I like the wide gamut of my U2711 in most games as well. I find sRGB way too restrictive in capturing a lot of colours in the real world. Still hate the coating on the U2711 though. The U2713H may be what I need.
Actually for active 3D the GPU has to draw separate frames for each eye which does effectively half the frame rate. I've got a Samsung S27A950 and you can clearly see the performance impact when you enable 3D mode, both in smoothness and on the frame rate counter. If you're just enabling light...
Great article but I suppose it can be interpreted a number of ways. I think what that article really seems to be saying is that 120Hz IPS is never going to be as responsive as 120Hz TN. But compared to 60Hz IPS there would be some benefit, only seems that the manufacturers don't have the...
There is a lot of variability with these kind of monitors and you can't really use somebody else's settings and expect miracles. How do you have it connected up?
The review posted above talks about the matte screen and how it affects the image. By glare I assume you mean glossy?
And you should have a look at the responsiveness section as well. It talks about how you should look at more than input lag and there is no comparison between a 120Hz/144Hz...
There is actually very little evidence to support that theory. If you are straining to see then your muscles are becoming strained and you should take a break if needs be. If you continuously struggle to see past reflections (you will know when this is happening) then your eyes will be fatigued...
Could you upload some pictures of the screen switched off in a bright room? I want to see how the surface looks. I'm not interested in buying one I'd like to know how light or heavy the surface is compared to the older IPS models. Your words are encouraging though.:)
The glasses are not labelled correctly (at least mine aren't). It says they are SSG-3100GB on the sticker but on the box they are correctly identified as SSG-3150GB (those work at 120Hz as intended). Don't worry about extra 'M's in the models they are the same thing.
The overdrive is added by the monitor manufacturer and isn't part of the panel, so it's Dell's fault so to speak. There isn't another monitor using that same glossy VA panel to compare anyway. It looks from what I've seen that the BenQ has milder acceleration with fewer artifacts.
I think that's just a macro shot. I usually get the same on my Apple Cinema Display when I take macros so don't think it was visible. Might be worth emailing the reviewers to see what they say.
This is still just your opinion though. I know people who have used 120Hz+ Catleaps and don't draw such a positive comparison. I am not doubting it's a great and responsive monitor but it isn't as responsive as a 120Hz TN panel and those who are sensitive to that will notice. They might not care...
You mean this image: http://down.playwares.com/xe/files/attach/images/53/880/046/fdac7f4b97dbe8c01002fb0bd7a3e0b8.jpg?. I agree with elvn here. 120Hz TN panels are still a lot faster, especially looking at the grey to grey responses which have been measured at under 3ms typically. Not everyone...
The models I use for personal use are the Dell U2711 (soon to be replaced) and Samsung S27A950D. I have used many LCDs in the past and at places I've worked. I also know many people who use a computer monitor frequently and have perfect eyesight. You can damage your eyes staring at anything for...
That just means 'White Light Emitting Diode/ Backlight Unit'... Which all 950Ds have. There must be more to this, unless it is just a retailer trying to extort a bit extra from uninformed individuals.
There is no set definition of semi-glossy really. Anything between your common matte surface on Samsungs (lighter than on LGs usually) and glossy can be considered semi-glossy.
Depends what they are doing. It doesn't have a true wide colour gamut so if anything the 'average user' may prefer native settings. For the sake of colour accuracy you are right, but it is possible to hardware calibrate with restricted gamut in other modes according to reviews.
TFT Central noted that it has a high price point but didn't really imply that this wasn't justified or suggest it was actually overpriced. They also only mentioned crushed contrast ratio and blacks under the sRGB mode when calibrated or not.
