Understandable, not a lot of info for someone over the internet to assess... Since the last crash nothing has happened.
I think I will start to plan my next upgrade path just in case as this is most likely a failure of the mainboard somehow.
I don't have issues with temperature so I won't be able to get you that, the system has never seen critical temps, ever. Also none of the data suggested points to a temp issue specifically from what I can see - just a general failure of ALL MB sensors at the same time. Temp , voltage, VBATT...
Yes as I said, the 2nd log snippet is after the reboot and everything is working normal.
The first log is the history, not actual readings. Actual readings (which I didn't copy/paste during the failure) when the system fails is the second log but for everything is 0 volts, 0 RPM, zero...
So recently I've been experiencing random lock ups.... my server (ESXi) will just lock up and become unresponsive, except for the IPMI.
Checking the server thresholds and logs through the IPMI shows after the lock up shows all motherboard voltages are reading 0V... CPU, memory, etc, all sensors...
So last night one of my disks failed in my home lab/setup, after noticing I determined which drive it was, tried a few things.. nada... Server is off for now.
My current setup is as follows (yes I know it's not ideal, it was my first time playing with ZFS).
3x 2TB in Z1 and I have a 250GB...
I do run an LSI in IT mode for some of the disks, and I assume that It wouldn't matter which ports the disks are connected to as usual in this case when moving as I would then do as you say an passthrough the LSI controller.
Noted thanks! Moving the pools between them is a non-issue...
Gea (and others), I currently run a setup that I would like to consolidate.
One box is just running OpenIndiana + napp-it:
-Core i3, 32 GB Ram (non-ECC - yeah, yeah I know)
OS is running on 2x 320GB drives in mirror
Z1 array for main data store/shares
6x 2TB WD drives (split in two...
Alright so, fresh install of Windows Enterprise 8.1 on my desktop machine.
Connected PC to domain, logged in, drive mapping worked as it should.
Rebooted a few times after installing software that I normally install on my computers (from the same sources/locally from my file server, etc)...
Having a really strange issue, but don't know how to troubleshoot it..
I seem to have issues with my domain connection/authentication issues from my ZFS server.
The fix I have found this far is to remove the ZFS server from the domain/AD (move to WG) and then reconnect the ZFS server again...
Sorry for the late reply...
Domain mode, I actually have not tried to stop/start the SMB service. When it happens again (since my last post it has not) I will definitely try that and report back.
Gea,
sorry if this isn't the right place, but I've noticed that one in a while my FS will kill all SMB share access... It seems to happen randomly (either under heavy access for extended periods) or just after having the server on for a very long time (months).
I haven't been able to nail...
Just finished setting up my multi-monitor setup...
Upgraded from 2x 24" to 3 monitors by adding a QNIX 27" as my main monitor... Along with a 3x monitor stand from ebay (very happy with it) that can take up to 3x 28"
Changed around some of the lighting in the room, so this is how it is as...
Tried upgrading... same thing... it says I need a valid agreement or license.
Quite strange
On the bright side I was able to recover everything correctly and reset all the ACL's... so all my shares are working correctly once again. Just strange about the napp-it extension(s) not working...
I see what you mean about the tool in /user/bin as they works as expected... although I could have sworn previous to this I didn't have to specify the path to use them before.
That said, the napp-it issue is still there no matter what I try (acting like the PRO version is not active).
Any...
I understand all that, but what I was trying to say is that it seems I can no longer set ACL's at all... I cannot view them, I cannot set them.
Would you mind giving me an example of how to reset the ACL's @ that command line?
I believe it should be chmod A- target but like I said it no...
So, a quick back story...
I needed to swap domain controllers because I wasn't too happy about a few things... so I moved OI to a workgroup temporarily called HOME, and then when the new DC was up I joined OI to it again. Great.
Went and removed all the idmap links, and all the shares had the...
So seems like my OI box is giving me a problem yet I don't know what it is.
I cannot access any of my shares... not from my linux boxes nor my windows boxes.... I checked all the status screens through napp-it to see if there are any errors but nothing.. no HDD errors, no jobs being run...
you are correct.. and that is what I have done for the features that no longer work when the plug-ins are disabled...
I do applaud you for creating something like this, and making most of it accessible and usable for free. I just find that maybe looking into a more home-user friendly...
Ah your'e right... I guess you've just blocked the ability to add AD users & groups without a registered extension.
And yes I've seen the offer for non-commercial home use... non-expiring key is 300 Euro... and while I enjoy your menu application, I cannot see anyone paying that kind of money...
So I had a bad morning.. my DC decided to take a dump and of course since migrating from Xen to ESXi I never bothered to do a backup of that VM...
Had to do a complete reinstall, and while I was at it I changed the hostname for the file server.. that to my surprise rendered the napp-it...
The Dual port card is indeed an extended PCI card.. but I never thought it would be able to saturate a PCI slot.
The single card is a regular PCI card though... guess that is why both cards have the same performance.
Thanks for the insight! I'm finally enjoying my new file server under OI...
I will have to get that... the single port card that also didn't work was the Intel Pro 1000 GT.
The dual port card I will have to check.
But for what it is worth, I enabled the RTL8111 in OI and it's blazing fast. Write speeds are around 70MB/s and read speeds are over 100MB/s...
So I did a test and now know what is causing the degradation in throughput.
It's the Intel NIC. I installed FreeNAS 8 on a USB stick and observed the same speed issue, I then switched to the on-board Realtek NIC and boom I went from 40MB/s read to 78MB/s.
I then thought maybe something is...
My issue here is that my newer/better/faster system is slower then my old fileserver running far inferior hardware.
My new specs are:
Gigabyte P67X-UD3-B3
i3-2120
32GB RAM
Intel dual port E1000
currently using the on-board Intel SATA ports
2x 320GB Segates mirrored rpool for system
3x...
You don't have to re-install.. you can make some registry changes before switching to AHCI and then it will boot:
http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/forum/showthread.php?69682-Change-from-IDE-to-AHCI-after-Installation
That worked once I figured out that I had a comma instead of a semi-colon at that the end of the line :P
Thanks :)
Unfortunately, the read speeds are still horrid with OI vs. my Ubuntu ZFS box:
Ubuntu ZFS FS:
OI ZFS FS:
Interestingly enough.. running a dd test on both systems shows the OI...
So I've finally got my new file server built, but having some issues with performance compared to my almost identical setup (HDD wise) on my old FS running Ubuntu.
I'm missing about 10-15MB/s on a read over the network on the new FS and I think it's because of the physical sector size is not...
Yes you're right, that is the other downside of that "desktop" MB I suppose... so far my current setup without ECC RAM has been solid as a rock, so I'm hoping the same with new new/improved setup that I'm trying to keep within my budget.
Thanks for your reply!
Cheers
Sorry if this isn't the place to ask, but I am in the process of putting together parts for my new file server...
My current server is running Ubuntu w/ ZFS + SMB which is fine, but I've run out of room in my case, and the MB, CPU and RAM is limited (old S939 platform).
So I have recently...
