    Pentium D940 temperature issues?

Hm, throttle watch didn't show any throttling and bios update didn't help. I think I'm going to blame the MB for incorrectly reading the values as it's impossible that there would be ambient temp of 50C in idle. I will post an update if I have any luck finding out what's causing it.

    Pentium D940 temperature issues?

Thanks for the responses. Neilyos - BIOS update is on my list of 'to-do', as for fans - there are 2 rear fans blowing out. CPU seating was the 1st thing I've checked - still I might try reseating the HSF again. adeoliver - thanks for the link, I completely forgot about throttle watch :)...

    Pentium D940 temperature issues?

Hi folks. I've recently bought P4 D940 (3.2GHz), 2GB DDR2 533MHz RAM and put it on Intel D945GNT board (i945 chipset + integrated gfx). I'm somewhat concerned about the temperatures though. I'm using the supplied Intel HSF and temps go as high as 80C under load (which is ridiculously high...

    VPN confusion

Oh well, now I'm even more confused :) So you guys are saying that having the router at the branch office wouldn't be able to pretend to be on the same subnet as the remote OpenVPN server? Or you're saying those 2 sites would be on different subnets, but still able to communicate? Also the...

    VPN confusion

Hi. I have some basic understanding of how VPN works, but I'm not sure how it fits the following scenario. We plan to have OpenVPN server (on a Linux/FreeBSD box) at the central office and diskless thin-clients at branch offices. Now in order for those thin clients to boot from network (via...

    Illustrator CS2 under limited account?

Hi, I'm currently evaluating Adobe Illustrator CS2, but it won't run under limited user account. It would only run under administrator account, not even Power Users (which is practially an admin group). Is this common for AI CS2? Or does anyone know what specific permission does it need? I...

    users can't create scheduled tasks?

Um, I have a standalone (as of now) W2k3 SP1 server and I need to allow users to view/create/delete scheduled tasks. Those users are members of Users group (they don't belong to Power Users or Administrators). I tried changing local group policy to allow users to view etc. scheduled tasks, but...

Hi. Does anyone know how to remotely manage Intel SE7210TP1-E Server motherboard? I've found Intel Server Management utitlities, but unfortunately SE7210TP1-E platform is not supported by any of them (with the exception of Direct Platform Control utility, which doesn't do the right job)...

    OPTIMIZATION for XP---SP2

Well despite the OP having ton of processes running, he should be fine unless some of those hogs the CPU (which doesn't seem to be the case, because he has 0% CPU usage). I'd definitely look at drivers and bios settings which are much more likely affecting his performance. I myself have...

    W2k3 GPO settings troubles

I'm scratching my head because this. I've installed new w2k3 standard edition server and it's configured as PDC+WTS. I created new GPO for remote desktop clients which configures terminal services. I've set up security filtering that only Remote Desktop Users group can read/apply the GPO...

    restrict access to applications

Thanks for the input SJConsultant - well, there is a domain, but not with AD. You were correct that I'd prefer free solution, nevertheless I also did search for 3rd party apps, but wasn't very successful. So far it seems I'll have to resort to NTFS rights in the end, but I refuse to accept it...

    restrict access to applications

I'm going to ressurect this once more. Earp - thanks for the answer, but I don't want to use NTFS access rights way (only as a last resort). Well, the reason why I was asking about local logon was that we have WXP clients authenticating to Samba PDC, so there's no Active Directory etc, so I...

    restrict access to applications

I could, but that's too troublesome - you would have to find the dependencies for all the apps if you wish to be strict, plus, configuring it when you add new user later requires way too much work. This is IMO such a trivial matter/concept that surely there must be a way to set this up w/o...

Hi, I'd like to restrict access to some applications on my pc for certain users. It's a standalone PC with Windows XP. another licensing question

Thanks for the links hulksterjoe - the bit where they say makes it kinda clear that i'd need Office license for every PC, not just the Linux TS. One could argue with them what exactly is a "client computer", still i think this is kind of "grey" area - is there any place in EULA or somewhere...

Sorry, but i received different information from MS - i emailed them earlier regarding Office 2003 licensing under W2003&TS and they said you need license for Office for the TS and then for every station (device) that will log on the server. help with sysprep&co

Yeah, RIS would make things much easier, but as i said we have a FreeBSD server. Well, then i guess i'm left with either sysprep and pushing the images on all the machines via cdrom or use unattended answer file installation, where i'll use all the $OEM$ power.
