Hi,
I am a programmer who saw during a recent trip the perfect monitor but I cannot afford it: Dell U3218K (8k and a 2H Anti-glare coating instead of their usual and awful 3H).
I work with netbeans (dark them to please my eyes), but the result is black text on a white background...
For the consumer market, you are right. But the professional market (which has a lot more purchasing power) thinks differently and has constraints that punches not in the same direction. :(
If you doubt it, check the new monitors released by EIzo (outside the video/photo editing) or other high...
Oh, totally agree. With Steve Jobs gone, now there is nobody who pushes up the quality of computer monitors. So they have no rush to revolutionize or fixe issues. We are back in a traditional "this year monitor is a little better than previous one"... nothing more...
Maybe one of these could...
Note that the LG 4k and LG 5k are little tricky to use from a Windows OS as there are no buttons to access all the settings.... With a MacOS the driver is better integrated.
I am also having a lot of issues with some poor quality antiglare coatings which decreases the font readability. Do you recommand some monitors (4k or 5k)? As a developper, I really need the best font rendered. Thanks.
Hi,
I only use my monitor to code with netbeans on Windows10. So the most crucial factor is high **font** readability. I use my screen 8+ hours per day so I cannot have blurry text, tiny font or grainy AG coating.
I would like to upgrade to 4k.
1) Which size do you recommand? 27 or 32
2)...
artbio Are you happy with it? :)
How would you "rate" the antiglare filter? Is it light, medium, very visible? (The best and quickest way to test it is to open a black text with tiny fonts on white background: web page or Word doc). Thanks in advance.
I think that the up3214q had similare issue with the A00 revision. It was fixed with A01. (When fixed, if it is a problem for you, maybe you can contact DELL for a replacement).
About the antiglare: cyana thanks a lot for this info. It is a must have for video/game/image. Unfortunately it is a...
Hi cyana
The best article about it is here: Panel Coating
At the back of your screen, there is a sticker. It contains many reference numbers. There is one which may be located under a barecode which is of the following format: Rev Axx (xx being the revision number). Should be A00 or A01...
cyana artbio Thanks for the report. Do you both have the same revision number (A0?)? Strange fact: the UP3214Q also had something similar...
Is the antiglare noticeable with black text on white background? thanks a lot.
I am looking for a stand alone 4k screen which has the same display quality as Apple ones (especially the Macbook pro, the iMac 5k or the iPad).
These screens display text with high quality because of their very light antiglare coating which is what I am looking for.
Do you have a reference?
It looks like this dell will not have an agressive antiglare coating. I am already looking forward to seeing it. It is a little too much for coding but do I have a choice? :(
(why can't I find the quality of a macbook pro screen for my w10 dev box?).
I hardly find information about the Dell UP3216Q. So here are a few questions:
1) How is the level of antiglare? Hard AG is an issue for me as I am mostly working on white background with small black text (and I have some eye issues). I cannot switch the background color (white -> black) of the...
Hi,
I am considering the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 3 (2015) with the QHD (2 560 x 1 440) non-touch screen.
As I code a lot, aggressive anti glare filters on the screen are usually a blocking issue (black text on white background).
What are your experiences with the AG filter of this...
The problem is that I run several virtual machines (Test, deployment, dev, etc.) at once from my machine and "heavy" (Write intensive) tools which means that, if I read correctly the way SSDs work, their lifespan will be pretty low. :(
Thanks to @all for your info. I will start praying for...
I have write intensive tasks during my coding work (temp file creation, virtual machines, databases, etc) and they write large files which makes the trim function a must have. :(
10K disk are prefered when IOPS is secondary and in some RAID setups. Otherwise SSD are a must!
But remember: disks AND SSD's can fail.
My gf uses a ssd and I use a RAID 1. Guess what... I am jealous of her setup... ;)
Hi,
We have Windows 7 boxes and do web developpment.
We mainly use java tools and virtual machines (VM Ware). To avoid reinstallation due to disk failure we use RAID 1.
Key points:
- working with virtual machines, db, java tools, ide, etc. are write intense...
I would love to work on a U27xx. We returned the U2711 because the dot pitch is too low for the AG they use (I hate this H3). It kills the eyes when working long hours on text (coding).
Let's hope they corrected/improved that with the panel LG will be producing in Q2 this year(LM270WQ3)...
Can some post a comparison screen photo of the 24SA850 vs U2412?
I an especially interested in the grain/dirty effect due to AG in the condition of a white page with black text (90% of the web).
I have a U2412 A02, a U2711 (The last revision) and a U2311. AG are terrible if the application...
@fartq: the AG is showing its problem when light is going trough it. So, of course, if you invert, you decrease the issue. Black => no light => no grainy effect...
Sys admin can mainly work with inverted themes (tools + OS), but programmers cannot (except mainframe developpers ;) ).
Poor...
+1 for the Samsung S24A850 or S27A850.
Buy the Dell U30/U27 and be prepare to regret it. We did this error, save your money.
As we are exactly in the same situation as you: 60% programming + 30% surfing (the website we produce) + 10% office, my thread may help you...
As a programmer, I totally understand you (font rendering quality, keeping the default scaling, etc.). :)
Unfortunately the newer version of the U30xx has a grainier AG. :( We all keep preciously our old displays hoping they do not die soon... ;)
The only advice I could provide is to avoid...
It looks like the Samsung A850 is a good choice for text because of the AG (not to grainy).
Also if you programm it is mandatory to have a 16/10 screen if smaller than 27" (1080p is not enough even with multi-monitor setup).
Also, important point to consider the dot pitch which is too low...
It is not a matter of *love* or "hate*.
If the content you display is :
- mainly dark and "moving" (games, video, etc.), it is not really a problem.
- mainly black text on light background (surfing, office, mail, programming, etc.), avoid the 27" with AG.
Also consider this parameters...
Because 1080p is too small for working. Some applications require too many secondary windows. Especially true if you programm. Multi-1080p-screen is no solving the issue. :(
I do not understand why not a single company has produced *the* perfect screen for Office/programming... Instead they...
So you would not advice the U2412m? (We were thinking about a dual 24" 16/10 setup)
I did some research about the dot pitch (mm):
U2711: 0,2331
U3011: 0,2505
U2312hm: 0,2650
U2410,U2412m: 0,27
P2412H: 0,277
U1905fp:0,2940
All of them are said to have the same anti glare film (hard...
