    DSR on lower-than-native res?

Good idea, might give that a shot. For now, at least for the games I'm using, I think SSAA via Nvidia Inspector will work. Of course using an all-encompassing DSR-like solution should prove easier but I think I can work with this for now. Still interested to see if anyone has concrete...

    DSR on lower-than-native res?

Here's my scenario - Just setting up my LG B7 OLED in the living room and making a move to couch PC gaming. TV supports 1080p@120hz and I'd like to supersample at that res. I've used CRU to get 1080p to show as my native res but when I setup my DSR factors it still bases those off 4k...

Need a PCIe wireless card for gaming

You already have suggestions that match your requirements exactly, however, I have another option for you. I actually use refurbished wireless AC routers from eBay which I flash to DD-WRT and set to client bridge mode. The performance with this setup is excellent (for wireless) and you can...

    Dell S2716DG - $479.99 - bestbuy

Great monitor but yeah it can be found for a bit lower from time to time. Forgetting the price and better sales, though, I purchased two of these (one for myself and one for my wife) and they are both great without defects. If someone picks one up, just be sure to use the Dell color profile...

So I got my new 27" 1440p G-Sync monitor from Dell and...it's behaving strangely

Yeah, I have this monitor and have found that vsync off, gsync on and framerate capped at ~138fps seems to work the best. If you cap at 140-144fps then you get slight/weird tearing, but if you stay just far enough away from the max refresh rate of the monitor then it works wonderfully.

    Dell S2417DG

I haven't had first-hand experience with it, but I would bet is is pretty good. I have the 27" version and I love it. Is there a reason he would want the 24" versus the 27"? The 27" can be had at the same price or lower (Best Buy had it for $450 recently).

    Older Home Networking....

You will get better performance by putting in some wiring and running that to the front, even compared to the single access point with full signal - just the nature of WiFi versus hard-wired there. Comparing to the extender, you will absolutely get better performance since an extender will most...

Dell S2716DG LCD 1440p TN with G-sync $449.99 at Best Buy

Ah, and here I thought they were the same thing, just implemented in the menu/OSD directly on the monitors that officially supported ULMB - thanks for the clarification. For older games I might actually prefer ULMB, then, but my 1080 can't even keep a rock solid 144fps in newer games @1440p so...

Dell S2716DG LCD 1440p TN with G-sync $449.99 at Best Buy

Yeah I used ULMB on my VG248QE and loved the lack of blur but couldn't stand the reduction in brightness and contrast/colors. And like you said, GSync is pretty great so I'm okay with it. This TN isn't *blurry* by any means, my main point was that I don't think I could go any worse - including...

Dell S2716DG LCD 1440p TN with G-sync $449.99 at Best Buy

Any LCD pretty much makes me throw up in my mouth, but I do what I can with what I have and for me 144hz+ and TN is the only way to get an acceptable amount of motion blur. Even with this 144hz gsync TN I still notice the blurring when I look around, I can't imagine what an IPS screen would...

Dell S2716DG LCD 1440p TN with G-sync $449.99 at Best Buy

Welp, I just bit on two of these. One for myself, which I'm using now and must say I'm impressed so far, and one for my wife. Just built her a dual purposed home-office/gaming PC w/GTX 970 so the GSync should help when that framerate goes a bit low at 1440p. Getting this crap out of the way...

Dell S2716DG LCD 1440p TN with G-sync $449.99 at Best Buy

Damn they have one at $399 open box at the store close to me... Pretty much the perfect panel (for me) but I don't really want to buy any more PC parts, lol. Damnit.

Supermicro X9SRI (LGA 2011) for $125 at Ebay - DEAL DEAD

Awesome, thanks for the clarification. In that case I think I'm going to order a new HSF now since this thing does start cranking when my media server needs to start transcoding :).

Supermicro X9SRI (LGA 2011) for $125 at Ebay - DEAL DEAD

I haven't checked too much into it but I think I remember something about these boards needing a narrower than normal HSF. Not sure if that's accurate or not, though.

Supermicro X9SRI (LGA 2011) for $125 at Ebay - DEAL DEAD

Nice! I will probably replace the HSF sooner than later but mine is really quiet under my conditions so far. Of course, I'm just installing my VMs and setting stuff up, but it might be okay. Doesn't even get very loud when I benchmark and show 100% utilization. Don't get me wrong, the fan is...

Supermicro X9SRI (LGA 2011) for $125 at Ebay - DEAL DEAD

I received my CPU yesterday and got it all together last night. Booted up for me and installed Windows successfully. I'd take a look at jumpers on that mobo, not that mine needed to be changed, but double check. Re-seat CPU? Using 24 pin ATX and 8 pin CPU power? You should definitely get...

Supermicro X9SRI (LGA 2011) for $125 at Ebay - DEAL DEAD

Depends on the application. For gaming I would imagine the higher clockspeed of the 6700k would be more beneficial. However, the Xeon has more cores and higher passmark score overall, so heavily multithreaded applications or running many VMs, for example, should be better on the Xeon.

Supermicro X9SRI (LGA 2011) for $125 at Ebay - DEAL DEAD

I bought the other $30 2665 - seller is slow as hell (but I was expecting that). Just got my "shipped" notification today, but no tracking. Will update once I actually get that CPU to let you know if my mobo works.

Supermicro X9SRI (LGA 2011) for $125 at Ebay - DEAL DEAD

Yeah I'll see how it goes, if it doesn't work I'll get my money back but for the price of this board I really don't want to end up with a non-functional board. Also I wouldn't say they aren't being helpful, I don't even know if it is non-functional yet.

Supermicro X9SRI (LGA 2011) for $125 at Ebay - DEAL DEAD

Got mine yesterday and it had ~5 slightly bent pins. Probably not an issue, but I don't have the CPU yet to test. I was able to bend them back every so gently and they look pretty much in line now, just waiting for my CPU to come in to know for sure. The seller did respond to a message from...

Supermicro X9SRI (LGA 2011) for $125 at Ebay - DEAL DEAD

I ended up going with this motherboard, four of the 4gb RAM modules listed in the OP, and the following E5-2665 CPU: Intel Xeon E5-2665 SR0L1 8 Core 2.4GHz LGA 2011 Processor CPU [XN] *km About $175 for all that, I'll take it! May be taking a risk on the CPU, I'm not sure, just seems like a...

Damn, seems pretty good to me. I just bit on it, thanks for the heads-up! Been looking for something with 8000+ passmark for somewhere around $200 and this is $220 shipped with 16gb of RAM... at ~12000 passmark! Gonna be a sweet Plex server :)

Why does my 60hz monitor look smoother then my 90hz overclocked monitor?

Just to back it up once more, althenian200 is totally in the wrong here. 120hz+ is absolutely wonderful and very, very noticeable (versus 60hz) to everyone I've ever demo'd for by simply dragging a window around a screen in 60hz vs 120hz mode. Psh.

Sandisk Ultra II 960 GB Internal SSD $194.10 Shipped

I've been using the 960gb Ultra II for ~6 months now and I'm loving it, no issues at all. To be fair, it is my first SSD but I have absolutely no complaints and I doubt that in normal, every day use I would see much of a difference between this and any other SSD. Works great as my one and only...

Dyson Refurb Fans are Back at Amazon.

I'd imagine the hair would mostly get stuck in the small intake grilles/vents on these. There is a motor in the base of these which sucks air through many small openings around the base, so you probably just need to clear the vents when they get clogged or risk losing efficiency.

    Rift vs Vive

I ended up keeping my Vive for now and my Rift is on eBay, solely due to room scale and motion controllers right now. I will say that the Vive could use some improvements in comfort and the Rift's built-in headphones look sooo convenient. But, the Rift makes me use an XBox controller and no...

    HTC Vive Owners Thread

I don't think its too heavy. As long as the straps are adjusted properly then the bulk of the weight is spread out on your head, front to back. It is slightly front-heavy, as expected, but it doesn't bother me. This is coming from someone with a Rift pre-order as well (hopefully being...

    HTC Vive Owners Thread

Got mine setup and tried it for a couple hours last night. Pretty amazing stuff. My big complaint is something I knew could be an issue (and one, possibly small, reason to go with the Rift) - putting earbuds on after the headset is on. It sounds like it would be so simple, but you need to...

    Rift vs Vive

While the Rift, in fact, does have a slightly smaller FOV compared to the Vive, it isn't quite as big of a difference as that image would lead you to believe. Bottom line, though, is that if the FOV is a huge factor for you then the Vive slightly edges out the Rift. BTW I received my Vive...

    HTC Vive Review

My Vive is out for delivery right now, but I'm STILL undecided on Vive vs. Rift. I might just throw this thing up on eBay and bank until I actually make a decision. Based on feedback on processing of orders for the Rift, mine will probably ship today or tomorrow (10:05:30 order). I could also...

$120 device that boosts your TV's audio

Sounds like (hah) it reduces the range, rather than simply boosting the volume. So, loud explosions are a little quieter compared to dialogue that's happening at the same time. It may also boost the volume a bit, but I would wager it does a little processing of the signal to compress...

    Oculus Rift CV1 Teardown

I didn't think the ifixit article showed a lack of quality at all. Also, regarding the FOV, the actual perceived overall FOV is apparently so close between the Rift CV1 and Vive CV1 that it should be considered a non-issue (according to the guys from Tested). Personally, I'm sure the FOV will...

    Oculus Rift CV1 Teardown

I'm curious what about the Rift makes you feel like it is low quality "bottom of the barrel" stuff. I'm on the fence about whether I will keep my Rift or Vive, still haven't decided. One major factor for me was that the Rift seems engineered very well while the Vive seems a bit more raw in...

Physical device that reads ethernet speed within a network

You would see the speed, not necessarily the throughput. That's the question here... are we looking for a device that will test actual throughput (which is a better real-world test of performance and would require actual traffic going over the interface and physical medium) or just a current...

[H] Poll: Which HMD did you order?

Have the GearVR + S7 and have a Rift and Vive on the way (first batch for each). Have a feeling I'll be selling the Vive since it sounds like the Rift will win with ergonomics and image quality. I'm really worried about the clarity/sharpness aspect of these first gen HMDs so I'm probably going...
