects.
Nothing I've tried to date is better than my cheap...
Having owned both, I'd say neither.
The 2412m has really obnoxious AG coating. I've read posts from people saying it was bad, but I assumed they were exaggerating since so many others seem to like the monitor. Boy was I wrong. On any light background, I can't help but constantly notice it...
I would like a 2412m without the aggressive AG. The 2413 is that and quite a bit more, but, as a result, it's way too expensive for someone who doesn't require that kind of color accuracy. If I'm going to spend over $700, I'm looking at 2560x1440.
After doing a little more research, it looks like the GW2450 is out the question since it apparently takes 5+ seconds to wake up from standby.
I was toying with the idea of getting the Dell 2713H, which doesn't have the cross-hatching problems of the 2713HM, but it still has the buzzing issue...
Id rather have a resolution that makes sense at that screen size. 27" is way too big for 1080p. Unfortunately, the BenQ website does not specify if the 24" variant is PWM-free as well.
