You are right evilsofa, and it is indeed an option, but for those wanting a "1440p-like" desktop, only more crisp, they're out of luck. I'm guessing that that's what OP's question was all about. (and TBH, that's my point of view as well.)

I think what OP meant is that he is using a 27 inch 1440p/1600p monitor now, and if he wants to go higher, his only option now is 4k. 4k @ 27 inch will make everything look smaller (even if he scales DPI @ 200%, it'd still look like a sharper 27 inch 1080p panel). At 27 inch, there is no good...
