I have run more tests today.
I have removed the "pull" fan off of the Megahalem, and I have set the 3 180mm intake fans on "high".
I also have put back the exhaust fan at 12V.
Idle: 32 °C
Kombustor 5': 59 °C
Kombustor 10': 71 °C
Kombustor 20': 77 °C
Obviously, higher airflow helps, but the...
I would be glad to have you over in my dedicated thread for further debating of this issue ;)
Indeed they would not be the first company to silently have such practices. That would be a huge disappointment.
Wow that's great to have that many answers ! Thanks guys !
I have a very similar setup :
FT02, stock AP181 on low settings, stock exhaust fan, no case mods
I've got 2 extension cards, 1 Asus Essence ST and 1 WiFi PCI card
i5 2500k, Megahalems, Gentle Typhoon AP14 undervolted in push / pull...
It seems that, indeed, the Xonar Control Center has direct control over Win 7 settings, i.e. when I switch to x channels in Xonar CC, the settings in the preference panel of Windows automatically updates to match the desired settings.
Thanks for your help.
I've run some tests also, and came to the opposite conclusion, at least as far as GPU temps are concerned.
I've made my report in this thread.
Long story short :
In usual, horizontal position :
Idle : 33 °C
Kombustor 5 min : 57 °C
Kombustor 10 min : 57 °C
Kombustor 20 min : 57...
Hi all,
First, I don't know if it's the right place to post this, so if the thread needs to be moved, please do so.
I wanted to report my experience of using Thermalright's Shaman VGA cooler in a 90° rotated environment like Silverstone's Fortress FT02 case.
Put simply, it does not work...
That's of great value to me thanks for your detailed reply !
Are you sure ? I've read in some posts that one had to set some things in there to get better sound quality...Like "checking" all speakers, "full range" etc.
I'll try those settings tonight when I get home. I'm very excited ! Plus I...
Hello everyone,
I recently acquired an Asus Essence ST.
Coming from "plug and play" onboard sound, I must say I am a bit confused with all the options and tick-boxes one can find in the asus driver.
I am mostly gaming on my PC, but I am also listening to music from time to time. Only...
I was asking myself questions about that proc temps also.
I've just bought one, and mounted it in a FT02 case with Megahalem rev B, push pull config.
It's overclocked at 4.5 stable, 1.33 Vcore.
Ambiant temp is 25 / 26 °C.
At idle, the proc gets up to 30 - 35 °C.
Under load (Crysis...
Hi
I was asking myself the same question about HD 6970 temps.
I just bought a Sapphire HD 6970 rev 2 (blue PCB), on which I installed a Shaman cooler.
I overclocked the card to 950 / 1450 in CCC (stock voltage).
During a 20 min Kombustor stress test, the temps rise up till 85+ °C (and seem...
For the record, my final build is the following. Thanks all for your help !
230 - Silverstone Fortress FT02B
148 - MSI P67A-GD55 (Révision B3)
193 - Intel Core i5 2500K
51 - Prolimatech Megahalems rev.B
21 - Noctua NF-P12
90 - G.Skill Kit Extreme3 2 x 4 Go PC10600...
That is great first-hand information. Thank you very much !
I'll go Essence + Denon AH-D2000 (25 ohm) as a first step, and when I want to upgrade to high impedence headphones, I'll add an E9 in the stream.
Thank you very much rive22.
So you confirm that the E9 does a better job at amping than the built-in headphone amp of the STX ?
I might as well get a Xonar DX + E9 rather than an STX then...
I might be totally off here, but from my very limited technical understanding the Fiio E9 and the built-in amp of Essence ST/STX have the same amplification potential (80 mV @ 600 ohm)
Or is there something I am misunderstanding / overlooking ?
Good point. But I just can't. Totally in love with that enclosure :D Also, I am a bit skeptical as to bi-GPU setups. Have read too much about micro-stuttering problems, relying on drivers is not necessarily the best option and power / heat / noise consequent issues....
Point taken...
Yeah that's what they are. My bad, I wasn't being explicit enough. I've updated my previous post to show the true nature of those RAM sticks :-)
Any other comments on the build ? Any room for cost-efficiency improvement (esp. motherboard, Wi-Fi adapter) ?
I've kept on working on this build, and I've come up with the following list of components :
€ 230 - Silverstone Fortress FT02B
€ 148 - MSI P67A-GD55
€ 195 - Intel Core i5 2500K
€ 51 - Prolimatech Megahalems rev.b.
€ 35 - Samsung Spinpoint F3 500 Go
€ 76 -...
Yeah I realized I overlooked the comment of tonytnnt just after having posted. The review indeed shows very comparable results between the two cards. Except in BFBC2.
Thank you for pointing me to that review. I guess it's up to me now to decide whether the slight difference in performance...
As mentioned earlier in this very thread, I am also searching for a gaming audio setup. As a total noob in the audio area, I must say I am bit lost on some concepts.
So you would bypass the soundcard's DAC and let the amp make the analog conversion (supposing it has one onboard) ?
There...
I will be playing any game I can, ranging from FPS (Battlefield 3, Crysis 2), action games (Mafia II), RPGs (Dragon Age serie, Mass Effect serie, Witcher 2, Fallout New Vegas, etc.), strategy games (Civ V, EUIII, etc.).
I know I will feel frustrated if I can't max out settings in some of...
I am exactly in the same position as OP' friend. Trying to figure out what audio set up to get.
I have indeed read great thing about those headphones, though it seems they might lack the basses.
Are those headphones any good for music listening too ? Or just for gaming ?
And you would...
Hey guys ! Thanks for all this feedback. This has given me a lot of information to process. You're feeding me with torture material, as the more options I am given, the more I hesitate and ponder.
GPU
Then what does the AMD Card has going for itself ? Eyefinity (no use for me) ? From what...
Thanks from you help Danny.
Mainboard
It seems from MSI's official website that P67A-GD55 does support SLI in additio to Crossfire though, whereas the G45 seems to only support Crossfire.
I've narrowed it down to those 2 mainboards. Don't know which one to chose in the end, though (isn't...
Hi guys,
After having read countless posts here as well as on other enthusiast forums for building a new rig, I finally decided to initiate a thread asking for help. There are indeed a number of subject on which I could not make up my mind only by reading.
As I have been most impressed with...
