If anyone has a good link on how to set this up, that would be great. I found the setting for forcing all traffic through tunnel, but once connected, no internet access. Seems to not be sending dns and a gateway.
Hello all.
I'm trying to get my uncle set up on pfSense.
Previously, on DD-WRT, he would vpn in and would be on his home network. access all his machines on his lan. When he would browse the internet, it would show he is browsing from his homes IP address.
What type of VPN is this...
Solved my problem by throwing money at it. Ordered a 3 pack of Unifi frisbee's and 1 Unifi outdoor ap. Read nothing but good stuff about them on here and really like the central controller idea.
Hello all,
I have been playing around with some hotspot/captive portal software on my home network. At the moment I have Grase Hotspot setup on an old computer in the garage with a Engenius outdoor wireless AP connected to it.
I would like to have Grase Hotspot loaded onto my Proxmox server...
My opinion would be to go the expander route. I am running the LSI version of the M1015 and the HP expander on a Debian linux system. Raid 6 with software raid, MDADM. ZERO problems thus far. Smart data passes through to OS no problem.
Only thing I did was add a 40mm fan to the expander as it...
Yeah, that's what I've noticed too. Oh well. I guess i will just vpn into my home network when away to configure things with the VSphere client.
Thanks!
I think You will still need an expander as the M1015 only has 2 SFF-8087 connectors which will allow You to only connect up to 8 drives directly to the card. I could be wrong though.
IBM M1015, flash to "IT" mode.
HP Expander
M1015 goes for about 80 bucks on ebay

Ok, thanks for the suggestions! Looks like I'm going to load up ESXi, which I guess has been renamed to VMware vSphere Hypervisor, because that's all I can find that's current.
For Virtualization that is.
As of now, I tried Proxmox and OpenVZ with an open source front end. Proxmox looks more my style as it allows for VM's also. I have VMware 5 downloaded, but haven't tried it yet. How limited is the free version of VMware?
Can anyone else recommend anything else...
Well after much thought, I went a different route.
After reading about how Kloxo is not designed to be behind NAT, I came up with a different approach.
http://forum.lxcenter.org/index.php?t=msg&th=18669&goto=98287&#msg_98287...
My dad's router is pfSense too. :p
I get that part. But with Kloxo, I can map different ip's to different domains.
Another example.
With Kloxo, I can make a friend a hosting acount with a dedicated ip of 1.2.3.4. While my sites are on 1.2.3.5 and my normal home internet wan on 1.2.3.1
just...
Ok, I understand the ssl part now.
Back to the ip's. Im sorry if I'm dwelling on this, but i still dont fully understand it yet.
If I have 4 external ip's 1:1 NAT'ed to my server, how would I specify which external IP goes to which site?
Example.
1.2.3.1 goes to normal household...
Sounds easy enough, but how would the server know its external ip's? Say I have a friend who wants hosting. He wants to sell fluffy ball bags. Doesnt his domain need its own IP for ssl?
Ok, They came last night and got me all hooked up. They provided me with a Cisco DPQ3925, which has 4 ports on the back. I wasn't able to get into any settings on it. Just plug a cable in any port, specify Your IP address, subnet and name servers and I'm good to go. No problems configuring...
Yes, they are our local cable company. Its Cablevisions internet service. Im not sure what hardware they are bringing as the guys who came tonight were unaware of my switch to static ip. My cable modem now is an Arris TM822.
Thanks for the tips /usr/home.
My ISP, Optimum, just left.
They screwed up and didn't realize I was switching to static IP. In our conversations they were telling me I have to use there router.
Can anyone tell me if its possible with Optimum to just specify the ip's in my PfSense box and put...
Happy New Years!
I just ordered static ip service from my ISP. They are coming out in 2 days to install modem and router. I told them to hold off on the router as I have PFSense running on a 1u server.
My goal would be to use 1 ip for general internet use around the house. The other 4 I...
Yes, In a nutshell, You need to dig a trench about 16" out from the wall all the way around the basement. Also need to dig a sump pump pit. Line the trench with filter fabric then some 3/4 clean gravel. Lay some perforated pipe along the trench all the way around the basement ending both ends...
Look into getting "French Drains" put in. If Your handy and dont mind the labor, You can do them Yourself. I have a similar problem in my basement and this fixed it. Zero water in the basement.
May be worth a call, but my cable company will come out, free of charge, and check any new wiring for signal levels. I just finished re-wiring my house and they came out twice and checked everything. I didn't have to beg or nothing. They were happy to do so.
Never know, a call cant hurt.
I was wondering how well remastersys works on Debian Wheezy. I was thinking today about backing up my NAS operation system in an event my SSD dies. Would this be as easy as setting up remastersys as a cron job to have a installable iso to get it up and running asap with all settings and files...
If You decide to get another router instead of an access point, just disable dhcp on the new router. Plug a cable in Your old router on the lan side and run it to one of the lan side ports of the new router.
Did this on a few older linksys routers and worked fine.
Edit:
Oh, and also assign it...
Thanks BlueLineSwinger!
OpenElec is perfect. I even replaced my media OS with it. Exactly what I was looking for.
Any recommendations on a system to run this that wont break the bank?
Most playback will be MKV files streamed off a NAS ranging in quality. 1080 being tops. A remote control is a...
I want to put together a small XBMC box for my dad. I was hoping for it to be as simple as possible. More like an appliance than a computer. That has me thinking of XBMCbuntu.
Can Anyone recommend a small form factor system that this is known to work on with minimal effort? I was thinking of...
Just wanted to follow up on this. I swapped out the ssd for one of these.

Did the normal install except deleted the swap partition and selected the embedded kernel.
So far so good.
x2 on the IBM M1015
I'm running 2 of them in 2 different machines and have had zero problems. Whats nice is down the road, You can add a HP Expander and run Your 24 drives with this card.
Yes, 2.0.1 to be specific.
