    HP Smart Array p410 + SuperMicro X9SCM-F - boot in a loop

Cantalup, a million thanks for this. Very much appreciated. I know my current knowledge of ESXi is currently dismal but thats one of the reasons I want to go this route to learn. Once I get the box up and running I will dive right it but I need to get to that point where all hardware is shown...

Thanks for the link but I had found and tried that. It didn't work for me ( at least under ESXi 5.1 ). I'll try it again later this evening to rule out any mistake on my part.

    HP Smart Array p410 + SuperMicro X9SCM-F - boot in a loop

IMPORTANT: I came across this warning here. Maybe it should be added to post # 1. IMPORTANT: Motherboards with a BIOS version of 2.X must not be flashed with a 1.X BIOS version. After such a downgrade, the motherboard will not boot up again...

Hi I'm a total newbie to ESXi and I've googled HP vib package and came up with a HP page offering lots of ESXi related stuff. No idea what I need to get this going or how to install it. HP Smart Array p410 + SuperMicro X9SCM-F - boot in a loop

Just noticed there was a new firmware for the HP P410 version 5.70 released Sept 4th 2012. I installed this and re-enabled the boot rom option. Endless boot loop again. So disabled the boot rom option once more. As I said earlier I can configure the disks/arrays using windows tools from HP but...

    HP Smart Array p410 + SuperMicro X9SCM-F - boot in a loop

I understand the sentiment regarding the HP P410 controller, but since I already had it I want to use it. However I also have a Highpoint 2680 which I could use in its place. Just want to see if those who have the same equipment have any tips on getting it working correctly before I switch to...

    HP Smart Array p410 + SuperMicro X9SCM-F - boot in a loop

Just want to bump this thread since I have the same SuperMicro X9SCM-F with the HP P410 and the HP SAS expander. It was initially doing the repeating boot loop until I disabled the option rom on the P410. Now the system boots from a motherboard sata port and I can manage the disks/arrays using...

    Microserver Replacements?

Yeah, that was my bad...your right the HP P410 is an x8....I think the reason I had it in my head I needed an x16 slot was because it occupied an x16 in the microserver since there was no x8 in those. I've since bought a 24 bay case and a supermicro board and an Intel Xeon E3 1230 v2. Not had...

    Microserver Replacements?

I've had a quick look at those motherboards but they dont seem to have an PCEi x16 slot so I couldn't use my HPP410 raid card in that...At least I dont think it would work in an x8 slot. Any other recommended boards that would have at least one if not more x16 slots?

Ok, tried this...You are correct...It seems even if I disconnect all internal 4 drives, the esata card sees and reports 8 drives in its bios but the Proliant only gets to see 7 of them. Doesnt matter what order I put them in, only 7 get passed through to Proliant bios...

    4TB- WHEN!?

Worst thing as that as drive capacities grow, so to does the loss of space due to the 1000 v 1024 descriptive capacities. So your brand new 4TB will really only be 3.7TB...Thats a loss of 276GB

Massively confused by RAID and 3TB HDDs...

There are no issues with 3TB drives with Win7 if used as data drives. Just use a GPT partition instead of MBR to partition the drives larger than 2TB. The only other thing to remember is you cannot boot from a drive larger than 2TB using a standard bios. But since your OS will be on SSD...

If you read the terms of the upgrade, you do not return your old drives. You get to keep them. You only need to prove possession of the drives by supplying the serial numbers. So you end up with two drives....:)
