DAN A4-SFX: The smallest gaming case in the world

I think it's a better idea to just get a backpack, or possibly have a custom tailored bag like the one the NCASE M1 had.

DAN A4-SFX: The smallest gaming case in the world

Bad news! (well, for me anyways) :( It appears I won't be able to get my hands on an A4-SFX with the current time-frame :( I'm moving to college sometime in the next couple of weeks. (only for the first year) Then I'll be moving to a different country to continue my study for ~4 years. The...

I think Lian-Li is going to be the manufacturer of the A4-SFX. Lmao :D This is true, I currently have my rig inside a $20 case and it ain't complaining ;)

    Skull SSD show off build

It actually sounds kind of cool :) It also sound a bit expensive, unless you have access to CNC or someone who can make it for you at a discount. You could always get a small case like the Antec ISK 110, or that other case that had 350 in it's name. They're pretty basic. You just need to cut a...

DAN A4-SFX: The smallest gaming case in the world

You can't just ignore the materials of the case itself :p It's supposed to support GPUs <=295mm only. I would love to pair a Fury X with 5820k though :( Too bad AMD won't let manufacturers make custom air only coolers for it :(

DAN A4-SFX: The smallest gaming case in the world

Yeah the ASRock thing uses the PCIe part of Sata Express, and it has it's own USB 3.1 controller, so if anything it might be too bulky to fit inside the case. The Type-C port is much smaller, it's slightly bigger than the micro USB 2.0 port on many phones. I don't think it's Intel's fault, I...

    SFF build advice needed

If you want to use an optical drive and an AIO cooler, you'll need to cut off the 2.5" lips in the drive cage. You can still fit the SSD under the radiator or taped to the PSU though.

Yeah, hopefully it'll be easy enough to replace :)

DAN A4-SFX: The smallest gaming case in the world

There are not internal USB 3.1 headers though. It'll have to be a... ugh pass-through. Unless you're talking USB 3.0 Type C.

    The Ultimate mITX Beast

I'm sorry I can't answer that. I haven't tested it myself :( If there's enough space for you to fit everything maybe try the SX500-LG? It has a 120mm fan so it should be quieter, but I read it makes some noise because of the semi-fanless "feature" (the fan tries to start then stop etc, so...

    The Ultimate mITX Beast

Hey if you can afford it I recommend you get the SX500-LG or SX600G instead. I have the bronze non-modular 450w so it might not be the same, but mine runs like a vacuum. I think it would be a good idea to get a higher rated PSU and run it @50-80%ish load instead.

    An Oculus Rift SFF Build

I recommend you wait a bit for Skylake to come out. Most boards have 2 USB 3.1 ports and a bunch of 3.0 ports + internal 3.0 port headers. Not to mention m.2/u.2 and sata express(good for future-proof-ness). One drawback with Skylake though is that it's DDR4 so you won't be able to use the ram...

    [DAN A4] Mini-Beast

Maybe wait until further reviews on the SF600. There's nothing to assure you it will be quieter than Silverstone's SX500-LG. Oh and are those Crucial stick the very low profile ones? Those are the only DDR3 sticks I'd pick, especially for SFF. Off topic: but how is the HDD serving you? I've...

    Silverstone SX500-LG 500W Gold SFX-L

You should be fine, I have the 450w bronze (shorter than yours but shouldn't be very different) in a similar situation (in an ATX case). Been running 24/7 for the past couple of years, it's not giving in. :D

DAN A4-SFX: The smallest gaming case in the world

Good to know it works! :D Thanks for the test! You just reassured me :) I'm thinking I'll put a 5820k + Fury in my A4 :D One more thing just to be extra sure, the PSU you're using is the SX500-LG right? Where would the PSU go? Unless you're talking external like the original A4.

    AMD Project Quantum

Supporting different motherboard might be difficult as it seems the port cutouts are on the case, not to mention the rigid "pipes" that move the water to the tubes and then to the upper chamber. (I might be wrong about that second one though)

Now this could be big: R9 Nano

They showed the Fury X with a watercooler, anyone know if third party manufacturers will make models that are all air? (Want to put one in an A4-SFX) I'm hoping MSI and Gigabyte (something that's not so extremely long) make air cooled ones.

Using PSU fan for cooling in SFF: is less efficient better?

If the hot air get's inside the PSU it will raise the temperature and the fan will run faster the way I understand it. Oh and this. I have a C2Q+650 in a different case (atx, but small tower like the ones you find in schools) and the only fans I have are the ones on the CPU/GPU/PSU (one in...

Using PSU fan for cooling in SFF: is less efficient better?

I'm really not sure about this, but I think PSUs with bigger fans are better for this kind of thing. The added size of the PSU itself should help it handle the heat pretty well. Also IIRC running a PSU at a lower wattage than it's rated usually lands lower temps, so get something slightly overkill.

Using PSU fan for cooling in SFF: is less efficient better?

No, I think the fan spinning depends on the temprature. So a higher effeciency is better because it produces less heat in the PSU, thus having more headroom for the heat coming from your cpu.

MSI Nightblade M1 *GPU above motherboard*

I hope not. I mean no hate for people who like external PSUs, but if manufacturers see that as a good to "reduce" size. Then those of us who prefer internal PSUs are f***ed. I hope someone big (like Lian-Li or Silverstone) takes an interest in Dan's A4-SFX, and hires him (or pays him for the...

MSI Nightblade M1 *GPU above motherboard*

Doesn't matter who copied who, as long as it is not a blatant carbon copy more choices are good. Who knows, maybe after I get my A4 someone I know likes it but it's no longer on sale? It would be good to have alternatives then.

MSI Nightblade M1 *GPU above motherboard*

Yeah... Progress is a slow thing with these big names, but it's there at least. :o I do think most of the blame goes to the people who actually buy "Ultra Super Dope Gaming Gear", you know the people who buy stuff because they look "Super Awesome and Cool" or because they have LEDs all...

MSI Nightblade M1 *GPU above motherboard*

If it's like the ones in laptops (which it looks like) it should be adequate without overclocking, but it would be loud as... you know. I'm just grateful someone taking hints. Tired of big manufacturers copying each other. At least now they're copying decent designs :P

DAN A4-SFX: The smallest gaming case in the world

Yeah I know, I the first time I saw this layout was some dude over on OCN. I meant they're the first company to take inspiration. I think it's ASRock that have the M8 ;)

DAN A4-SFX: The smallest gaming case in the world

https://youtu.be/w02VXo4cBm0?t=8m3s Someone's taken inspiration. It's not quite the same, but I'm glad someone realized having the GPU parallel to the motherboard saves space. I really hope it does, my brother has a 770 Windforce card, and while it's not exactly the same cooler it is very quiet.

Sweet looking ITX case by Deepcool

I'm not quite sure, but I think I read somewhere that they had that patent. That's why their "Raven/Fortress" series was very popular, because you couldn't get anything like it.

Skylake-Based Z170 Gaming Mini ITX Motherboard

^This I want one drive that's on the motherboard itself so I can install the OS on it and have no messy cables. It's especially useful with modular power supplies since I won't need to plug any sata connectors. If I want more storage I can always use other drives with cables, but don't take my...
