On my 2012 MBP, I added an SSD in the main bay and pulled out the optical drive to use for the HDD. Tried installing boot camp, and it just wouldn't go. It would hang part way through and just die when using an external USB superdrive. So, I threw the optical drive back in, and lo and behold it...

I could be wrong since I haven't done it in a while, but I want to say that you can do that in OSX by going System > Preferences > Startup Disk > select Windows partition as your boot. From here, I think the only way he can re-select the OSX partition is if he holds down the option button...

So far it looks similar, but the benefit to using iCloud Drive is probably greater for those heavily invested in the Apple ecosystem. Also, Airdrop is now ubiquitous!

Seems like they just baked Alfred into Yosemite. Hopefully it's as flexible as Alfred. I think iCloud drive is a step in the right direction for photo management...

My suggestion would be iTunes match for her music, then it's freely accessible as long as you've got data. since I switched to it, the only time I download music is when I leave the country and I take the songs I want on my plane ride or whatever. Well worth the $27/yr IMO.

Over the weekend, I deleted the old 10.8 recovery partition as I no longer needed it. My question is, if I merge the now empty partition with another partition on the same drive that has data, will it result in data loss?

the animations/transitions are much quicker on my 5s.

I think the one I use the most is Alfred for super quick access to apps/web pages, and TotalFinder, which gives Finder Windows like tab control and folders on top.

I've had mine now for 4 days now, and have done extensive reading on it. So far so good. Battery life seems solid, just had it die on me from a full charge starting on Tuesday. I'm glad I waited last year for them to include Retina. I do find that upon pressing the home button, i hold on to it...

Ordered mine last night, 32GB WiFi Silver. Will be a nice upgrade over my old iPad 2 which had such limited storage. 32GB should be the bare minimum with any mobile device these days IMO.

well, 13" retina now starts at $1299! 15" have option for discrete graphics too. Considering these pricing options, I guess that's almost the final nail in the coffin for the old Classic MBPs.

wow Mavericks is free...

With mavericks, the second screen function is pretty great. My brother installed the GM of Mavericks on his 2013 13" Air, and put a movie on the tv via airplay while he went and did some work on his MBA. It seemed to work pretty flawlessly. Can't wait to upgrade to Mavericks!
