When you say stutter or stop, is is streaming content from your parents internet through playon to your PS3? Or is it content local on your machine?
If its content on the internet, I would hazard either (or some combination of):
1) your parents internet connection isn't fast enough
2) the...
I had a similar problem a while back when trying to stream HD quality films from my server on my G wireless network. They would pause, drop out, etc, just not enough bandwidth given the varying signal in rooms. I was able to remedy it by converting a portion of my network over to 802.11n.
Untangle 8.0 64 Bit
Foxconn R20-D2 Intel Atom D510 Intel NM10 Intel GMA 3150 Barebone
PQI POWER Series 2GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Desktop Memory Model MAD42GUOE
Intel Pro/1000 MT Dual Port Server Adapter Gigabit NIC
250GB Sata disk I had laying around
My ideal state isn't too far away from my current state other than I don't have a patch panel and I'm stuck with using wireless when I should be using wired, this is mostly for HD streaming to my PS3.
It would look like this:
Internet -> Untangle ->
Gigabit Switch ( I bought an inexpensive...
That's what I did, the WRT54G serves as my access point now for my 802.11g network. Its an old piece of hardware, I've had it now I believe 4 years and will continue to use until I find a good G\N device for my new untangle box. Then it'll go to my parents.
Earlier It was around 60 with 0% cpu utilization and a load average of .16. The Atom D510 registers as having 4 processors so a load average of 4 would have a thread ready for each processor, if I'm reading it correctly.
Right now I'm trying to bring the box to its knees with multiple...
Good to note that 32 bit is faster with less mem, I primarily got the 64 bit version due to the fact the Atom D510 was 64 bit. I've been checking processor usage on the box since I installed it, the most I've seen was 4% and that was with a torrent being active on one of my machines.
I got the parts in today and setup the router. Some notes for anyone building a similar box
1) I got the latest 64 bit iso for untangle from here
2) For some odd reason the Foxconn R20-D2 power supply was set to 220, I flipped to over to 115
3) The hardest part of the install was getting the...
Gotcha, when I get my untangle box up I won't use OpenDNS with it. In the meanwhile, I've got both OpenDNS and MS Family safety running concurrently. Interestingly, it took almost 30 minutes before OpenDNS started content filtering even after changing the DNS entries on the router and...
Ordered, total came out to be 185 dollars, amazing. Now the hard part comes with waiting.
With DD-WRT I will make my Linksys an access point and see how well it works just for handling 802.11G traffic.
As of late, I've been pretty unsatisfied with my WRT54GV6 with DD-WRT. It just can't handle the amount of traffic that my network generates now. I was considering building an Untangle or pfsense box and wanted to know if anyone has gone through it with the hardware I'm considering...
Hey Ryan_975, I'm in a similar situation as you and did the following.
1) Give the admin account on your kid's PC a password that only adults know
2) Go to http://explore.live.com/windows-live-family-safety?os=other and download and install Windows Family Safety.
3) Once installed, create...
