2 year old bump, but same subject.
PRTG is incredibly nice, but the licensing is way out of our current budget.
I have tried NAGIOS with centreon (FAN) and I somewhat have mixed feeling about it. Since it's in a 95% Windows environment, I was not able to monitor our servers agentless through...
+1 on ASRock Z77 (Pro3 here), uptime since the day I built it this winter, i7-3770, 32GB Crucial Ballistix low profile low voltage, SSD and HDD on PERC6i RAID10, Intel quad-port NIC PCIe. Really love that motherboard. ASRock seems very cooperative with ESXi build.
Hi,
I was wondering what kind of monitoring and IT asset management software you guys use on your enterprise PC's. I know that a lot are agentless and relies on domain access through WMI but what about the ones with agents?
On another enterprise I work with, we use Mobile PC Monitor and...
Hi,
I am currently in the middle of an debate where one of our warehouses is having intermittent wireless issues. The building is professionally wireless installed and equipped with enterprise level hardware (Motorola) and is functioning well in normal circumstances. The channels and tx power...
Paulwatson5, from the way I see it and know about those Lack Tables from IKEA, you seem to put on a lot of weight on those tables. The bottom one must be heavily stressed, especially knowing that these table legs are cheap pressed wood and not even totally filled.
I would not stand by near...
Since I repaired the replications between both DC's, DCDIAG shows only one error :
Starting test: Services
Invalid service startup type: NETLOGON on *******, current value
DEMAND_START, expected value AUTO_START
......................... ******* failed test Services
Which is...
Hi,
I am clueless on an issue that is getting really annoying on my network. We had some replication issues on our Domain controllers (2008 R2). I repaired the replication with repadmin and removing lingering objects.
However, even after this, my issue stays : Most servers on my domain are...
New motherboard for home projet and server improvement. It's a Supermicro X9SAE-V. I am still figuring out what will it do, either my VMWare lab (32GB RAM and SSD/HDD storage) or File server with general physical server tasks. I already have a fully setuped Asrock Z77 Extreme 4 for VMWare as we...
Found some deals in the past couple of weeks and bought some goodies for a poor mans ESXi lab build:
i7 3770
ASRock Z77 mobo w/ VT-d
32GB Ram 1600
Quad port Intel NIC
Need a 256gb+ SSD soon and 1TB for repositories and will be good to go.
Pics to follow soon.
I think we will go with a NAS unit like the RS812RP+ from Synology, it seems a good unit and will be ok.
We plan on buying a real SAN when we will reinvest in our servers, which will be in around 2 years.
For my needs, Drobo is not what I am looking for, despite their good features.
I am looking for reliability and features of enterprise levels, Drobo seems more prosumer-ish or small business uses.
Seems to me that QNAP and Synology units are priced no far from each other, what do you mean by they charge more for their NTFS interface driver? Like an option?
I will ask some quotes to our Dell rep for Equalogic units, we'll see from there.
I know that for now, and for the next 1 to 1.5 years time frame, a good NAS will suffice us. But after that, with the expension we are currently living, I don't know if it will be enough. Big projects are shaping...
Lastly, the general concensus I see on forums is that Synology seems to be the prefered NAS brand, is QNAP offerings are good enough for my kind of needs?
Hi,
We are currently looking to invest in a new storage solution for our business. I am currently debating if we are going to the high-end NAS route or a SAN. I know most of the differences but I am no expert specificaly on the matter. I just have a hard time figuring out if the SAN is...
So Jay, any update on your job transition? I will admit that I felt your pain last week while reading your stories. Makes us a little more appreciative of our jobs.
Strangely, after removing the board from the case, and running the whole setup on a cardboard box, the problems seems to have gone away. I can't see the issue in the case (if something was touching the backside of the mobo).
Now everything is back in and I can't make it fail again... what a...
Hi,
I built a new PC 2 months ago, and while I don't post often here, I'm no newbie. The setup is as follows :
Core i3 3.1ghz
Gigabyte B75M-D2H mobo
8GB Kingston DDR3 Ram (2x4gb)
Hitachi 1TB HDD
Coolermaster 460w PSU
DVDRW
USB 2.0 PCI card (to add an USB header to the system)...
What's up with the thai sauce? :p
Great gear indeed. I am eager to try this Unifi system, I have a customer that will use this in his new office in a couple of months.
Out of Band management tools like iDRAC is damn useful. Saved my butt a couple of times overtime. Yet I have a couple servers that their DRACs are not plugged in but that'S going to change soon after i'm done with the wiring at my place.
Hi,
In another thread I am asking about the WD Red har drives for a soon to be acquired Business NAS solution.
But I would also like to know if anyone has experience with the new QNAP TS-469U-RP NAS and how would it compare to the Synology RS812RP+?
Mostly for file server, outlook PST's, VM...
Hi,
We are looking forward to acquire 2 redundant Synology NAS, like the RS812RP+ and i am debating on 2 subjects.
I am looking To fill it with either 2tb or 3tb drives and use it in either Raid5 or 10 depending on the conlusion of tests i will do with them. Since we will be redundant...
I recycled an AMD AM2 motherboard and running PFSense on a Sempron 140 single core. It's enough for my 30mbit WAN and my local traffic.
The important part is the NIC, I suggest buying a Intel Gigabit CT NIC or a PRO/1000 equivalent. Realtek's are not that great.
Dell managed switches have all a WEB Gui but I recommend using them in CLI if you can.
I encountered some issues with the GUI and none with the CLI on my 3,5 and 6 series switches I have in the field.
I think it's part of the IEEE gigabit spec itself, I briefly read on this this week on a forum topic, that's why my 6224 can't force speed 1000 on CLI...but strangely my 5548 can.
Lack of standardisation?
Seems that some problems lies between the Dell switches and Dell servers with Broadcom NIC's. I am making more tests and i'll post when i'll have something new.
After some research, seems that some slowdowns might be associated with TCP Chimney setting in windows, also with TCP Large Send anf Offloading. I tried with one server and after disabling TCP Chimney, throughput went from 200mbit to 700mbit on a database server...
This article showed it to...
Also, the IPERF tests were done on the same switch, same subnet/network, so I was litterally neighboring the server while doing my tests, so VLAN Routing, switch uplink, and other variables are not applicable here.
Hi,
I have a strange problem that is capping the network throughput pretty bad. Here it goes.
We installed some new switches this winter, mostly Dell Powerconnect 5548 and 5548P switches. Everything was working OK, but I have not tested the network with iperf or any other tools since it...
