I had the same concern about VRM cooling with the Shaman and installed a Thermalright VRM G2 along with it. It does however increase the overall cost and required space inside the case.
Looks nice, but I would suggest rotating the TY-140 fan on the Shaman 90 degrees around the fan axis: less chance of the fan touching the case side panel this way.
Clearly, static pressure is a function of a distance from the fan. AP181 produces mediocre static pressure at L=0, but due to the grille shape it drops off much slower and results in still decent static pressure at L=50cm, which makes it a great case intake fan. However, the requirements for rad...
Both the Shaman and the AXP have sub-optimal heat pipe orientation according to Silverstone. Nevertheless, there's a lot of happy owners of these coolers who see no or slight decrease in cooling efficiency compared to using these coolers horizontally. However, there has been some negative...
If using up 4 slots doesn't bother you, use an aftermarket cooler like a Thermalright Shaman or Arctic Cooling Xtreme Plus (AXP) on a reference GTX580 or buy a card with a pre-installed cooler based on the AXP. Both are very efficient and extremely quiet.
That's exactly right, about 30 mins to get to 90-95% of the max brightness and another 30 mins for the CCFLs to warm up to 100%. Wouldn't calibrate it before then.
Don't accept no for an answer from Newegg. Do the web chat, insist that you haven't abused their return policy in the past, that you've spent a lot of money on their site, that you've consulted the manufacturer and they agree the item is defective (obtaining a case ID or at least direct contact...
Archon beats H80 in thermal performance and is much quieter.

Archon cools marginally worse than H100, but is again much quieter.

165mm should be fine, I've got a Thermalright Silver Arrow that is 163mm, and it's barely touching the foam with the heat pipe tips. If you get a windowed FT02, you'll have even more room. 170mm coolers like the Archon is where you get into trouble with windowless FT02, but they still fit into...
I removed the fan grille on the AX850 to make the PSU flush with the rear dust filter. (Used it to replace the shiny grille on the exhaust 120mm fan on top of the case.) I have the PSU mounting screws tightened all the way. Also, it's a good idea to tape up the area of the rear dust filter not...
What is this RMA hell everybody keeps talking about. Dell cross-ships replacements; at some point I had three U3011s standing one behind another on my desk. Ended up with a fairly uniform A02 panel with minimal light bleeding and no color tinge. Keep trying until you're happy.
If you're hooking up AP181's to a fan controller, you should keep the switches on the high setting. What's the purpose of removing the switches from the top panel? You'll just have to find another place inside the case to hide them.
This has been discussed earlier in this thread and in separate threads. Some have Shamans and AXPs that don't seem to be affected by the case orientation (I'm one of them), others get much poorer results. Wick quality differing batch to batch could be the culprit. I would just buy either of the...
SA/Archon/D-14 are all pretty close in cooling efficiency and noise, there's a lot of builds in this thread with all three in this thread. If you get a windowless FT02, Archon probably will be too tall to fit, but should just barely fit if you have the side window. SA fans would have to be in...
I wouldn't use an ICC profile from a different monitor, especially not from TFT Central. They don't correct for the fact that U3011 uses wide gamut CCFLs. You can always get a colorimeter or a cheaper spectrophotometer on Amazon to make your own ICC profiles. If the price is too much and you...
All their prices are negotiable. I got extra $75 off the 25% off sale price just by asking for it. Others had success getting the sale price when there was no sale at all. Dell's order support and sales are pretty bad (outsourced to India), so it helps to call more than once, ask to speak to a...
The HDD is horizontal because it's a lot harder to suspend it in a vertical position. There's really nothing above the HDD that the fan should be cooling anyway.
When applied to the inside of empty 5.25" bays, extra acoustic foam helps with the sound coming from the gaps around the face plates.

That's before most of the mods though.
I carry it without the top cover by holding at the front bottom edge and the back top edge (where the "handle" for cables is).
My small mods for aesthetics and silence:
- Silverstone black PCI slot covers.
- Black metal fan grill for the exhaust fan (I used the one that came with Corsair AX850 PSU).
- Sleeved all unsleeved cables, improved cable management with wire ties and wire harnesses.
- USB 3.0 front panel kit...
