This is the last log:
With the sender log:
I then copied 2 files to my source just to make sure that there was new data to replicate..ran the job
Now ran perfectly..glitch maybe...? (what if nothing changed since last snap...can this trigger a problem?)
Network, Pools, Disks all fine..!
I created an replication job a couple of weeks ago like this:
So each week I created a replication snapshot from 1 napp-it appliance to a 2nd appliance.
Everything was working beautiful up to last night:
Checked the System, Log, log-0 from the napp-it Menu nothing helpful.
Also nothing in...
I have to correct myself thank you Gea !!!
It's certainly possible to have versions using the replication target.
Just share the replication share and with previous versions you'll see the snapshots from the source.
In my testing the share is removed every time I ran the replication (so had to...
Oke, so if I understand correctly and just fill in keep at least 4 replication snaps and schedule it once a week I should be good to go.. :D
EDIT
I just realized that it doesn't really make sense to keep 4 replication snaps..because it's a "replication" job and not versioning..so If i throw...
I want to start testing replication from my prod napp-it appliance to my microserver napp-it appliance.
Idea now is to run a replication once each week, I want to keep 4 weeks ..do I need to set the
Keep target snapnumber to 4
or
Hold unkept snaps for days to 30? (or both?)
Right on! Never saw those:eek:..maybe create a big button the next release! :D
I also enabled the Pro Acceleration Agents. is that what is represented here?

The "Edit" button enables logs and edit...edit what and which logs..? Should these always...
Something strange on my newly rolled out Napp-IT appliance:
https://forums.servethehome.com/index.php?threads/esxi-6-0-nfs-with-omnios-unstable-consistent-apd-on-vm-power-off.6099/page-7
Checked the Smart values and one of the disks has failed:
I created some jobs to see if they report...
Also anyone here using Solaris 11.2 and seeing slow download speeds when installing packages?
(tried e1000/vmxnet3) I'm on 50/50 MBit fibre connection. (other downloads go at 5 MB/s)
Does Oracle limit bandwidth or something? (speeds vary from 4 kb/s to 512kb/s)
I have 2, 1 for NFS and 1 for CIFS. (NFS nic is 100% virtual, no real nic is attached)
Hardware used
MSI Z77MA-G45
Core i5-3550
32GB RAM
Intel 82571EB Network cards
M1015 flashed to IT using P19 passed through to VM in question.
I've documented everything to the best of my ability in this...
@Gea,
Well I wish I could run all my VM's on that HP Microserver but it will only take 16GB. I'm going to use it as a learning tool for work and backup my production machine.
But if time permits I'll test some stuff out.
Nice job creating a new OVF, saves 10's of GB on diskspace !
I've also been testing some more today no luck for me using OmniOS :
https://forums.servethehome.com/index.php?threads/esxi-6-0-nfs-with-omnios-unstable-consistent-apd-on-vm-power-off.6099/ (starts about half way down)
Solaris 11.2 has worked for me with version 5.5 and 6.0.
@schleicher
I've been having the EXACT same issues as you had when using 151014 - 7648372 using ESXI 5.5u2 patch 3 (and up to the latest 5.5 patch as of August 2015)
Thanks Gea for bringing this to my attention! (saves me a lot of heart and headache!)
Will try again with your original appliance...
Thanks Gea,
So far haven't seen any issues other than what I've described..
Wasn't aware that the ESXI tools were for version 6 as the vm is named:
napp-it_15b_vm_for_ESXi_5.5u2-6.0.zip (May 28,2015) so I assumed it was for 5.5 and >
Any reason you give your Napp-IT Appliance 1 vcpu instead of...
I'm probably one of the last of the mohicans still running on OI with napp-it.. :o
Had some free time on my hands and after moving to esxi 5.5 u2 patch 3 (esxi 5.5.0,2143827) quite some time ago the next thing on my list is my favorite zfs system.
Downloaded Gea's last appliance nappit_15b...
@Aesma
Too much work manually checking par files let tools to the work for you :)
I only use the GUI for the updates of packages the rest I do with the Nappit GUI but I saw this mentioned on the OI IRC channel:
[10:32.48] <mickey_> found this discussion: JDS menus and launcher gone is there...
I hope you don't get too attached to it as it may seem that the GUI in OI will be a thing of the past in coming versions.
I'm also on OI right now but I am reading up on the latest developments with NappIT and OmniOS.
@Levak
As Gea says, set userrights from Windows only decent way to make stuff...
Thanks Gea,
Task 1:
In that case, I'll have the alert task run every day in case something happens!
Minilog:
That minilog has been hidden away quite nicely but I found it now thanks..!
I think you can add bigger drives in your own tempo. say if you have 2 drives of 1 TB, you can add a 3 TB...
Thanks Aesma,
So I'm back after a good nights sleep for 2 tasks:
Task 1)
The reason that I found that disk to be broken was just luck. So I was wondering if the email task "Alert To" would help me to pro-actively warn me that a disk is failing.
I've set the task and tried running it to see...
Thanks _Gea,
I'm so tired that even matchsticks don't even work anymore..next up is to re-create my jobs (found something odd during testing but I'll save that question for tomorrow :) ) and finally add my 2 TB disk to my vdev vol02 mirror
Any proper way from Napp-IT to delete the zfsfolder +...
Ok,
Current status:
- I've moved all my data from the old pool, vol01
- destroyed the vol01 pool.
- edited the sd.conf (reboot)
- did not happen what I expected [notice un 4,6,7]:
- hashed out my edit to the sd.conf and saved..drives appear to behave without sd.conf? [the original pool with...
Hi Aesma,
What do you mean by creating the vdevs everytime (physically) ?
My plan now is:
- Wait until I've moved everything of the 512 bytes drives (with ashift=9 pool)
- Then destroy the old zfsfolder + pool.
- Edit SD.conf just for good measure to make the old 512 bytes drives report as...
Thanks _Gea,
That is what I'm so confused about.
If I click in Napp-IT on Pools, Add vdev, I can only add my new drive to an already existing pool: (which has a pool with ashift=9 because the disks are 512 bytes)
If click on Pools, Create Pool I can select my drive and the pool that is...
Well I did buy a 1TB and a 2 TB drive so might as well use them.
So would this be an option?
1) Create a new Pool on the 2 TB, migrate my VM's off the ashift=9 pool to this temporary nfs pool.
2) Create an ashift=12 Pool on the new 1 TB disk (since it appears to report as 4096 anyway :( )
3)...
Hi _Gea,
I've checked the sd.conf but it's a little confusing:
What do they want me to type here to force the disk to 512 bytes:
"ATA plus 6 spaces ST1000DM003-1CH1", "physical-block-size:512"; ???
Or to force the Samsung drives to use 4096 ??:
ATA-SAMSUNG HD103SJ-00E4"...
I'm stuck :(
I removed the faulted disk from my server and replaced it with a 1 TB seagate disk
Then I tried to replace the drive but the drive to be replaced was not listed:
I then removed the faulted disk from the list
This worked
I then tried to add the drive
But I'm getting the...
Well I just checked how much space I 'm using on my 3-way mirror and saw that I have about 500 GB free so I decided to order a 1TB drive for my 3 way mirror and also a 2 TB drive to add to my other volume so both volumes will become 3 way mirrors..
Going to visualize my actions :D and...
Thanks _Gea,
To be sure I think I want to initialize the disk first before using it..
Can I use the same cable which had the broken disk to attach my new drive..?
- When using hotswap to Offline the drive, do I then replace the drive while everything is still running or should I only use the Hotswap to Offline the drive, shutdown Napp-IT + ESXi, replace the drive in the same slot, start ESXi + NappIT and configure the drive..?
- I also read somewhere in...
@_Gea
I'm almost in the same boat as MistrWebmastr, I'm experiencing my first drive fail since running my All-In-One ESXi setup with Napp-IT.
pool: vol01
state: ONLINE
status: The pool is formatted using an older on-disk format. The pool can
still be used, but some features are...
If your OI VM does not change often you could power it down and try to export it as a .OVF..?
Still curious about :
Guys, was just wondering
Do you use the OI Update Manager on a regular basis to update your OI NAS systems or do you leave it as is and just update Napp-IT..?
@_Gea congratz on...
Guys, was just wondering:
Do you use the OI Update Manager on a regular basis to update your OI NAS systems or do you leave it as is and just update Napp-IT..?
Dunno if that is going to help, I had E1000 nics on my Nexenta box and saw a large amount of dropped packets in ESXTOP, after switching to OI/Napp-IT with VMXNET3 I didn't see dropped packets in ESXI anymore.
I've also seen this with Windows 2008 R2 when trying to add NTFS permissions to a folder.
Try the following in Windows 7 or XP:
Connect to that smb share by using user ROOT.
Create a new folder (root will be the owner)
Add a user to the NTFS permissions
Instead of adding the user, click...
@Gea
Thanks..! enabled the autoservice 15 min. (perhaps easier that this is auto-enabled after you create a scrub job..?)
The length of your cables has nothing to do with stuttering of BD iso's. (always stay below 100 meters with UTP but that's beside the point).
If possible create a new...
