    Decommissioning a phpBB forum

Hi. I've had a phpBB 3 forum running for a while that's running on a hosted service. I haven't been keeping the software updated and worried that it will become a security risk to the rest of the my sites so just want to shut it down and remove any access to the database. Does anyone have any...

Making an ISO available as a repository on ESXi

Hi. I've mapped the CD drive to the ISO under ESXi, The contents of the ISO popup inside the VM and it's show as mounted to /media/CentOS_6.5_Final. The bit I'm struggling with is how to make it into a yum repository now so that any package installs I make are coming from the mounted ISO. If...

Making an ISO available as a repository on ESXi

Hi. Can't figure this out. I've created a CentOS 6.5 virtual machine under ESXi 5.5 by connecting the CD Drive in the VM to a CentOS iso I uploaded to a datastore, and then installing. Is it possible to mount that iso within the VM so I can use it as yum repository? I know I can upload the iso...

Bit of an old thread but picked a couple of TS140's up last week and wondering if anyone had managed to get the onboard SATA available to passthru in VMWare 5.5 U1? As for the previous post, I flashed the BIOS to FBKT82AUS and now the following are available for passthru:- Don't know...

Home Build vs Refurb Enterprise Kit

Hi. I'm looking to acquire a pair of ESXi hosts for a home lab but I'm tying myself up in knots at the possibilities so was looking for some general advice, if possible. I've set myself a ballpark budget of £500 ($855) per host and each need to have at least 32GB. They'll be used to host 3-4 VMs...

Remote server is RHEL 6.3 with "Allow other users to view your desktop" set. I can ping the IP of the remote server, can SSH into it and can ping it from my W7 machine that's running the TightVNC viewer. Firewall is disabled on the target RHEL server. Every time, the message says, "Error in...

    Auto start VM upon startup?

On a sort of related topic, if you have ESXi setup to auto-start your VMs in a particular order, is there anyway of cancelling this once the ESXi host starts? I have 9 VMs set to autostart 3 mins apart and there's the odd occassion when I dont want this to happen (patching etc). Any way?

    24GB on i7-xxx?

For reference, the GA-X58A-UD3R motherboard does not support VT-d passthru so in hindsight I may have picked a different mobo (Asus P6X58D-E probably).

Raid card suggestions for new server ... Thoughts?

I'm after a RAID 10 solution that's reliable and works out of the box. From digging around about the cards I've seen mentioned in other threads, are the comments about the Dell and the Adaptec correct? LSI 9240-8i won't work with my Gigabyte board apparently...

    24GB on i7-xxx?

What sort of coolers are you using? Am having a problem finding a HSF that won't impede the memory if all slots are full, especially if using RAM with large heatspreaders. The article below highlights the problem well. http://www.legitreviews.com/article/880/9/

    24GB on i7-xxx?

Thanks for the reply Tau. So would you recommend picking up 24GB of DDR3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz instead of DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz? Do you have any kit list specs or posts from when you've built your existing boxes? Have got the following lined up so far... Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R Intel X58...

    24GB on i7-xxx?

Just checking if anyone's managed to run 24GB RAM using tri-channel DDR3 on an X58 motherboard? I'd love to know...

From what I've read, if you go for the i7, and want to run 24GB, you'll only be able to manage 1066 or 800 on the RAM.
