GTX 980 Reference w/ Backplate Asus

It's a little late, only a day left, but here it is: http://www.ebay.com/itm/282517686819 It sat happily in my NCASE until I upgraded to a 1080 Ti FE.

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

I had the same issue with the same motherboard/cpu. Turns out I had LN2 mode on, which is a physical pin you have to move on the small fan daughterboard, and not something you can just change in the BIOS. Maybe it shipped that way, or maybe I accidentally moved it when I built the PC, not...

    New Fractal Design ITX cases

Cheaper yes, but 12.6L vs 19.5L is not a trivial volume difference. I don't see what use a 280mm radiator would have over a 240mm in an ITX system.

The Freilite Brevis S - A <5L case with internal PSU

I might be able to help a bit here with my physics background. I'm not an electrical engineer, but I know the basics. The complex impedance for an inductor is Z_L = jwL. w (small omega) is 2*pi*frequency. So altogether the equation they are giving is 600 <= 2*pi*100e6*L, which means L >=...

Kimera Industries Cerberus: The 18L, mATX, USA-made enclosure

Unlikely that'll happen since the Nova 5-slot case is pretty special. Awesome job catching the live stream and asking about this all the way back in September!

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

Well, back to your original question about which GPU air cooler to go with, Necere made some comments on it awhile back. In short, you are almost certainly better off going with a reference-style blower cooler with the M1. Depending on the source of the noise with the EVGA hybrid cooler...

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

The NCASE started out before the SX600 was available, so all the prototyping with the GTX 980 was with the SX450. So yes, that should work.

    Asus ROG Maximus VII Impact

Thanks Phuncz! I hadn't seen this. It's very comforting to see the thermal conclusions. As for compatibility with the Maximus VII Impact, I have a feeling someone on the forum will be a brave early adopter and let us know how it goes. I didn't know what FUA meant and I found another review...

Kimera Industries Cerberus: The 18L, mATX, USA-made enclosure

With an i7-5820k, would the last slot only have access to 4 lanes, like with the gigabyte X99M? I'm wondering if this is a limitation of the CPU in general to have this problem. If so, it seems like having an 8-lane card taking advantage of the Kimera's extra slot will require at least the...

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

What type of CPU cooler do you have? I'm using an H75 in an NCASE v2, in the right 120mm side mount (with 2 fans, blowing right onto the power supply, which pulls air in from the back), and it looks like I could fit another 120mm radiator in the left position. That means an EVGA hybrid...

    Asus ROG Maximus VII Impact

I just did some poking around in my case (with an Impact VII), and it looks like this is due to the audio daughter board where the hyper kit connector wants to be. It would be fine, however, if the connector was soldered to the opposite side of the M.2 adapter card. I was hopeful that the...

Kimera Industries Cerberus: The 18L, mATX, USA-made enclosure

The Kimera Habanero has a nice ring to it! And it completely justifies making it a bright red/orange default color. As for quantum-mechanical names, the Bra-Ket or Dirac might kind of make sense, since Dirac bra-ket notation greatly simplifies and condenses calculations into a more compact...

Kimera Industries Cerberus: The 18L, mATX, USA-made enclosure

Is a 240x120mm radiator better than a 140x140 that would fit in the side panel? I know it's ~47% more surface area, but the 140x140 could run in push/pull, and I thought fans are generally more efficient as they get bigger.

Kimera Industries Cerberus: The 18L, mATX, USA-made enclosure

On the Impact VII for example, adding a heatsink would require modding the motherboard bracket. I think it will be up to motherboard manufacturers to comply to some sort of standard to allow heatspreaders, since something like a RAM heatspreader might do the job without adding a lot of...

Kimera Industries Cerberus: The 18L, mATX, USA-made enclosure

I remember seeing reviews say the XP941 gets over 100°C, so it wouldn't surprise me if the Intel SSD gets super hot without any air passing over the heatspreader. Agree with Phuncz, not sure if it's possible to get any air in there. Maybe under normal use the temperature would stay reasonable?

Tell me why I wouldn't want to use this 4K tv as my monitor

Are there any good quantitative reviews for this? I found a PC Mag article with a few limited details, but it isn't much. I'm wondering what the main drawbacks are, since the 39" version is $340 shipped with Amazon Prime, and the 50" is $450. This is insanely cheap, especially considering my...

    Silverstone SST-SX600-G 600w Gold SFX

The stickers look terrible, so I don't think this qualifies as OCD. Would it show at all through vent holes on something like the NCASE do you think? I will get my sharpie ready.

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

Instead of having the PSU suck air directly from a 240mm radiator (like this), could you flip it around and have it draw air from the right side of the case? Assuming a SFF power supply (like this one), would there be enough of the air holes exposed to the fan to get reasonble airflow (pic)? I...

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

Well then Dan deserves a medal. I hope he is taking a small cut of the revenue for himself, or at least getting a free case out of the deal. Thanks so much for the effort, and I'm looking forward to getting the case!

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

What kind of temperatures are you getting with both parts being cooled by a single 240mm rad? I've seen some numbers around here using an H220, so I am curious if the more expensive custom loop gets better results. Either way, beautiful rig. Awesome!

    Sony PS3 Slim 250GB 3.55 CFW

Isn't selling a chipped console illegal? In the USA, I thought that defeating any copy protection, regardless of the intention, could get you into serious trouble. Granted, they probably won't go after someone selling a single unit, but it seems like more risk than it's worth.

    Dell XPS L502X Laptop

I've had a few Dells, including the 17" version if this same laptop. You can take off the bottom panel and clean out the heatsinks and fans relatively easily. I would recommend to routinely do this with any laptop every 6 months or so.

    Asus ROG Maximus VII Impact

I was thinking about this as well, and would have liked to see it added (I'm a sucker for upgradeability and future-proofing), but I don't think it's possible with Z97 without sacrificing the PCI express 3.0 lanes to the GPU. Judging by the general feeling on this forum, that wouldn't fly with...

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

I've been following this project for a long time, and I'm happy to say that I've purchased an NCASE M1 (v2)! If this case sells enough, will Lian-Li begin marketing it as part of their line-up, and would the designers have to strike a deal to do so? It is already very exciting to see an...

    Sager NP9150 (Gaming Laptop) i7 3610QM, GTX 680M 4GB, 8GB RAM, 240GB SSD

Exactly. I figure I'll just try to be more active, and eventually I'll be able to use that forum. I come here all the time for the Displays & SFF forums anyway, and I'll be buying an NCASE, so it shouldn't be a problem. I need to sell this thing sooner than later though.

    Sager NP9150 (Gaming Laptop) i7 3610QM, GTX 680M 4GB, 8GB RAM, 240GB SSD

Item re-listed. I would be happy to sell outside of eBay for a bit less (considering the large eBay hate thread), but I'm not sure if that kind of thing is allowed on this forum since I haven't been active enough to use the trade/sale forum.

    Viewsonic VX2336s-LED 23" e-IPS display

Really helpful all around, thanks! I got out a tape measure to figure out the relevant distances. I typically sit 30" from the screen, and the glow is very apparent even when I angle it just right. The glow doesn't go away until 42"+, which is way too far. I'm not totally set on an IPS...

    Viewsonic VX2336s-LED 23" e-IPS display

There's zero BLB on my model. It comes from the purple glow, which may be what people are mistaking for bleed. The response time is also 6ms gtg I believe. There is a reasonably good review of the monitor here, but he makes no mention of the glow, which is unfortunate because it really...
