minus 15% restocking fee of course :p Fostex sends 300 unit shipments every few months, so they keep going in and out of stock.
Maybe they heard them stock or without a good mod job.
I believe the T50RP modded is the best closed can available, though I haven't heard the Ed. 8s...
He can be found in DIYAudo but he's not taking any orders. He is in the middle of building 50 O2s and will take a break when he is finished. The desktop design uses a B3 enclosure to fit the 1/4" jack and RCA inputs. I'm guessing the ODA will use the same enclosure unless the ODAC is really big.
Creative Titanium HD will do what you need. There is an option in the settings to run optical out while the line outs are being used. I'm using the optical out to run a Buttkicker while the line out runs to the headphone amps..
Objective amps are great bang for the buck. NwAvGuy is designing a DAC to go with them. DIY is fun, I recently finished a Bottlehead Crack OTL tube amp and I love it.
The Titanium HD does not have a dedicated headphone amp.
I don't have 598's but several people I trust have them and say they benefit from an amp. However, your ears are the final judge so A/B test and if you don't notice a difference return that Schiit.
Appears to be a huge step up in wireless SQ. Jude says they sound like decently amped HD600s. Pre-release hype should always be taken with a grain of salt, but I'll be keeping an eye out for reviews on these when they release.
IMO the 600 ohm beyers love tube amps. My 880s sounded much better on my WA2 than E9, really brought the treble and mids into line. If you are into DIY I recommend the BottleHead Crack. I have no personal experience with the Valhalla and LDMKIII but have heard the Valhalla matches well with...
To get the most out of a 120Hz screen you would need another 570 for the power hungry games. 120Hz is very, very nice for FPS gaming. The Alienware is overpriced at $450 but goes on sales every now and then for $360-370.
Tube amps have a different sound signature so its all about variety. The Woo Audio 2 pulls back the treble and enhances the mids a bit while delivering a larger soundstage than the E9. To me the HD800s sound best with the WA2 and the Fostex Orthos sound better with the E9.
No, this is one of the Forte's well documented problems. The caps die under heat and a rhythmic sound happens and is annoying as hell. You can replace the caps yourself if you like to DIY. Auzentech has a horrendous record dealing with Forte problems.
They have custom handcrafted wood cups so you are paying Smeggy for aesthetic changes as much as the sound improvements. For DIYers the T50RPs can be modded cheaply and get fantastic results. I've heard LFF's 'paradox' set and they rivaled the LCD-2s (IMO) but with a flat frequency response...
The multi-driver surround headsets offer poor value. Surround positioning on stereo headphones works very well via Dolby Headphone and CMSS-3D. And you can get much better sound quality for the price with stereo headphones.
I used a y-splitter between an E9 and buttkicker amp. It killed the SQ and soundstage even with the buttkicker amp turned off. I don't have personal experience with the Plantronics audio splitter but it might do the job.

I know nothing of why it happens. As long as it sounds good...

I had to do a workaround with the Ti HD to add my Buttkicker without killing the SQ and soundstage. Since I couldn't run the RCA's and headphone jack at the same time I was able to use the knowledge from this review about the...
It does :)
The connection to the front panel jack picks up EMI on a lot of rigs. Test yours to see if there is any sound quality difference. The Ti HD does not have a headphone amplifier.
