Impressed a lot more than I anticipated. Not the way it looks (I don't like the white keys), but the way it feels to type on the thing. It's comfortable, the feedback is great and it's precise and very fast.
I'm a fan of laptop type keyboards in general, and so haven't yet decided to invest...
I just received an old machine that doesn't quite work. I need to upgrade it with some cheap components and want to know if everything will be fine and if you think it's cool.
What I got that I will use: Antec SLK3700 BQE case, Seasonic 420W modular PSU, two SATA HDDs and a DVD burner (even a...
I was the same as you, even thinking of mocking up something with an e-ink display. Then I got a Dell U2713HM and I can use it all day. It even has a "built in f.lux", kinda... You can change the color temperature settings of the monitor to make everything warm and cozy, yet looking a whole lot...
The GTX580 will run games at that resolution. I play games on the U2713HM and I'm very satisfied with the general lack of input lag and ghosting. It's not the perfect monitor for gaming when compared to some dedicated gaming monitors out there, but considering the phenomenal image quality, I'd...
You can basically just wave a pencil in front of a dimmed screen. I've never seen that method fail. You can't confirm there 100% isn't any flicker, but you can confirm 100% that there is. :D
Does reading a book in sunlight hurt your eyes too? Lighting in the environment can be as much of a problem as light coming from a screen.
If you have a non-problematic monitor, but have bright overhead fluorescent lights, the "monitor" will still seem problematic even if it isn't by itself...
Yes, the Viewsonic does 10bit color actually by using 8bit+FRC.
My problem was extremely severe, with eyes becoming very red very fast. Headaches were less of a problem, but I'm not normally prone to them. My only solution to using a computer was to stream to an iPad (a PWM-free device, but not...
That Viewsonic doesn't have PWM (you have checked that yours doesn't, right?), but it does have FRC AKA temporal dithering, which is kind of like flicker, though not as bad as PWM. That's why when I was buying a PWM-free monitor (u2713hm) I made sure it was a native color monitor (mine is native...
Correction, it's above 19%. PWM is not horrible at 19%, which is why many people don't mind, but it needs to be set at 20 for PWM to be completely gone. Check this review: http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/dell_u2413.htm
At 20%:
At 19%:
NOTE TO MODS: PLEASE DON'T MOVE THIS THREAD TO THE MOBILE COMPUTING FORUM! THIS CONCERNS ONLY THE DISPLAYS OF LAPTOPS AND WON'T GET ANY ATTENTION THERE.
PWM gets lots of mention here, from people looking for a monitor without PWM. A hard find, but we're aware of the PWM-free models and can...
Check the phase and pixel clock settings. There should be an option to set them automatically, but if for some reason it doesn't work, you can try setting it manually.
No, it's competing against 600-700$ brand name monitors with three-year warranties and excellent return policies and is targeted to people who don't know any better or are too cheap.
EDIT: It's still much smarter to buy through monoprice then import.
Why choose the HP over the Dell U2713HM? The HP has better input lag and same excellent picture quality and PWM-freeness, but in all other areas it's lacking. I could never do without a good OSD personally.
P.S. It's a good thing you bought new as you probably received a Rev2, which has a...
@met: I knew about that, mobile site doesn't give me the features I need.
@lilfiend: Thanks, I inverted background and foreground colors, and though it looks a little funky, it's still better than it was. Though now I have white on black when writing replies... There's more to the add-on, so...
Just so you know in the future, PNG doesn't smooth anything out, it's completely lossless image compression, making screen grabs of text in particular not just sharper, but also smaller in size.
I recently started using this forum. I love it. But the white text on black background thing looks like **** and cannot be changed in any settings I found. I want the simplest solution possible to swap the palette to the normal and more pleasing and comfortable black text on white background...
My September unit doesn't have any problems with image retention. We've had many posts about it but I would be surprised if it was the norm.
Brightness has nothing to do with that, it's just backlight intensity.
