Scary Supreme Court Quote of the Day

It's not a judges job to know and understand all issues, it's their job to listen to two articulate people make an argument and present information on an issue, then side with the one who went to the most expensive college.

CEO Pay in 2010 Jumped 11%

We're talking about savvy people here able to exploit a situation for the best and we're surprised that in an economic market where it's easier than ever to tell you're employee's we just can't afford even cost of living pay rises this year that even more money is finding it's way to the top...

Facebook Pays You To Watch Ads

No one tunes in the radio, drives down a street, reads a magazine, watches a film or answers their phone to hear about a product either. The problem is advertisers haven't yet really found the most effective way to use the medium of facebook. They will eventually though as you just can't afford...

Carriers blocking tethering apps! Oh noes!

My network doesn't offer a tethering service and it's policy is that tethering is prohibited. But mine and other users experience has always been that it's not policed so long as you stick below 20gb a month and don't hammer it with video streams or large downloads you're fine.

    Seasonic S12-600 worth replacing?

It's a rock solid PSU with more than enough power to cover your system. Your old system wasn't pushing it anywhere near it's capacity so it will have plenty of life left in it yet. The only sane reason to even consider replacing it would be for a modular unit if that was something you cared about.

Google Has Four Separate Classes for Workers?

Facebook Scam Uses Age Progression as a Lure

The problem with facebook is a lot of people think it's sand boxed and are trusting of their own friends on it. In the pub if a mate says have a look at this, so long as it isn't under age porn you probably don't have anything to worry about.

Windows 8: 7 Things We Know For Sure

Everyone is obsessed with touch because it's on Star Trek. Touch is not what you want for productivity. You want old school clicky mechanical keys and a mouse because it takes the least effort to control the largest visual area. Touch is great for in the field or on the shop floor with a...

Windows 8: 7 Things We Know For Sure

I wouldn't say I planned on not doing. To be honest I had very little cause to move from XP to 7. Vista was very easy to resist but the geek in me only lasted out a year from 7's release to finally moving over. The DWM and 64bit support have made it a worthwhile upgrade but I honestly can't...

This Video Is Playing On Seized Websites

It depends upon you're definition of stealing. If you believe it must have a physical item to constitute theft then you could never consider piracy theft. I don't and do agree that when one party agrees terms with another for distribution of material, if a third party then without consent...

This Video Is Playing On Seized Websites

A person distributing pirate media either for fun or for profit is stealing. They are stealing the distribution rights which were exclusively contracted from the rights holder to them. I'm sure most people have no argument that this is legally and morally objectionable. The consumer who...

This Video Is Playing On Seized Websites

When my window cleaner cleans my windows, he's performing commissioned work, there has been a prior agreement that if he commits time and effort to a task, I will financially reward him. When a street artist draws on the pavement, or a busker stands on the street corner performing, they do...

    Why I am Dumping Firefox

I agree that we need competition and there is Internet Explorer as the closed option, and then Chrome and Firefox as the open options. The problem is that IE is always going to linger around the 30-50% share from people who know no better, and the more the other 50-70% is carved up, the more...

Dust Free Computer Case! This is hilarious!!! :)

Almost all components thermal throttle so you're unlikely to see a modern computer cook it self. In all honesty I don't care about making the components last 30 years instead of 20 By putting it in a hot box? Because if I can't get my head around just making sure intakes, exhausts and...

    Why I am Dumping Firefox

Because it's of enough interest to generate 4 pages of discussion in one day. The issues I see with Firefox are basically evolutionary ones. Firefox comes from a time when you opened the browser to look up something and when websites were maybe updated a couple of times a day. It's now in...

    Why I am Dumping Firefox

NoScript in conjunction with adblock+ I find to be the worse culprits for memory usage. Without them Firefox tops out usually under 300mb, with them I'm typically seeing 600-700mb being used. And this usage seems to grow as time goes by and my exception list grows. That being said Firefox...

Lesson of the Day: Encrypt Your Wi-Fi

Because copyright infringement is a civil matter and I'm sure we would all much rather see ISP's responding to IP lookup requests in relation to real crimes from law enforcement than tenuous claims of copyright infringement by private companies.

On the one hand they can't afford to take the chance he would be able to hit a kill switch of some kind and destroy evidence, so a surprise bust would be completely understandable. Key word suspected. We have a society built upon the principle innocent until proven guilty for cases exactly...

Lesson of the Day: Encrypt Your Wi-Fi

Open wireless or not this simply highlights the issue that IP is not identity. Just because it's your name on the bill doesn't imply sole usage of the service. In my household there are 5 people using the net connection.

Which game will be better ? Duke Forever or RAGE ?

Never really liked the original Duke Nukem 3D, full 3D levels it may have had but Dooms were better designed in my mind and even at 13 I found the 'humour' infantile. The trailers of Rage I've seen do look good, this may be ID's first decent single player game since Quake II. I just hope given...

Have you guys seen this build? a machine that costs $30,000+

Those fans are all 120 or 140mm and are likely to be spinning at less than 900rpm even when the system is under full load. At idle your system may be quieter, but I guarantee when your 5870 fans have to ramp up it won't even be close. The other thing to consider is redundancy, with components...

3D TV Sales Are Still Disappointing

The better picture quality is in reference to 2D vs 3D. A £400 2D screen has a better quality image in 2D than a £1000 3D screen does in 3D.

3D TV Sales Are Still Disappointing

Kenny Powers The masses don't want 3D until it's cheap enough, doesn't screw up the contrast and colour quality that's been steadily progressing for decades, and doesn't involve every one speccing up in tints like some kind of school for the blind.

Have you guys seen this build? a machine that costs $30,000+

I am curious to see how that Tesla sits in with the 2x590's I can see it being a complication. I think given the price and complexity the case and external water cooling box are poor choices. I would have wanted the entire setup in a rack mount given it's professional use.

Do I need a new PSU or is this older model still good?

I checked the specs of that PSU and it will provide a max of 360W on the 12V line which is ample for your planned system requirements. The 4 pin should work fine on that board. The 8 pin connector is intended to cover the most high powered Phenom's at 140W and some headroom for overclocking so...

SHC isn't actually an explanation though, it's a term given to something that isn't explained conclusively but for which there are theorems for it's cause. It's like how we have the scientific term gravity for something we can't fully explain. God/higher power/magic are terms given to...

Is France Plotting to Kill the Free Internet?

I love this presumption that the internet is theirs to kick people from. The cables may travel through borders, which is why we have to pay tax on the connection charge, but everything else is of no business to those who would regulate it. The problem is history is written by the victors, and...

Or when it is given the keys to the kingdom and because of it's inbuilt life preservation subroutines doesn't nuke us all then live to regret it as it logically rationalised that leaving us to our own devices is to the detriment of our race and so becomes motivated to take control.
