Completely agree with this.
However, for me it wouldn't be worth the money quite yet to upgrade what he has. If anything I'd bump up to something with more cores.
I remember my AMD 1700+ and my Epox 8rda running at I 2.4ghz 24/7 like yesterday. Such bang for your buck back then...
That said....For this topic, I would just spend a little money one newer (used) hardware to alleviate all the inevitable headaches for today.
You may want a dedicated NVMe for the OS and separate SSD for gaming if you can swing it. Also you may be able to find a Windows 10 deal in the For Sale/Trade section.
I have the 3600 and the B450 Carbon Pro AC. It was a debacle when originally released, but the new BIOS works good now. I wouldn't upgrade tho from the 2600.
I just bought it a few weeks ago as well and am loving it. I've only played a few hours and I feel like I haven't even scratched the surface of the actual game yet.
Thanks for directing me to the subreddit...had no idea this was such a big issue. Any other boards out there that have a one-touch solution where I dont need an older cpu to get the BIOS updated? Or should I just go an x570...any ones with Wifi included for less than $180?
Edit: there is a...
Na, the latest BIOS is from 7/10. Looks like they're trying to release a new version before the end of the month. I may wait until then, but if not, I may return and get something else. The biggest thing that drew me to this board was the ease of BIOS updating with the lack of needing an old...
I'm downloading the chipset drivers from MSI site now...I guess I'm using whatever Windows installed. But I don't think this would even be a thing seeing as the issue occurs way before any Windows apps start.
I just built a new computer with the below specs. Since the motherboard is a Gen3, I had to flash it using the MSI BiosFlash button and a USB drive with the newest BIOS to be able to recognize my 3600. The problem is, almost every time I shut my computer down and reboot it, I get the little red...
I had the exact same one and remember we bought it at CompUSA...and the first thing I did was "upgrade" to Windows 98 haha! I can't remember but I feel like I also put a GeForce 2 graphics card in it as well
I'd suggest something like the 3600 + MSI B450 Tomahawk. It's very easy to flash the BIOS with a USB drive preinstall....and I think it's cheaper than what you're actually proposing.
