The New Old Pencil Trick for 8th Gen Intel

This doesn't look like bridging traces like we used to, this looks like strips of flexi pcb, with no traces... you paying 15$ for a piece of electrical tape. All you have to do is block the correct 11 (by my count) pads and your good to go. I would guess that nail polish would be more permanent...

    Tube band cracks...

You won't be able to get zip ties tight enough to be usefull. If you don't mess with it the chances of it poping off are slim to none, what you need are worm clamps. However if you put a worm clamp on there while it will permanently fix the issue it will certainly void your warranty.

    Locate my bottleneck

If there's a weak link, its the psu. Not saying its not enough power, 600w is about right, but I would go with a corsair hx650. Its a good trusted PSU. Every thing else looks like it would be well balanced. I assume you are going to put a large HDD in for storage and only keep the stuff you use...

    Direct Die WC

The only reason I compare it to phase change would be on the order of time spent vs return on investment. I hadn't considered surface area and weather it would even be possible to cool the chip quick enough. You might have to find a way to jet the water so that it is moving very quickly on the...

    Direct Die WC

The issue is, if your going to bother going with the hassle of de-lidding and water cooling, and trying to fab a block, then getting the damn thing water tight, and only getting a degree or 2 at best with direct die vs de-lidded and a normal water block, then you might as well go phase change...

Water cooling for interior of cases?

Water cooling for interior of cases?

Noise is noise, running duct work can create its own noise... you can insulate it as well, but hard parts can also rattle. Air makes more noise than water, not saying it is not doable, but you might want to call in a pro for advice, they do have flexible ducts and such, but from my experience...

Water cooling for interior of cases?

The issue here is that adding fans to the outside of the case completely ruins the purpose of this case. Water cooling on the hot side can be made damn near silent, but you have to move the heat out of the case, and into an external rad, external radiators even the larger ones require fans to...

2008 R2 server in datacenter has different timezones for the same logon

So, not the right answer, but the simple solution. Why not set it to reboot + 1 hour... You want the server to reset at 6, it thinks it's 5, set it to 7... Reboots at 6.

Help me build a custom semi-passive phase change setup

They do, but they are 1200$, direct die phase change units... they make duel units, for 2 cpus, but none for vid cards, as the head at the top of the unit is usually rather tall (by head, i mean the cooling block) The reason I suggest a old ac unit and a ice chest is because you can hide the...

Help me build a custom semi-passive phase change setup

Sounds like your best bet is going to be multi loop cascade style circulation chiller. Basically tear down an old a/c window unit put the cold side inside of a really big ice chest. And the hot side out... Run your loops into the chest, the hard part is keeping the window unit from freezing up...

The Last Flight of the Shuttle Enterprise

this is what really pisses me off, mothballing a great program with no successor. I know the ships where old, they where old 10 years ago... and that's when they should have started building the new ones. Tech has come along way, I'm sure we could get more power from the engines, while using...

Possible to cool computer components effectively at high ambient temps?

been done, dose not work, better bet, if you have the parts would be a cascade chiller... but they are still noisy/expensive. and you have to know what your doing... next best thing is more like a swamp cooler, but just for your PC. Called a bong cooler. (poor mans phase change) high flow...

Best Slim video card to run Diablo3

Having been playing the beta, my 5830 1gb runs the game very well at 1080p usually well over 60fps, but the v sink will kick in in very heavy battles and drop it into the 30s, so if you can get a slim card in the range of a 6750 or better , and at least 1gb of vram, you should be good... Now, I...

IS it safe to run my monitor above it's max res

Perhaps what the op was trying to ask, was if his monitor is infact a 2560*1440 panel... If it really does have the extra pixels, and was being sold as a 1080p monitor. Or rather, if it is scaling the 2560*1440 back to 1080p (more likely ) I'm pretty sure he gets that you can't magically make...

My (hopefully not) Doomed 7970 Cooler Replacement Project

Sorry, I typed that up on my phone, and while it sounded ok in my head, I realize the suggestion sounded like I meant to do it on the other side of the board, when in fact I simply meant on the other side of the break in the trace. something else to consider is that you need to make sure that...

    Moving WC PC Long distance

Yup, drain it. No sence moving the extra weight. Make sure every thing is held down securely, any thing held down by screws should be double checked, if your cards are held in by plastic clips and can be replaced by screws, do so. If your cooler is held down by plastic clips ( am2-3) cut and...

How to reuse push-pins after changing fans

they are kinda one time use... you can push them in and re use them if you want to... but why, they dont help with noise reduction, the only reason to use them is to shave a few seconds off assembly time vs. using screws. brand new they are closed, insert, and push the button home... once they...
