I'm not a bigadv folder, so maybe I'm missing something here, but why is everyone so upset?
This isn't cryptocurrency, the points you get have less value than reddit karma. Your machines will be doing the same amount of science, I assume at least. You just won't get as big of worthless point...
Broke 20 million at some point. I haven't really been keeping up, just some old computers running in the server room. I might have to see how much crunching power I can scrounge up again though,
Today I got my forums team in the sub 1,200 rankings on extreme overclocking. It's now ranked, and I have a fancy name spot at the bottom. 8.2 million points to get there.
I'm currently running ubunutu on a Oracle VirtualBox setup with a pair of l5520's. I could upload a copy if you wanted. It's not completely trimmed down, as I haven't finished the tuning yet, but I'm seeing about a minute longer speeds than when I ran it native.
I'm thinking a big problem is case airflow with something that small. I'd suggest reapplying the thermal paste as others suggested first, and then get some better case fans and make sure they're set up right. You want a push-pull system though the case, with a slight negative pressure.
I wish I would have known this before I built my 2p rig. I could put one of these together for about $50 more than I spent on a 2p 1366 setup that can't do bigadv. (though folding wasn't it's main purpose, still would have been nice.)
Alrighty, update time.
I have HFM installed at work, and it creates a website here: http://spleenbegone.com/folding
It also uploads the log files.
Now, from home, I have HFM as well, and have set up clients to pull the log files. The problem is, only the server running v6 is actually showing up...
I have one running 4.5, 1.3v. I use it for work 10 hours a day, and fold on it the other 14. Hasn't been off in a few weeks, so I'm pretty sure it's stable.
Temps get up to 68* or so on warmer days, but the cooling is just a 212 with a single fan.
HT is on, and set to run at full.
I ended up setting up everything with v6 and Kraken, and it's working with 30k PPD or so, but I'd still like to know why v7 doesn't work proper.
I just hooked up a system using two l5520's and I'm having a few issues. Thread 1 is only getting 50% usage, while threads 3, 9, and 12 are showing 0%
I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 and the latest version released for it. I'm also getting what seems to be low PPD, 14k, which I imagine is partially due...
It is the i7 ones I have yes, I didn't realize that it needed the threaded ones. I assumed it was an optional back plate like 212's.
I'd like to just pull out the snap locks in the i7 heatsinks and just out a spring and machine screw through it, instead of having to go and buy new heatsinks.
I just picked up a SuperMicro X8DTE-F-B. I had intended to put a couple stock coolers on it, but it appears there's already a back plate with threaded holes. Does anyone know what sized thread these are?
Right, which I think will make them much more popular. I know original measurements of these cards put them much lower. It should also be relatively easy to get a single slot card of either, with a 1x to 16x adapter and run them in boxes that only have 1x slots available. (or cut the slot.)
I...
I have a GT630 and GT640 folding for me, and there isn't a lot of information on them, so I thought I could share some light.
The GT630 cost me right at $50, new at Fry's because it was an open box. Normally they're about $10 more for the Gigabyte version that I'm using. It has a maximum...
There's a pretty good jump between Westmere and SB then. Also seemingly relevant, how well does F@H scale past 64 cores? (32 for those with hyper-threading) as I'm sure that's the upper limit for most 4p rigs. Seems like something might be getting lost.
Is there a good source for used ones? I was trying to price a system, and the cpus seem rather cheap, but I haven't seen a single used board, and new ones are well over $2k
I currently have 6 clients folding on work computers (I have permission, don't worry) and I'd like to be able to view the combined number of ppd/stats/etc. from home, attached to the ones I have folding there. Is there a good way to do this, without opening a port to each computer? Currently I...
Just got a 7007 on a laptop with an i3, an it's saying 3048 ppd.
I've got a 10450 on a desktop i3 and it's listed as 3533 ppd.
I'm not sure how to feel about this. >.>
Why would you choose a single SSD, out of curiosity?
I imagine bandwidth would be a limiting factor way before disk I/O, and with two mechanical drives I could get redundancy.
I'm trying to figure that out now. Space shouldn't be a huge issue though, with just being a game server. I'm thinking either some refurbed 73gb Cheetahs, or just some standard, cheap 250GB drive in raid.
It will be located at a business, behind a dedicated firewall.
For the ram, I've got a handful of matched pairs, 2 and 4gb sticks.
Kingston Blu, Red series
G.Skill, looks like F3-10600CL9D-4GBNT
Team Elite, marked as TED34096M1333C9DC
All of it is 1333 stuff.
US. South Houston area of Texas.
Exact parts, motherboard, processor, power supply (possibly) hard drive(s) and ram, if the motherboard supports ECC only.
I'd be reusing an optical drive, a 4u case, and possibly ddr3 ram. I have lots of old power supplies laying around, but they're budget ones...
