Apparently WPA2 is no longer secure. So sayeth the Guardian here, citing this site.
Of course, there can be further layers of security, like https and VPN.
From Vanhoef's website:
With SLI and XF on the way out, surely there's no reason for GPUs to not occupy more slots than they do. The dual-slot design must impose significant cooling limitations, simply from the size of the heatsink. A bigger heatsink would allow for quieter coolers, for a start.
So, why not?
I would have liked to have seen the first x16 slot in the #2 position, with a x1 slot in the #1 position. This would be to help with large CPU coolers. Still, if the third slot is fully x16 it shouldn't matter. Could you check - indeed photograph - the underside of the expansion slot area to...
I have a pair of Maxwell Titan X cards - essentially high VRAM 980 Tis - and see no stuttering. Enabling Hairworks in TW3 still brings them to their knees, of course. Try not overclocking.
Yes.
Good work. Lower temperatures mean less noise and that's really important to me.
Could you elaborate on your choice of replacement compound? Threadripper uses an Indium solder and pure Indium has a thermal conductivity of 86 W/(m-K). Check out this list of the various compounds. Indeed, I'm...
One word: MORE! :)
I'm looking forward to NVME tests with multiple drives. I'm also looking forward to someone repeating Linus Tech Tips' demonstration of 16K gaming with 4x4x 4K monitors running off 4 Quadro cards with an additional sync card. That should really show if AMD's extra PCIe lanes...
That's an awesome build. One question though, if I may: why did you mount the PSU on the outside and not on the central column? If you were to do that, could you use that panel for cooling the PSU or additional GPU cooling?
Much of that reads like ignorant drivel. There are large quantities of Vega cards for sale. My usual e-tailers appear to have plenty of stock. For example, OCUK has at least 50 (several lines have "10+ available" , which could be from 11 to 1000 or more) Vega 64 cards and at least 30 (ditto)...
A lot of hard work there, thank you. I don't play many of those games, but for Doom at 4K I chose to use the Nightmare textures over any sort of AA and got fluid gameplay and I wonder how much such a choice might change matters. Indeed, can you confirm that at no time were any of the games...
Remember that the first 4K monitors cost even more. Prices will come down in time as the manufacturing process matures and competitors enter the market.
Hi Kyle,
There may be a slight formatting issue on HardOCP.com. Take a look at this screengrab and note the placement of the Seasonic adverts and the Coffee Lake article at the bottom. You have the page two columns, with the right-hand column for adverts, yet one of the Seasonic adverts is in...
Thanks for sharing the details on your test platform. I hope that when resources permit you will add a second system for testing air coolers based on vertical mounting, like the Silverstone FT02/3/5 cases, with a GPU with a blower cooler. Your standard testbench will do for flat motherboards.
This. It is very easy with an appropriately sized file. Be sure to take the motherboard out of the case first and to clean the slot thoroughly afterwards. However, you should also check that the card will actually fit: there may be chips behind the x8 slot that will prevent the GPU from sitting...
Great read, thank you. I appreciated the mention of the form factor up top. :) I also appreciated the section on noise. The fan coming on early then going off is an issue for those who don't ordinarily operate at high consumption. That said, I wonder what the target market is for this device...
Hmm... This is looking very good for an AMD upgrade next year with full PCI Express bandwidth for 2x NVME in RAID 1, 2x GPU, and 1x 10G ethernet or Infiniband NIC.
Sadly not - I have two GPUs and SLI requires 8x PCIe lanes for each card. If I use the x4 slot, the second GPU slot drops to x4 and I lose SLI. I won't have a free slot until I upgrade my GPU to Volta next year or upgrade my CPU to Threadripper (and I'm waiting for that platform to mature)...
I could do that - only one slot so a dual-port card would be needed - but it would mean that I could not have a third PC connected. We're 9 months off anyway, so fingers crossed for price cuts before then.
I have a modest network at home and more speed is always good. But 10Gb networking cards and switches are still hugely expensive. Is there any likelihood of that changing soon?
As an aside, I can't switch right now because my PC doesn't have sufficient spare PCI Express lanes, so I'm looking at...
That looks very good. Thank you. I do have two questions: does the board come with the 0601 BIOS or another? And if another, why didn't you test with the latest publicly available BIOS, the 0503 BIOS?
With so many USB ports I would have liked to have seen more type C ports. I noted that a...
