Really wanted to build now. But those are good points. I had no idea they were coming out with new cards. Guess I can wait before I spend all that money.
Hey guys,
Excited to do my second PC build. Had lots of help with my first one on here over 5 years ago!
This one will be more for the aesthetics, willing to pay the premium.
1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
1440p gaming - latest AAA titles.

I checked the side of the motherboard box and it says 16 gb, weird. Your link might be an american version.
This RAM should be compatible right?

For the PSU, I'm limited in choices (buying at memoryexpress.com)
They dont have any evga 550w PSUs...
Just checked, mobo supports 16 gb max, so 4x4GB it is.
Good points about the psu, investing ~100-120$ for a newer psu seems worth it.
Any of the EVGA 80+ gold PSUs area solid buy right

I dont really have a preference b/t nvidia and amd, but the benchmarks I've looked at say the r9 is ~5fps better in fallout4, witcher, etc. Prices about the same too, but i'm open to both.
What do you mean by catastrophe ones?
The prices from pcpart picker use CAD (I switched it)
edit: just upgrading gpu now. pls disregard
Very preliminary build:
For 1440p gaming does the r9 390 beat it slightly?
I could probably find a cheaper PSU. would 650w be enough for now?

CPU: Intel Core i5-6600K 3.5GHz Quad-Core...
EDIT: Talked to a friend, and instead of doing a new build, upgrading my existing GPU and RAM may be a better way to go for 1440p gaming. What do you think??
With ~$1000 CAD I'm looking to upgrade to a EVGA 980 Ti
Is this a good idea?

Oh and also this rig is a multimedia and workstation first. Then a gaming rig last. So I don't expect to spend much on the gpu.
What do you guys think of the standard build ($546) here

Yes I can change the mobo and processor, i just saw the bundle and thought it was a good deal. But if there are better options then I'm all for it.
I can probably get a copy of windows 7 cheaper somewhere else. I dont think I need to increase my budget.

The Acer looks better, but those laptops are a bit too bulky for my taste. I'm looking for a 14 or 15 inch thats <5 lbs with around 5 hrs of battery life. the 17 inch laptop wouldn't fit on the lecture hall desks lol
Yeah, I think I will wait and see. My last final is tomorrow lol (I should be studying now..) and after that I won't be using my laptop much until the next semester. I'm hoping that ivy bridge will help with the battery life a bit for those nvidia optimus cards. Thanks for the quick reply
I really dont like the look of the T series =/ I dont think I can get used to T series ugly (imo) look
the Y series does look promising but should I wait until ivy bridge comes out??
I wont be using the laptop until september when school starts again by then ivy bridge should be on most...
I do like the asus design/keyboard (larger backspace) better
But general consensus is that the 2gb FPS improvement is minimal or not at all for the games and res I will be playing at?
Sorry here are the comparisons
I am looking at the ASUS U46SM-DS51 vs MSI X460DX-291US
Res= (1366x768) for both
This will only be for light gaming. games such as D3, path of exile, and f2p games that are years old.
nothing intensive like BF3/crysis/witcher2
I am looking at the ASUS U46SM-DS51 vs MSI X460DX-291US
Asus-1gb 630m
MSI-2gb 630m
what fps/real world difference does the 1gb vram difference here make??
I really like the ASUS champagne design, but I do want the best gaming experience.
this laptop I'm looking for is just for school...
