Go into Nvidia control panel and make sure VSync is turned off. It gets turned on every time you install new drivers. Also select prefer maximum performance under power options.

I was hovering between 50-60 FPS, going up to 70 FPS indoors on my 980s. Everything maxed out, no AA enabled. Edit: I'm at 1440p.

I'm going to reinstall vanilla Skyrim to see if it's mods that are the issue. Although I don't think that they are.

The videocardz author also said the Maxwell CUDA cores are a lot more efficient and better performing than the Kepler cores. This makes me more hopeful. Hopefully performance is good enough to compel me to sell my 780 Ti and SLI these 980s.
