Hi all,
I recently come across these devices called Radian RMS-200 and Radian RMS-300. Looking at the description and spec, it seems to be a "spiritual successor" to Zeus RAM and a perfect fit for a ZFS SLOG device. However Radian does not specify the latency of it.
On the other hand I already...
I was just stumped upon this article when searching to improve my ZFS performance by improving the SLOG device:

The main idea here is to use a hardware RAID card's write cache (in the form of DDR) as ZeusRAM's...
Selling some PC games via internet download:

Assassin's Creed 4 Black Flag + Splinter Cell Blacklist = $20

So I am upgrading my ZFS rig and here are the performance figures (after some troubles) (compared to 1 year ago):
ZFSGURU-benchmark, version 1
Test size: 32.000 gigabytes (GiB)
Test rounds: 5
Cooldown period: 2 seconds
Sector size override: 4096 bytes
Number of disks: 10 disks
disk 1...
So I just got 10 ST4000DM000 to do some testing but found that the write performance is ridiculously low, as shown below. I have terminated the test as I figure it will not go anywhere.

I am currently using a 900W PSU from a SuperMicro SuperWorkstation 5037A-i in a NORCO RPC-4224 Case. The specs are as follows:
AC Voltage 100-240 V, 50-60 Hz, 10-6 Amp
+5V Standby 3 Amp
+12V1 25 Amp
+12V2 25 Amp
+12V3 25 Amp

I am getting ridiculous high latency between my Windows and Solaris, around 600-2000ms, where i was expecting <1ms. I tried both Connected Mode and Unreliable Datagram.
Windows is Windows Server 2008 R2 physical machine with ConnectX-2 QDR single port card, whereas Solaris is Solaris 11.1...
When i add a new SSD to a pool with an existing SSD as L2ARC ZFS does not give me the option on how the 2 SSDs will cooperate as L2ARC. Are they automatically stripped or i need special parameters?
So I've been using ZFS RAID2 for some time and find that it's time for me to investigate the space efficiency problem as my pool is filling up now.
So here is the configuration: ST3000DM001-1CH1 Seagate 3TB x 10 in a RAIDZ2 pool with ashift=12 on Solaris 11.1
zpool status -v

Hi there,
I have a quick question: how to see which file(s) are currently accessed from ZFS CIFS share?
I can do so for a Windows share where i just look at the "Open Files" snap-in in Computer Management. How do I do it from Solaris 11.1 with napp-it?
I am currently using Belkin F7D8301 Play N600 HD Wireless Dual-Band N+. I'm using Astaro as my router so only using Belkin for wireless access and gigabit ethernet switch now.
Recently I found that my Belkin can't handle multicast traffic from the ethernet to wireless clients, only the...
I just got a ConnectX-2 card (MELLANOX MHQH19B-XTR) that i'd like to passthrough to a Solaris 11.1 VM on ESXi 5.1.0a. However Solaris will hang on boot with the following message:
svc:/system/filesystem/root:default: Method or service exit timed out. Killing contract 9...
I just upgraded from ESXi 5.0 to 5.1.0a and noticed that when i use vSphere Client to view the console of the guest VMs on ESXi server there are noticeable JPEG artifact on the screen, especially when the desktop is changing (e.g. maximized Windows Task Manager). However i did not notice any...
So I finally assembled my rig for a ZFS storage server. And here are the performance figures:

Test size: 32.000 gigabytes (GiB)
Test rounds: 5
Cooldown period: 2 seconds
Sector size override: 4096 bytes
Number of disks: 10 disks

Hi,
i suppose this is a very simple question but i just can't figure it out...what's the procedure for preparing a slice of a SSD attached to Solaris 11.11 for a zpool to use as a ZIL? (suppose the SSD is found as "c8t15d0").
Hi all,
I have been searching for cheap IB card on eBay for a while an and found it is very confusing for all different types of card.
My intended use is for Solaris ZFS VM so I need it to be compatible with either ESXi 5.1 or at least Solaris 11.1 (so i can passthrough the whole card)...
I once heard that the optimal setup for ZFS RAIDZ2 is 10 drives(8data+2parity). What is the rationale behind this?
Also i have a RAID/HBA card with 8 ports, if i setup 10 drives i will need another RAID/HBA card. Will there be any performance hit to it?
I'm planning to buy a NORCO RPC-4224 4U case and wondering if it can be put on the floor vertically?
And if put horizontally, can I stack a desktop case on top of it?
Hi all,
I'm considering using Solaris ZFS + CIFS or NFS to serve storage space to Windows 7/2008R2 clients.
I'm planning to use IB as it is much cheaper and faster than 10GbE.
Per the post here http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1723459 i found that it is not optimal to use SCSI/iSCSI due...
I'm considering using ZFS + CIFS or NFS or iSCSI to serve storage space to Windows 7/2008R2 clients.
While TRIM is often associated with SSD but this time I'm thinking of similar concepts for NAS/SAN. That is, which protocol can offer the ability for the server side to know what space is no...
I am planning to build my home storage system early next year. Currently I am researching for a ZFS ZIL disk and found 3 products: DDRdrive X1, ZeusRAM, AEONDrive.
For DDRdrive X1, the price is ~$1500 in 2009 when it's out but I'm yet to find its current price. Does anyone have an idea about...
Does SAS2008 chip based RAID/HBA Card work with ESXi in RAID 0/1 mode? I.e. is it considered a hardware RAID by ESXi?

So I've been planning my first virtualization solution for home use for several months now. I did extensive market research and enjoyed a steep learning curve as I'm stepping...
