From a quick glance, it looks like there isn't enough padding...is the chair stiff to sit on?
I'm really confused about the headrest. It appears useful when sitting straight and doing work, but judging from the forward position of the headrest, it looks like it'll be uncomfortable to lean...
When I started computing (90s), there used to be just a standard computer chair that everybody had and i had been using that all along. Now that I'm getting a bit old, I think those chairs have started taking their toll on my back and bottom. So I started searching for a decent ergonomic chair...
I'd strongly recommend you guys to look for a used NEC 2690WUXi (first version with A-TW). Even if you get the backlight bleeding fixed on Samsung, the IPS glow is still going to be there, which I found to be quite intrusive. Get a 2690...you'll thank me later :)
I didn't buy from newegg because of their return policy, buy.com is better IMHO. When I was doing research, I was told by a guy that he had his fixed by samsung and has no backlight bleed whatsoever now. So I'd recommend contacting samsung first and see how they handle it, otherwise just return it.
I honestly can't say anything about U2412, but from all the research I've done, Dell monitors seem to have more aggresive coatings. I guess someone who has NEC 2490 and a Dell monitor can give a better comparison of the two. FWIW, I don't see any sparkling effect on my monitor, nor find the AG...
Liking something tends to be very subjective, so you have to ask yourself what is an "ideal" monitor for you. To me LED backlight, thinness, refresh rate, weight, power consumption aren't even secondary factors that I looked at. What I wanted primarily was a monitor that will have no backlight...
if you're slight bit technical (hey, you are on 'hard forum' right)...you should be able to take it out rather easily. Just don't rush it, or you'll end up scratching or pitting the panel and then have to live it. The whole procedure took me about an hour and a half, so it's not really that bad...
Fundamentally no, The only difference is that on the touchscreen ones, 'One World Touch' has added a touchscreen on top of the panel. The touchscreen is basically a piece of 3/8" glass and it does affect the image quality and screen reflection. I would strongly recommend anyone to remove it - if...
I was very methodical when removing the touchscreen, still couldn't take it off without any damage to the touchscreen interface cable. The hair-thin wires connected to it are glued because of the rubber seal and they will get damaged if you try to separate glass/touchscreen from the panel. After...
I've just got the NEC 2490WUXi and I'm not sure if I should go ahead and put it on my glass desk top. The monitor weighs 30lbs and when I lift it, it feels properly heavy. I'm wondering if it's ok to place it on my desktop, which has 0.8cm (0.314inch) tempered glass? I've been searching online...
Just got my touchscreen monitor as well. WOW...this thing blows Samsung S24A850DW into dust! The backlight is so uniform, it's unbelievable. You can tell these people have really thought everything out, when you can choose the color and brightness of power LED
One thing though, I tried...
If anyone can get their hands on "Philips Brilliance 200w"...I'd highly recommend it..no backlight bleed, no color change when vieweing from side, no IPS glow. Plus it has a good resolution of 1600x1050 - not too much or too little. I've been using this monitor at work for a while now and really...
@Namelessme: Yes, the frame is quite flimsy. Like few other people mentioned, if you slightly press the frame, you can see the backlight bleed spot move around. I wouldn't be surprised if that's the actual cause of backlight bleed and not the panel itself.
As for the video, Now I sit back a...
I've been using 24" A850 for two days now...it's a really nice monitor. Colors are very vivid, pictures hvae more depth to them and 24" screen is HUGEE. It's like IMAX experience for your desktop. The downside to high resolution is that now most of youtube videos look like sh!t. Only 720p videos...
@powrusr: good to hear that the seller is being somewhat responsible now.
Btw, I've had another ebay buyer say the same to me, her panel with 20K hours is very bright too. Which begs the question, is it even worth worrying about the backlight hours? Are you running yours at zero brightness?
No AG coating on touschscreen...doesn't that make the touchscreen reflective? So it's ok to remove the touchscreen and not worry about lack of AG coating on the panel?
I got my S24a850DW yesterday, it's a nice monitor but backlight bleed and IPS (PLS) glow sucks! I'm really thinking about...
@10e: Yes, Those are the ones I was talking about. I think there are two sellers on ebay selling monitors with touchscreen and they also appear to have quite a few of those.
Actually, I was asking about anti-glare coating on the panel itself. My understanding is that this touchscreen is added...
@10e: Thanks a lot for the detailed write-up!
1. So there is anti-glare coating on the touchscreen? is there any on the panel underneath?
2. Since I'd be buying it off ebay, it's hard to get the sellers to figure out and tell you the number of backlight hours, screen uniformity etc. I just...
I'm thinking about going this route as well. Is the touchscreen glued to the panel or is it just placed on top of it? If it's just placed on top, then I think this is better than buying a regular monitor because the touchscreen has probably been protecting the underlying panel from scratches...
@powruser: When are you expecting the delivery? I found this in one of the threads, it should help you in confirming the number of backlight hours.
Go into the Advanced OSM:
- When the monitor is off, hold "Input" and press the power button. Hold the input button for 3-4 seconds and...
@tk-don: since you have both S-PVA and IPS w/A-TW filter, how do 2490s blacks compare to S-PVA. I'm also looking for a good monitor for software development, are you happy with your 2490?
cool..so what did you look for before proceeding with the purchase? how's the image quality and A-TW result on this monitor? Did you also check the number of hours on backlight?
There is a guy selling used 2490WUXi on ebay, however, they are the ones with Touchscreen - so probably used commercially before. Do those have the same quality as non-touchscreen ones i.e. A-TW filter, etc? Worth buying those?
