I think they are technically the same (using zol) but the zetavault license is considerably cheaper than quantaStor (especially if you require HA like we do).
I did not expect this hailstorm.
On-Topic: It looks like not so many have tried zetavault (no one :)). I will give it a try when our new supermicro server is ready to see how it performs against an ordinary OmniOS build (and maybe others if i find other alternatives in our price range)
Ouch, does not sound like a good start or attitude towards potential customers!
Thanks for your reply. All suggestions are welcome!

Looking to do a new SAN build and want to have the possibility for some more support than when using ordinary OmniOS. The SAN will host 30+ VMs.
Have anyone tried zetaVault (http://www.zeta.systems/zetavault/intro/)?
Their price is quite good, they are vmware and citrix verifier and they offer...
I have been scratching my head for the last 8 hours when benchmarking our storage performance from our xenservers and VMs running on them.
The xenserver uses NFS for storage SR to a ZFS OmniOS machine with 32GB RAM and 8x Crucial M500 SSDs in a raid-z2 configuration.
The connection is 1...
Hi Gea. Have not seen you in a while :)
Consumer SSDs even the faster ones are not a good choice for a ZIL.
I can agree on that. The Samsung 512GB Pro disk really is one of those 'bad choices'.
Will see if we will invest in 2xS3700 or begin with one S3500 (just to see if it makes any...
Well nothing out of the ordinary i think.
The Pool,
pool: ssdPoolOne
state: ONLINE
scan: none requested
config:
NAME STATE READ WRITE CKSUM CAP Product
ssdPoolOne ONLINE 0 0 0
raidz2-0 ONLINE...
Complicated might be an understatement :)
I have to think about the S3700 alternative. I still feel its weird that the samsung drive performs so bad. Would be a waste of money to buy the intel and get the same "bad" results.
I tried setting wsize, rsize on the nfs mount to 8K,32K,64K from the...
I read that document a while ago :) Some really good info in it. But how is it possible that the samsung drive gives so bad performance when the 4K write latency between the samsung and crucial drives are almost identical?

Hello!
Our setup.
OmniOS 8x Crucial 960GB SSD (15% OP). Gigabit network (soon 10gbe). 8 disks in raid-z2 shared via NFS. I expected us to saturate the 1gbit link but we are not :)
A windows vm on xenserver with crystaldisk gives this.

So i have spent the better part of the day trying to mount a esxi datastore over NFS hosted by solaris 11. I cannot figure out what is causing this issue.
The solaris 11 box has a zfs volume /tank/vms. It is shared using the following commands:
zfs set share.nfs=on tank/vms
zfs set...
I am settings up my home lab and I am looking on advice on where and how to do my datastore for my VMs. Im going to buy two SSDs (250 or 500 GB) to use in a raid1 setup for datastore. For now i am going to use two 500GB 7200RPM Samsung hard drives.
My hardware:
C6100 (8x Xeon L5520, 96 GB...
I disagree :), since i cant use it in my raid-z pool without the pool getting degraded i consider myself forced to replace it. It might still be "good enough" to use for some more non-vital data or in one of my windows boxes. However my retailer has it now so i will just wait and see what they...
Hi!
So I thought this would be a standard hard drive replacement after ZFS reported degraded too many errors on one of my drives in a RAID-Z array. I first did a scrub on the pool but it did not help.
The drive is a SEAGATE BARRACUDA GREEN 2TB 5900RPM SATA/600 64MB and is a replacement...
How does that work? If I check the adapter speed on the solaris box it says 1 Gbit/s. Can I somehow get above that?
When i used the VMXNET3 adapter an iperf test resultet in ~2.3Gbit/s. When using the e1000 i only get 1 Gbit/s with iperf.
Might this be because the VMXNET supported jumbo frames...
Good to hear that I’m not the only one experiencing problems :) !
Are you using another way to get better network performance out of the solaris host? Maybe Link aggregation?
I feel that one E1000 adapter can’t deliver the speed I want :(

You might want to get the 900-series chipset to get IOMMU, if this works with older Phenom or only newer bulldozer I do not know at the moment :)
Hello
Im experiencing some weird problems with my Solaris express 11 and the VMXNET3 adapter after upgrading to ESXi 5.0. The box is an all-in-one esxi/zfs.
I get these weird outputs in the console all the time:

At first I...
Crap, there goes my esxi/zfs all-in-one box. Having 1 socket with a quad core and 12 GB ram. The 8 GB limit is really useless, im going to check out xenserver and see if I can move all my vms to that instead.
I have the media on a server 5 miles from where I will be staying during the summer, I used openvpn to vpn in and watch (using CIFS/samba) but the performance was terrible.
The media server is an all in one ESXi/ZFS box. I will check the WMP12 streaming, did not know it had that feature...
Hello
I´m searching for a media server software which allows me to watch my entire media collections (mostly 720/1080p .mkv movies) over the internet. I have 100/100 broadband so that should not be an issue.
I have looked into Orb and TVersity but I feel that both these software’s are...
So I tested how a zpool with ashift=9 performed versus a zpool with ashift=12.
The drives used where the Seagate Barracuda green 2TB 5900RPM SATA3 64MB (ST2000DL003). These drives are 4kb drives but uses a SmartAlign technology for handling it, I havent been able to find any info on how it...
I got my M1015 today, works great under both Esxi and windows.
The problem: How do I update the firmware?
I found the newest on IBMs website (http://www-947.ibm.com/support/entry/portal/docdisplay?lndocid=MIGR-5082826)
But since I don’t have a dell server I get “Package and System...
I recall something similar.

You don't happen to know where you read this so I can check it out :)?
When running a 4 disk RAIDZ1 (with 4kb disks) do you merely lose some performance or do you get weird stability/compatibility issues?
Hello again!
I have searched far and wide but have not really gotten my questions answered.
Two part question.
1) Does the Seagate drives (ex ST2000DL003) SmartAlign function correctly align the 4k sectors when using ZFS or do I still need to align them manually?
On forums the answer...
Hi!
Bought and M1015 recently but I’m having a hard time finding a correct SFF-8087 cable to be able to plug in SATA drives to the card.
This is the cable I found that is a “forward” type and cost less then a fortune, but will it work...
Hi!
I asked about the RDM performance vs native and RDM is slooooow. Check this post by _Gea

I built an AMD whitebox myself some time ago. Intel wasn't an option since the only chipset that support ECC memory and run with i5/i7 is the 3450 chipset (if I'm not mistaken). AMD has ECC support on a wide range of chipsets.
http://communities.intel.com/thread/12334
If you are going for AMD and building a whitebox you might want to wait for the 900-family chipset. All 900 chipset have IOMMU support opposite to the 890FX which is the only 800-family chipset that have IOMMU and few motherboard manufactures support it in their BIOS...
